In Missouri Valley play the Leathernecks lost to South Dakota, at North Dakota State and home to South Dakota State, all teams that have been ranked in the top 10 in the country during the season. Western Illinois is 6-1 on the road this season. In the two seasons under Charlie Fisher, they are 10-3 on the road. The Leathernecks are making their 11th trip to the FCS Playoffs and their second trip in the last three seasons. Only 13 FCS schools have gone to the FCS Playoffs more than Western Illinois. WIU has won seven games in the FCS Playoffs. Western Illinois ranks 13th in the nation in scoring offense this season, averaging 35.5 points per game. They are also fourth in the country in turnover margin at +15 and rank 10th nationally in completion percentage. The Leathernecks are also fourth in the country in punt returns at 18.4 yards per return and fourth in interceptions with 18 on the season. Individually, junior quarterback Sean McGuire is seventh in the country in pass efficiency and ranks 11th in pass completion percentage. He has thrown for 2,650 yards and 24 touchdowns this season, the 13th most touchdowns in the nation, with just six interceptions. Senior wide receiver Jaelon Acklin is fourth in the country in receiving yards with 1,253 and ranks sixth in the nation in yards per game at 113.9. Defensively, senior All-America linebacker Brett Taylor leads the nation in tackles with 150 for an average of 13.6 per game. Junior Steve McShane is first in the country in punt returns, averaging 20.2 yards per return.

HEAD COACH CHARLIE FISHER The Leathernecks are coached by Charlie Fisher who is in his second season as head coach. He enters this week with an overall record of 14-8 in two seasons at Western Illinois and is a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award, giving to the FCS Coach of the Year. Prior to becoming head coach, Fisher was a longtime assistant coach at Richmond, Penn State, Miami (Ohio), Vanderbilt, Temple and North Carolina. State. He also spent five seasons as the head coach at estW Georgia from 1993-97, posting a 36-17 record.

SERIES HISTORY This will be just the third all-time meeting between Weber State and Western Illinois. The Leathernecks won both meetings, winning in 19-10 in Ogden in 1975 and winning 21-19 in 1976 in Macomb. Weber State is 4-11 all-time against teams currently in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The Wildcats lost back-to-back games to North Dakota State in 2014 and 2015 and lost in overtime at South Dakota last season.

Jay Hill is in his fourth season as the head coach at Weber State. In 2016, he led the Wildcats Hill Profile to a winning record, a third-place finish in the Big Sky, and a trip to the FCS Playoffs.

Born: March 16, 1976 Hill was named the 11th head coach in Weber State football history in December 2013. In four Alma Mater: Utah ‘00, 05 seasons at WSU, he has a career record of 23-22 overall and is 19-12 in Big Sky Conference Wife: Sara games.
