The 5th of October 2013, marks 25 years since our pioneering Sisters set foot on the soils of Kota Kina- balu, Sabah at the invitation of the then Rt Rev Bishop John Lee. Since that day, God’s blessings have been manifold as many lives have been touched by the Shepherd’s love. These lives include Good Shepherd Mission Partners who have served in the community and ministries of Pusat Kebajikan Good Shepherd, those who have volunteered and worked side by side with us, benefactors who stood by us through thick and thin, those who gave us encouragement and support and, the many children, youth, women, and families whom we reached out to and who have enabled us to realize the true meaning and purpose of our being Good Shepherd. For everything there is a season and a time and indeed this is a time to give thanks to God for 25 years of God’s faithful companionship with us in our service of the many hundreds of persons, and, for persons who have in one way or another been a part of the Good Shepherd story. This celebration is also a testimony of the generous giving, self-sacrifices and creative use of the talents and skills that have been pooled together by every Good Shepherd Mission Partner to make significant changes that are life-giving for the people that we serve. To all of you who have been part of this 25 year journey, Thank You! Critical issues such as a lack of basic rights of indigenous groups, migrant communities and those who experience marginalization and exclusion have challenged us and called us forth to make concrete responses and by working more consciously in rural and migrant communities. Even as these issues become more challenging each year, we are duty bound to continually review and upgrade our approaches so as to be relevant and effective in our services. As the saying goes, “We have to be the change we want to see.” Our own Good Shepherd founding story began with St Mary Euphrasia who saw each person as a wonder and work of art that when allowed and enabled to develop further is able to realize their God given dignity and potential. It is with a deep sense of joy that we look forward to the continued commitment and passion of all who choose to be a part of the Good Shepherd family; that you too emulate this belief of St Mary Euphrasia and ensure that every person we journey with is ministered to with care and respect. May all those we meet experience the healing presence of the compassionate heart of our Shepherd God. 3 PKGS part 1:Layout 1 9/10/13 7:55 PM Page 5 4 PKGS part 1:Layout 1 9/10/13 7:55 PM Page 6 “Our Zeal Must Embrace the Whole World.” Thank you for the wonderful support given to PKGS Sabah in the last 25 years.
