A: No, it is okay to pick and choose the activities in which you wish to participate. Other than the drive tour packages, it’s all inclusive for meal and said activities. Q: How do I participate in the events I have registered for? A: Printed event tickets will be used for most activities; they will be in your meet registration packet. Wristbands will be used for Thursday and Friday’s driving tours. Q: Do I have to register to participate in Saturday’s car show with my Lincoln? A: Yes, you must register yourself and any Lincolns you plan to show or have judged. Q: Do I need to have a fire extinguisher with my Lincoln on the show field? A: Yes, a fire extinguisher is required and must be placed by the front left tire when on show field. Q: Do I have to register if I only want to walk in and view the cars on Saturday? A: No, registration is not necessary if you only plan to walk in and view the cars. Q: Can I park my trailer at the hotel? A: Yes, the hotel has a large parking area. Q: Can I wash my car at the hotel? A: Yes, a hose and bucket will be available at the host hotel for car washing. Please bring your own supplies. Q: What is my LCOC membership number and expiration date? A: Your LCOC membership number and expiration date is above your name on the address information on the back page of Continental Comments magazine. Q: Can I register online? A: Yes, you can register online by following these steps: 1.) Complete the registration form by clicking in the cells next to each required field and typing your entries. Do not “sign” the form until it is complete and checked for errors – Once signed it cannot be edited! 2.) After you have signed the form, save the file on your computer using “Save As” and include your name in the file name 3.) Review the saved file to ensure all data has transferred correctly 4.) Attach the file to an e-mail and send it to jacob dout [email protected] 5.) Send a check for the amount total on your registration form to George Malesich, Meet Registration, 8056 W. 78th Circle Arvada, CO 80005 303-909-2853 6.) Checks must be made out to “RMR LCOC.” Q: Can I submit my registration by mail? A: Yes, you can download the Registration Package and print and mail a completed copy with check.     Volume 18 Issue 1 January 1, 2018 Collection of Misfits Richard Koop — What was he thinking! I started collecting cars in October 1980 and my first purchase was a ‘56 Mark II. I was fortunate enough to find a DSO (Dealer Special Order) car that had a unique all leather one- color roof liner, door panels and seats. It was originally ordered by a farmer and his wife in Iowa thru the Stivers Lincoln dealership in Des Moines, Iowa. The wife wanted a special color red leather to match the lipstick she used. Because of the special treatment, Lincoln wanted to show their affluent customers (Think Black Label Program-not Hormel bacon- today) they would do these special requests. A tube of lipstick was sent to Ford, and the Welcome to the leathers (Bridge of Weir) were dyed to match the lipstick. I remember taking the MK II to a Northstar News, the meet in Delroy, Ohio not much after I bought the car. I was trying to learn all I could about monthly publication of these cars and I met Jim Roll; who was probably one of the most knowledgeable leather and the Northstar Region upholstery guys I have ever met. He stopped by and asked what my plans were for the leather interior. It was showing some fading and a few minor cracks in the leather so I said I would of the Lincoln and probably re-dye and replace some of the leather sections. He looked at me and said …. Well, Continental Owners what he said I shouldn’t repeat, but he “expressed” displeasure with my plans.

West of the Lake Region Director, Fred Butalla, surprised the movie industry, movie fans and, pretty much everybody in the world by winning this year’s Oscar for Best Director. Interviewed after the ceremony, Butalla said “I don’t even watch movies. I have no idea why I am here.” A puzzled Butalla offered a possible explanation for the mix-up: “I was on the CLC website applying for the Director of the year award. The host hotel was the Concord Hilton, which offered excellent service and a shady parking area for the Saturday show. The 100 degree tem- peratures which plagued much of California for months held off for our show days and the skyrocketing price of gas did not come until the week after our event. On the Wednesday before the show, our Lincoln limo overflowed with merry wine connoisseurs being chauf- feured to three outstanding Napa 2012 Western National Meet Valley wineries.
