We have heard the debate raging – but all pharmacists are clinical pharmacists. Our intimate knowledge of medicines, how they are used within systems and how they benefit patients is what makes pharmacists so important. And we should not forget the valuable contribution of pharmacy technicians. So if you want to utilise your skills and knowledge and improve patient outcomes then you should attend the Congress this year. It has been another big year for pharmacy. The Hospital Pharmacy Transformation Programme is in full flow and the HoPMO programme will direct over 7,000 pharmacists and clinical pharmacy technicians to drive improved outcomes from medicines in hospitals. Literature was explored in relation to national identity, migration, consumer culture theory, consumer acculturation, diaspora theory, memory and nostalgia and food consumption and identity. The study used a qualitative research approach to address the issues under investigation. Interviews were used to collect data based on the understanding that food patterns and identity construction are context driven. The findings indicate that the food experiences of the Zimbabwean inbetweeners were specific to this group.

    RESTAURANTS OF SEATTLE 1853-1960 u « by Mrs. Hattie Graham Horrocks RESTAURANTS OF SEATTLE 1853-1960 Yesler1s Cookhouse, built in 1853 at the foot of ML11 Street, was really the first restaurant in the little village of Seattle. Everyone was welcome whether he could pay or not. Henry Yesler would not let anybody be hungry. Dr. David Maynard, as Justice of the Peace, held his first trial therej religious services were held in the cookhouse; it was the lounging place for the men when they met to exchange the news of the day or while away the evenings at cards or telling stories; the volunteers and naval officers on the Sound made it their rendezvous; Judge Landers set up his office in one corner of the dining room; it was sometimes used as a jail. Within its weathered and smoke-blackened walls men "ate, drank, sang, prayed, wept, and slept• " Their dreams in the cookhouse saw a forest cleared and a city built. From then Seattle began to shape and plans were made for trade with distant lands. Long after all the log cabins had been replaced in the town, the cookhouse was left standing, the only log house in the business district. It was finally torn down in 1866 and it was mourned by those who felt it had been their friend. Later Henry Yesler built a pavilion which was used for all gatherings but church for many years. Dr. Maynard!s funeral-was held there in 1873* The Felker House, built by Captain Felker in 1853* who saw the need of a rooming house, when he made trips to Seattle from San Francisco, was located at Commercial and Jackson Streets.

For those that know anything of Belvidere, two images come to mind: Oasis and Chrysler Plant. These folks will freely admit they have only driven by and have never been to Belvidere proper. They haven’t the faintest idea that Jeeps are made in Belvidere, and they generally have no idea where “Boone County” is, although they know it is “out there somewhere, maybe near Grundy” because they’ve heard both referred to on the weather reports. They have never heard of the Boone County Fair, nor is it a place they would likely attend. They have no animus toward us, but Belvidere and Boone County are as completely foreign to them as Timbuktu. Conversely, the Belvidere Oasis, the county’s most famous asset, is a black box for most of Belvidere and Boone County. The Oasis is the number one local source of fuel tax revenue and one of the largest generators of local sales Fred Harvey at the Illinois Tollway Oasis tax. But it’s not a place that anyone from Boone County even thinks about, let alone visits. When comprehensive plans are drawn and tourism is promoted, the number one stop in Boone County for travelers is ignored. We discussed making the Belvidere Oasis a transportation hub in our last issue.
