Take off is with funky atmospheric sounds, landing by earthy dub. When working with Hunziker's compositions, the band integrated spontaneously created grooves and impressions – until the repertoire was ready to be pressed for their debut album «Rotten Rainbow Rollercoaster». This evening in Moods features the album's release. This first encounter between these two prominent guitar voices promises to be an event where it pays to attend! Duration incl. titles 1:54:56 Duration excl. titles 1:54:08 Artists Siyabonga Mthembu voc, Shabaka Hutchings sax, Mthunzi Mvubu sax, Gontse Makhene perc, Ariel Zomonsky b, Tumi Mogorosi dr Description He has already appeared on the Moods stage with The Comet is Coming and Sons of Kemet: the busy saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings. One of his further projects is the South African band, The Ancestors. With them he generates a profound vibe, which follows hot on the heels of the spiritual jazz of Ayler and Coltrane. Hutchings' ecstatic groove-jazz also makes this genre interesting for a younger audience. Because, with Hutchings, jazz is not a label with limits, rather something that further develops of its accord – and for certain also during this evening in Moods! Thomas Gansch tp Description The performance by «Mnozil Brass»-mastermind Thomas Gansch with the ZJO last March was so impressive, that the ZJO invited the trumpeter to a Don Ellis evening. Gansch is a lucky stroke for the program and the ideal exponent: he clearly enjoys himself with music, flies positively over the technically and rhythmically challenging pieces and, now and then, between the solo parts also plays impromptu passages of diverse band sections. Under the musical leadership of Steffen Schorn, Thomas Gansch plays with the ZJO numbers such as «Indian Lady», «Pussy Wiggle Stomp», «In A Turkish Bath». Good Feelin’! Music that doesn’t let go, gets you laughing, marveling, moving and dreaming. Like Miles Davis, who said about his album «Filles de Kilimanjaro»: a lightshow for the blind. Four musicians cover a wide musical gamut, which provides tension and relaxation, quiet and hectic, beautiful melody lines and abrupt breaks. All of them have played together for years in the most divers line-ups and have developed a musical language that demands complete trust, favours musical trickery and encourages freedom on stage. On his debut album, «Greek Fire» (2015), Bigyuki plays unique compositions featuring elements of jazz, hip hop, soul, rock and electronica. On stage he will be accompanied by a drummer and a guitarist. Live, the trio creates an unexpectedly massive sound. Andra Kouyaté/Richard Bourreau/Vincent Erdeven Style world/mali 1:55:51 1:55:04 Artists Andra Kouyaté n'goni, voc, Richard Bourreau violin, kora, Vincent Erdeven g Description The Deltas build a bridge between traditional African song and blues, folk and jazz. The trio, comprising Vincent Erdeven and Richard Bourreau from France and the Malinese Ngoni player, Andra Kouyaté, combines the diverse cultures and different musical styles with astonishing ease. Equipped exclusively with string instruments, they exploit their versatility to accompany Kouyaté’s dark voice with bluesy guitar, melodic violin and rhythmc Ngoni. The result is known as «Ligerian Blues» – the album released in 2016 – whose tracks suggest stages of a long journey throughout the African continent. And for all those that have always missed them, here is an attempt to describe them: weird, comedic-tragic style, costumes and masks, falsetto singing, instrumentation that includes accordion, drums, musical saw, piano, a mix of variety, cabaret, punk and gypsy music. The texts are not for those of conservative values: in macabre overtones they tackle themes such as drug addiction, blasphemy, prostitution, abortion, perverse sexual fantasies – wherever there is something objectionable, they provocatively contribute their two penn’orth. You simply have to experience them.
