Dear Parishioners,

Today is the fourth Sunday of Easter, which we traditionally call Good Shepherd Sunday. The essential question for this Sunday is: Whose voice do we listen to?

Hearing the Shepherd’s voice, we are called to recognize His voice and listen to His Word. His Word is His Son and we are called to acknowledge His presence in our lives, and acting upon the Word in our day- to-day activity.

With the clamor of false voices and seductive distractions there is the possibility that we can be overwhelmed. With the media bombardment and the social network that offers so much “advice” we can easily be confused and distracted. Who do we listen to? To listen to the voice of the Shepherd takes effort and time. We have to first rid ourselves of distraction. Which means turn off the TV and shut down the computer and all of our phones.

We have to listen carefully to be lead to the Father. Our faith reminds us that nothing can take us away from God. Without fear, we need to be able to shut down all that distracts us from Him. We cannot be taken from the hand of God. Today’s readings remind us that if we remove ourselves from His hand, he will search us out and invite us back in. Safe in that knowledge, those who hear His voice are called to faithfully follow where He leads us to.

Next week we will be having a member of the Catholic Ministry Appeal office speak after all our Masses to offer a refection on the value of the CMA and the great work the Diocese is able to do because of it. Information on the CMA has been mailed home and next week information will be available in the pews. Thank you for your continued support of the CMA. Last years rebate helped greatly with the Confessional renovation project.

Information regarding the Parish Golf and Tennis Outing and Dinner Dance can be found in the Bulletin and in the vestibules of the Church. Even if you don’t golf or play tennis or attempt either, there are many ways you can help this important fundraiser. Please consider offering your support.

We say farewell, but not goodbye to Fr. Thomas Edamattam, and thank him for his nearly thirty years of support to our parish and our parish community serving as ever-faithful chaplain to Huntington Hospital, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the local Knights of Columbus Council, and “Faithful Friar” for Fourth Degree Knights in western Suffolk. We wish him well in his new residence.

Have a great week.

Msgr. Steven R Camp
