2 EXPERIENCE UNRELATED TO THE 2007 – 2011 Owner of a school offering Polish courses to foreigners (2007-2011) and Polish teacher of students at all levels of proficiency, also offering Business Polish and certified exam preparation. While doing this, I cooperated with the following firms: Accenture, Microsoft, Orange, Thomson, Cisco, Sprite, CASE – Center for Social and Economic Research and the French and German Embassies.

ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE ACQUIRED DURING INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS

• Cooperation with the University of Potsdam incorporating:

a. Five trips within the framework of the LLP Erasmus Program at the University of Potsdam. So far, these have taken place on: 17-24.06.12; 24.05.13-02.06.13; 13- 22.12.13; 13-22.06.14, 19-26.06.2017. During these trips, I led language workshop cycles, focusing on: literature, phraseology and cultural studies (conducted in English) for German-speaking Polish language students.

b. Participation in the Twin Project implemented by the University of Potsdam (represented by Dr. Małgorzata Majewska-Meyers) and the University of Warsaw (represented by Anna Rabczuk). The project involved conducting workshops and developing tools for introducing cultural components (Landeskunde) into lessons. As part of the project, I also led training sessions for Potsdam-based teachers on the application of multimedia techniques at A1 level. A workshop was conducted within the TOT Training Over Trainers framework. The project involved 6 sessions – three at the University of Warsaw (March and November 2013 and March 2014) and three at the University of Potsdam (June and December 2013 and June 2014).

c. Next session of methodological workshops dedicated to teachers and linguistic workshops for students is planned for June 2017.

• Cooperation with the Paris- incorporating:

a. Participation in a conference entitled Enseigner le polonais langue étrangère. Méthodes, contenus, pratiques, Université Paris-Sorbonne, where I delivered a paper entitled: „Mówić”… jak to łatwo powiedzieć! – techniki konwersacyjne w praktyce glottodydaktycznej, 13-14.06.13.

b. Co-organization of a second Polish-French conference at the University of Warsaw entitled: Czym kultura polska może dzisiaj uwieść frankofona? 29-30.05.14.

ORIGINAL RESEARCH I conducted research assisted by the moje-ankiety.pl online survey tool. This project was created to supplement the activities of the LabSEE Socio-Economic Laboratory. 311 foreigners from every continent (52 countries around the world) have taken part in the study. The study is devoted to foreigners’ perceptions of Polish language politeness. The results of this study and an analysis of them were included in my doctoral thesis The research results also helped me to put together the practical part of my thesis, which focuses on the teaching of Polish language politeness and may be regarded as a glottodidactic proposal directed at teachers of Polish working in other countries.

• Took part in the Warsaw Science Festival, giving workshops entitled: What do Foreigners Know about Poland, and What More Do They Need to Know? I gave an interview to Radio Poland for Foreign Listeners (Russia) on teaching the Polish language to foreigners. September 2013 and 2014.

• Initiated, organized and chaired the Glottodidactics Forum – an academic conference devoted to teaching Polish as a foreign language. The conference took place at the UW POLONICUM Centre, as part of the activities of the Cultural Glottodidactics Laboratory. Over 60 speakers from 9 countries took part in the Forum. The main outcome of the event was the publishing of an e-book, 24-25.03.12.

• Led workshops promoting knowledge about Poland, entitled Polish Culture for Beginners for European Union administration staff as part of a collaboration with the UW International Relations Office (April 2012), and also for teachers from Norwegian universities (November 2012) and students from Japan (April 2013, 2014, 2015).

• Cooperated with the STENTOR publishers, writing 15 tests assessing middle school pupils’ knowledge of Polish grammar and phraseology, which were posted on an online platform supplementing a series of textbooks for middle schools (grades 1-3). Jest tyle do powiedzenia.

• Participated in the European Day of Language project. Polish as a Foreign Language (phraseology workshops for foreigners); European Student Forum, AEGEE – 16-17.12.09, Warsaw.

• Led a series of regular workshops for foreigners at the Accenture firm entitled “Encounters with Polish Culture”, which were devoted to Polish culture, traditions and customs, as well as Polish cinema.

• Led a series of regular workshops on Polish cinema for foreigners at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik (2015-16).

HIGHER QUALIFICATIONS, CERTIFICATION • Took part in series of workshops about Academic English organized by The Graduate Centre for Academic Communication (GCAC) at University of Toronto (April 2017). • Took part in series of workshops for teachers at University of Toronto: Second Language Teaching & Learning Community (September 2016 – March 2017); • Took part in Toronto Laboratory Theatre’s Embodied English course for advanced learners (January - April 2017); • Took part in State Commission on the Certification of Levels of Proficiency for Polish Learned as a Foreign Language training sessions for authors of exam tasks (March – June 2012), which concluded with a practical exam, which I passed (December 2013); • Took part in training sessions devoted to the certification of levels of proficiency for Polish learned as a foreign language conducted by the University of Warsaw Foreign Language School and POLONICUM. Prepared certification tasks, verified tasks and edited examinations, as well as coordinating and assessing them (from 2009 to now). • Took part in vocal emission workshops (2008).

PRIZES AND COMMENDATIONS • In the 2006/2007 academic year, I received a grant from the Minister of Science and Higher Education for my academic achievements.

• In 2012, I was awarded the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Warsaw’s Prize for organizing the “Glottodidactics Forum” for young academics, which was based on a project I conceived myself in cooperation with the POLONICUM Center Cultural Glottodidactics Laboratory.

• In 2014, I was awarded the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Warsaw’s Individual Prize for organizing the “Czym kultura polska może uwieść frankofona?” international conference in cooperation with the Paris-Sorbonne University, designing the content for a poster promoting the JPJO Summer Course, editing the post-conference volume, carrying out my duties as a member of the Polonicum Quarterly editorial board in exemplary fashion and supporting this periodical by contributing my own articles.

• In 2016, I was nominated as a candidate for the European Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Social Sciences and Humanities, awarded by Central European University, Budapest Hungary

RESEARCH INTERESTS Glottodidactics, cultural glottodidactics, sociolinguistics, language politeness, Polish slang, the “foreign accent” phenomenon in the utterances of non-native language users, intercultural competence, embodied Polish, methodologies for teaching Polish language and culture.
