Conrad’s latest restoration, a 1947 Monarch Coupe A few years ago to be exact, my Dad bought the first Monarch to come out to our hamlet. It was November 8 1946 and the car was a four door sedan, pear green and Dad paid all of $1,950.00 for it. The next car to come to our hamlet was a 1947 Coupe purchased by a farmer known as Frank Card. I loved it when I first saw it in its nice dark blue paint job. I thought I would like one like it one day. A lot of years later I heard of one owned by a Mr. Stevenson in Brooklyn. A nice maroon colour but too rich for my blood but in 2010 my friend Mr. Dan Davis who had bought my 1947 Monarch Sedan which I had restored, telephoned me to see if I would go and look at a Monarch coupe with him. It was in the Millbrook area and owned by a Mr. Barry Head for over 25 years, but never got around to restoring it. Because of moving to Newcastle along with having some health problems, he had decided to sell it. We went to see the car but Dan on his way home said to me “I have decided to pass on the car.” So when I got home I called Barry and we made a deal where I would buy it. It was pretty well in need of a complete restoration. I brought it home in the spring and started in August to restore it, wow what a job. The rad, engine and transmission were done and painted. Then I found the second gear did not work so well. Tires are wide whites in good condition. I replaced the gas tank with a new one that I picked up at spring Carlisle when I saw the one in p.3 it was wrong. Then I overhauled the generator, starter, new brakes, cylinders, drums and brake lines. Body work had been started and it had to be reworked, straightened, sanded and primed, red primer. I took the car to Watts & Sunderland Body Shop to be painted in December 2012. They gave it a coat of grey primer and finished it in “Candy Apple Red” acrylic enamel. Dash and interior painting was done by me after the exterior was done. Then I buffed all of the stainless, rebuilt the grill and the bumpers had been re-chromed however the bolts had been tightened too hard and cracked around the bolts. The interior panels and seats have been recovered in maroon vinyl with a diamond pattern and I installed it the way I received them. The original was a cloth material however the new vinyl looks okay as is and goes well with the candy apple red exterior and the new carpet on the floor.

Volume 1 No. 5 The Official Monthly Publication of the Ford & Mercury Restorer’s Club of America May 2005 Feature Vehicle of the Month: April 30 Garage Crawl a Super Event! 1927 Ford Model T n April 30th the FMRCOA members were treated to an “An Animal’s Best Friend” Oexceptional garage crawl organized by Mike Fontana. About 60 club members participated in the event that started at Jack Krompatic’s house in Farmington Hills where we had coffee and donuts and viewed the vehicles in his garages. The state of Jack’s “project” garage where he currently was working on an old Merc made me feel right L to R: Phil Lyon, George Patrick, at home! Jack’s collection includes Jack Krompatic, and Ed Goff several early 50’s Fords! Next we motored to Alex Atard’s House in Farmington Hills. Alex’s collection of cars and other antiques and collectibles is amazing! He began his car collection in 1958 and has over 50 cars mostly from the late teens into the 20’s. Some of these cars have been restored, but a majority are sitting outside in Owned by the open in their “original” state. Roger Hodyka There was a certain “charm” and eeriness about the way these rare automobiles sat there – almost aurel and Hardy made me buy my first Model T. I love T’s waiting to be brought back to life Lbecause they are so mechanically simple. It’s so simple that three again! monkeys and a small child could take one apart and reassemble it In the mid-eighties Alex began Some of Alex Atard’s Cars! again.

  • Collection of Misfits
Volume 18 Issue 1 January 1, 2018 Collection of Misfits Richard Koop — What was he thinking! I started collecting cars in October 1980 and my first purchase was a ‘56 Mark II. I was fortunate enough to find a DSO (Dealer Special Order) car that had a unique all leather one- color roof liner, door panels and seats. It was originally ordered by a farmer and his wife in Iowa thru the Stivers Lincoln dealership in Des Moines, Iowa. The wife wanted a special color red leather to match the lipstick she used. Because of the special treatment, Lincoln wanted to show their affluent customers (Think Black Label Program-not Hormel bacon- today) they would do these special requests. A tube of lipstick was sent to Ford, and the Welcome to the leathers (Bridge of Weir) were dyed to match the lipstick. I remember taking the MK II to a Northstar News, the meet in Delroy, Ohio not much after I bought the car. I was trying to learn all I could about monthly publication of these cars and I met Jim Roll; who was probably one of the most knowledgeable leather and the Northstar Region upholstery guys I have ever met. He stopped by and asked what my plans were for the leather interior. It was showing some fading and a few minor cracks in the leather so I said I would of the Lincoln and probably re-dye and replace some of the leather sections. He looked at me and said …. Well, Continental Owners what he said I shouldn’t repeat, but he “expressed” displeasure with my plans.
