1 Southern California Yachting Association Attention One Design/ PHRF/Cruisers/RC Model Boaters/ Predicted Log and Dinghy Racers Enter the 91st Midwinter Regatta 2020 February 8 and 9 or February 15 and 16, 2020 The two-weekend format, stretching from Morro Bay to Baja California and points east, will again enable host yacht clubs to select the best fit for racers wishing to participate in this unique event. This yachting tradition is a chance to test your skills against the best skippers on the West Coast or provide an opportunity to experience the thrill of competitive racing for the first time. The SCYA Midwinter Regatta, the nation's largest sailing competition, offers 26 venues, attracts more than 600 competing boats, 100 classes and more than 2,500 sailors. Our Midwinter Committee has been working closely with SCYA, the regatta's commercial sponsors and participating host clubs to ensure everyone has a great time. Each hosting yacht club showcases what they have to offer the sailing community. The Southern California Yachting Association, now in its 99th year of service, continues to facilitate member club communications, sponsors a variety of boat safety seminars, club management training, honor and service awards and much more. 90 years of successful past Midwinter venues tell the story about this unique event. (619) 757-3915 2 Southern California Yachting Association Dear SCYA Midwinter Regatta Participants: Welcome, thank you for being part of SCYA’s 91st Midwinter Regatta, which is the largest regatta in the nation encompassing 26 hosted venues participating in two weekends with over 600 competing boats and more than 2,500 sailors. This year’s Midwinter Regatta promises to be one of the best with the expected addition of invited classes, including one-design, PHRF, Cruisers, Multi-hulls, dinghies, remote control model boats, Predicted Log, RS-Tera and various sponsors, which will only enhance the boating and racing experience to all those involved. Online Registration on SCYA’s website: For Midwinter 2020, we offer online registration at www.scyamidwinterregatta.org for all host club venues. Simply click on “2020 Regatta Information” which takes you to a list of the host club venues. Click on the venue of your choice, fill out the registration form and complete your entry using the online payment feature. Your selected host club will have access to your registration data. Check back with your host club via its site on www.scyamidwinterregatta.org for sailing instructions, all other race documents and results. For paper entries, please mail the Entry Form which follows to SCYA or directly to your host club along with your check made payable to “SCYA”. The 2020 Midwinter Regatta is being run once again on two different weekends, the first being the 8th and the 9th and the second will be the 15th and the 16th of February. This allows the various clubs to pick the best dates to increase participation in their invited classes, to add classes to their schedule and allow the best racers of different classes to participate in multiple races over the two weekends. This year, race participation will be enhanced by the addition of our disabled sailors racing alongside able-bodied sailors in various races and in certain of our venues. Funds generated by this event help support SCYA in their continuing contributions to our racing community in the Southwest corner of our great nation. Facilitating member club communications, sponsoring a variety of boat safety seminars, club management training, honor and service awards and much more. Cell 310-486-2367 3 91st SCYA MIDWINTER REGATTA NOTICE OF RACE February 8 and 9, 2020 & February 15 and 16, 2020* 1.0 RULES The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (“RRS”). 2.0 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 2.1 Each entrant must be a member of a yacht club or sailing association belonging to the Southern California Yachting Association (SCYA), US SAILING, the Southern California Cruiser Association (SCCA), or the American Model Yacht Association (ACMYA) or a guest of the host venue. In select non-spinnaker classes, the Host Venue may waive this requirement and accept other entries. Contact the Host Venue for further information. 2.2 Participating classes are listed in this Notice and include handicap, one-design, model boats and Predicted Log. Classes not listed may apply to the SCYA Midwinter Chairman for assignment to a host club. Three entries are required to establish a class. All entrants must be current members of the fleet in which they race, unless noted in the Yacht Club’s Sailing Instructions. Out of the area boats may obtain a guest handicap certificate from PHRF of Southern California by calling (562) 438-6712. 2.3 Boats competing in this regatta shall use the ratings applicable to the host yacht club’s venue where they race. 2.4 Entries and payments should, preferably, be submitted on-line at SCYA’s event site, www.scyamidwinterregatta.org by clicking on the “2020 Regatta Information” tab and then selecting your desired venue from the list displayed. Then, please fill out your registration form and pay on-line. Your registration information will be made available to your host club for race management purposes. Please check back periodically on www.scyamidwinterregatta.org under your host club’s listing for all further race documents and updates. You may also complete and mail the Entry Form with payment to: SCYA, 5855 Naples Plaza, Suite 211, Long Beach, CA 90803-5080 or deliver same directly to your host yacht club before the entry deadline specified by that club. Host model yacht clubs may use their own entry forms. 2.5 One-design classes are requested to have an official representative at each host club before or during registration to resolve any issue relating to that class. 4 2.6 Entry fees: LOA of the boat: <10 ft. 10 to 19.9 ft. 20-30 ft. Competitors are requested to contact their host yacht club as to any start time changes and special instructions. 4.0 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Sailing Instructions will be published by each host yacht club and will be available as determined by each club. 5.0 TROPHIES Trophies will be awarded at each host yacht club after the final race, according to the following schedule: Entries 3 to 5 6 to 8 9-11 12 to 15 16 to 20 21 up Trophies 1 2 3 4 5 6 Trophies not claimed within 60 days shall be forfeited. 6.0 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors in this event are reminded that they participate entirely at their own risk.
