What clues do the documents provide about life in East and West Germany, Cold War economic systems, and current economic issues? Use the documents to evaluate the outcomes associated with command and free market economies. Your response should include... ● A clear, well-stated claim/argument in response to the prompt. ● At least two well-developed body paragraphs in support of your claim. ● Analysis of at least seven documents to support your argument. West: Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) East: German Democratic Republic (GDR) 1 Document 1: “How German cars beat British motors - and kept going.” BBC August, 2013 In August 1945 the British Army sent a major called Ivan Hirst to take control of the giant Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg, which had been built under the Nazis to produce 'people's cars' for the German masses. Ignoring his sceptical superiors, Hirst could see the potential amid the shattered debris of the Wolfsburg factory. Rebuilding Volkswagen, he thought, would be a step towards rehabilitating Germany as a prosperous, peaceful European ally.

However, the season has started November 6th - Annual Meeting and we’ve had some fun. The one day event during PNR Contact: Frank Daly which we coordinated with the Horseless Carriage Club of American and had breakfast in Puyallup and December 8th - Holiday Party then journeyed to the LeMay collection at Marymount was picture perfect and a lot of fun (see story on page PNR Contact: Frank Daly 14.) If you think that you’ve ‘been to’ the LeMay family collection and you’ve been there, done that, think again.

DSM became a result of the lasting past relationship between Mitsubishi and Chrysler that dated back to 1970 when Mitsubishi was able to sell their first products in the United States through Chrysler. DSM became a 50/50 joint venture between both companies, splitting both investment and profits equally. The facility was described as representing the best in Japanese and American plant technology to help produce high class automobiles. DSM also helped provide almost three thousand jobs in production and management Potential employees had to compelte a three month training program before beginning work. Mitsubishi and Chrysler choose Bloomington-Normal area due to the to multiple interstate highways and along with easy access to railroads and air transport. DSM started to produce three new kinds of vehicles: the Mitsubishi Eclipse, the Plymouth Laser, and the Eagle Talon during its first few years and the 100,000th car rolled off the line on January 22, 1990. In 1991, Mitsubishi took sole ownership of the plant by purchasing Chrysler’s interest. By 1995, Mitsubishi had renamed DSM to Mitsubishi Motors Manufacturing of America (MMMA) reflecting Mitsubishi's total ownership.

Volume 1 No. 5 The Official Monthly Publication of the Ford & Mercury Restorer’s Club of America May 2005 Feature Vehicle of the Month: April 30 Garage Crawl a Super Event! 1927 Ford Model T n April 30th the FMRCOA members were treated to an “An Animal’s Best Friend” Oexceptional garage crawl organized by Mike Fontana. About 60 club members participated in the event that started at Jack Krompatic’s house in Farmington Hills where we had coffee and donuts and viewed the vehicles in his garages. The state of Jack’s “project” garage where he currently was working on an old Merc made me feel right L to R: Phil Lyon, George Patrick, at home! Jack’s collection includes Jack Krompatic, and Ed Goff several early 50’s Fords! Next we motored to Alex Atard’s House in Farmington Hills. Alex’s collection of cars and other antiques and collectibles is amazing! He began his car collection in 1958 and has over 50 cars mostly from the late teens into the 20’s. Some of these cars have been restored, but a majority are sitting outside in Owned by the open in their “original” state. Roger Hodyka There was a certain “charm” and eeriness about the way these rare automobiles sat there – almost aurel and Hardy made me buy my first Model T. I love T’s waiting to be brought back to life Lbecause they are so mechanically simple. It’s so simple that three again! monkeys and a small child could take one apart and reassemble it In the mid-eighties Alex began Some of Alex Atard’s Cars! again.
