Nacionalni rad Sr- ba odvijao se preko kulturnih i privrednih dru{tava. Prosvetno-privredno dru{tvo Srpska Zora osnovano je 1901. godine u Kninu. Podsticalo je osniva- we zemqoradni~kih zadruga po selima i {tedionica po gradovima. Na inici- jativu Srpske Zore osnovan je 1905. godine Savez srpskih privrednih zadruga na Primorju. Glavna aktivnost Srpske Zore bila je ja~awe srpske inteligen- cije putem pomagawa siroma{nih u~enika. Pomagala je nov~ano rad srpskih peva~kih dru{tava na Primorju. Matica srpska u Dubrovniku osnovana je 1909. godine kao zadu`bina trgovca Konstantina Vu~kovi}a. Prva gimnasti- ~ka (vite{ka) dru{tva na Primorju osnovana su 1907. godine, Du{an Silni u Dubrovniku i Srpski soko u Risnu. Vite{ko vaspitawe bilo je istovremeno telesno, moralno i narodnosno vaspitawe. Srpska sokolska `upa na Primorju osnovana je 1911. godine u Herceg Novom. @upa je bila deo Saveza srpskog so- kolstva u Beogradu. Odr`ala je slet u Dubrovniku 1913. godine i slet 1914. u Kninu. Po objavi rata Srbiji 1914. godine zabrawena su sva srpska dru{tva. Primorski Srbi nastojali su da prebegnu i kao dobrovoqci stupe u vojske srpskih dr`ava. Srpska vojska u{la je u Dubrovnik 13. novembra 1918. Na dan ujediwewa, 1. decembra 1924. godine otkriven je spomenik kraqu Petru I. -
Yugoslavism and the Bulgarians in the Nineteenth Century the Idea

Yugoslavism and the Bulgarians in the Nineteenth Century The idea for the formation of a South Slav or Yugoslav Union, of a Balkan or an in Danubian Federation or Confederation, occupied important place the thinking and ' activity of a number of Bulgarian intellectuals and statesmen. Moreover, this idea was one of the aims toward which the organized Bulgarian national liberation movement strove. This essay endeavors to trace and to analyze the history of the Yugoslav Idea among the Bulgarians during the nineteenth century. The most important facts in the history of the interrelationships between the South Slavic peoples in the modern period relate to their efforts to preserve and develop their national consciousness and culture from assimilation, to free themselves from foreign domination, and to form independent states. It was in the process of the struggle for liberation that an awareness of the necessity for unity of the South Slavs arose and common practical steps were taken toward this end. By the beginning of the nineteenth century, foreign domination ahd time itself had, in great measure, obliterated the old ethnic enmities and rivalries which existed among the South Slavs during medieval times. The common fate and ordeal of these peoples for more than four hundred years contributed to the appearance of feelings of mutual sym- pathy and help among them. Until the end of the eighteenth century, the Bulgarian and Serbian peoples believed that liberation from the Ottomans could be achieved only with foreign help. At the same time we find the beginning of a number of attempts among them to unite in a common struggle for liberation.1 In the Serbian struggle for national liberation, not only Bulgarians living in Serbian lands but also a great number of volunteers from Bulgaria actively particpated in the struggle against the common enemy. -

The cinema, that “dream factory” takes over and employs countless mythical motifs – the fight between hero and monster, initiatory combats and ordeals, paradigmatic figures and images (the maiden, the hero, the paradisiacal landscape, hell and do on). Even reading includes a mythological function, only because it replaces the recitation of myths in archaic societies and the oral literature that still lives in the rural communities of Europe, but particularly because, through reading, the modern man succeeds in obtaining an ‘escape from time’ comparable to the ‘emergence from time’ effected by myths. -

Croatian Journal of Education Vol.18; Sp.Ed.No.2/2016, pages: 111-123 Original research paper Paper submitted: 23rd December 2015 Paper accepted: 26th July 2016 doi: 10.15516/cje.v18i0.2104 Yugoslav “Socialist Aestheticism” and the Emergence of Modern Children’s Poetry Jovan Ljuštanović Preschool Teacher Training College in Novi Sad Abstract The paper deals with the ideologically conditioned changes of cultural politics in socialist Yugoslavia in the first decade after the Second World War (1945-1955) and their influences on children’s poetry. The sudden shift from party-controlled socialist realism towards freedom of (also ideologically established) scientific and artistic creativity has resulted in the artistic and ideological phenomenon that certain literary historians call socialist aesthetics. The paper will attempt to prove that the expression of this kind of aestheticism in children’s literature is modern poetry for children. Ideas of creative freedom and general social modernism were reflected in the educational politics and social welfare of children and youth. All this is expressed in poetry that gives priority to play, primarily language play, humor, and imagination over direct pedagogical function. Such poetry has its roots in folk and European literary tradition, welcoming children’s wishes and fears. It is emancipatory and simultaneously detached from many aspects of the reality of children’s lives and children’s status in society. Such poetry emerged in various ways and within various national cultures of the former socialist Yugoslavia, at the same time realizing similar, and in many ways, comparative aesthetic and social effects. Kosovo Myths: Karadžić, Njegoš, and the Transformation of Serb Memory ALEXANDER GREENAWALT e legend of Serbia’s defeat by invading Ottoman forces at the medieval battle of Kosovo on June , has long occupied a special place in Serbian natio- nal memory. Overcoming historical details that assign the event a more limited significance, the battle has come to symbolize a national death: the cataclys- mic end to the once glorious medieval Serbian state and the beginning of the -year-long Ottoman occupation, a time typically characterized both as an enslavement and as a deep national sleep. But the story also has a generative side. As Alex Dragnich and Slavko Todorovich explain in their popular history of the Kosovo region, “Kosovo is a grave and a grave means death and dust, but it also means rebirth and a source of new life” (). In the traditional account, memories of Kosovo cemented a collective Serb identity throughout the Otto- man centuries, as the Serb people kept their national spirit alive through the support of the Orthodox Church and the practice of orally transmitted epic song. In this way, Kosovo memory became an organizing principle, an inspira- tional link to medieval statehood that guided the Serbs through unimaginable hardships until, finally, in the course of the nineteenth century, they threw off the Ottoman shackles, and channeled national memory into a modern nation- state. At the heart of this national memory stands a highly mythologized account of the battle itself. Drawing on the two historical facts that are known with some certainty – that both the Serbian Prince Lazar and the Ottoman Sultan Murad were killed at the battle – the Kosovo narrative has evolved into a in- tricate morality play highlighting themes of martyrdom, treachery, and heroic self-sacrifice, and supplying a central symbolic source for modern Serb identity. -
