THE STORY The Pegu was the signature drink of Burma's Pegu Club in the 1920’s, a social club that Rudyard Kipling describes in his book Sea to Sea a “funny little club always filled with lot of people either on their way or down river”. The club was located just outside Rangoon now off Pyay Road.
The recipe appeared in The Savoy Cocktail Book of 1930 by Harry Craddock and was called The Pegu Club Cocktail. However it appears to be first listed in "Barflies and Cocktails" by Harry McElhone (the Harry of the famous Harry’s New York Bar in Paris).
