TIPS FACE DO OR DIE CONTEST; HEAD FOR OGDEN AND WEBER STATE

MISSOULA--

Although it's difficult to decide which game during the season is most important, most Montana Grizzly fans probably feel this weekend's meeting with the Weber State Wildcats in Ogden, will certainly be one of the most important for the Bruins.

Montana currently leads the in non-conference play with a 2-0 record; in total defense, giving up an average of 215 yards'per game, and in rushing defense, giving up 142 per game. Weber State is third in rushing defense and last in total defense.

The up-to-now tenacious Grizzly defense will face its toughest test to date this weekend, however. Weber is slightly ahead of Montana in total offense, way ahead in pass offense, and close behind in rushing offense.

The Wildcats split in their first two games, coming from way behind to nip'Northern

Arizona University, 29-28, then being massacred 58-12 by powerful San Diego State.

Montana owns victories over the University of North Dakota, 19-14, and the University of South Dakota, 7-3, coming from behind on both occasions.

Saturday will find two of the leading rushers in the Big Sky going against each other. Henry Owens, speedy Weber halfback, has carried 23 times for a 7-yard average, while Montana's fullback Bryan Magnuson has a 5.7-yard average on 28 attempts. Lee

White, Weber fullback, is fourth ranked in rushing with 4.5 yards per carry on 43 tries.

The biggest advantage Weber has is line size. Offensively, the Bruins average 207 pounds in the line, while Weber averages 234. On defense, Montana's front men will average 216, Weber's 234 again.

Defensive backfields are nearly even, while Montana's offensive backfield is

slightly bigger than Weber's.

The Montana-Weber Statre series dates back to 1962, and the Grizzlies hold a 3-2 edge. In 1962, Montana whipped the Wildcats 25-6; Weber came back with a 19-13 victory

in 1963; in 1964, it was Montana's turn, 20-12; the Silvertips made it two in a row in

1964 at Ogden, with a last-minute 15-14 win, and last year, Weber bombed the Bruins,

28-0 in Missoula.
