INTERVIEW a whole program for such great musicians. In a solo concert you carry the whole evening on your shoulders, the space belongs to you. When you play with more musicians you share that space; in a way you take a Pierre step back, you just play what has to be played. As a drummer you’re there to give pulse, dynamics, fire and color to the band. TNYCJR: You also at one time played a very extensive kit. Do you still use that set-up? r e l Favre PF: Yes, there were times where I tried to play full h i Z melodies on the drums and I came on stage with all s a e r (CONTINUED ON PAGE 36) d n A y b o JEFF WILLIAMS QUARTET t o John Hébert, Duane Eubanks, John O’Gallagher h P by Ken Waxman Friday March 30th at 9:00 & 10:30 Cornelia Street Cafe 29 Cornelia Street (212) 989-9319 During a career of more than 55 years, drummer Pierre Paiste & Sohn, as your secretary? Christy Doran In The Corner Of The Eye For forty years, Irish-born, Lucerne-based guitarist Christy Doran The majority of Doran’s releases have been with has recorded prolifically for numerous bands, from the seventies jazz-rock/free jazz group OM to New labels. Inevitably perhaps, many of his earli- Bag, his main working group of the past two decades. Yet er works are out of print, so it’s cause for Doran’s five-decade-long discography is peppered with out- celebration that this release brings together standing solo and duo recordings. the very best of Phoenix (hat Art, 1990) and Phoenix – duo collaborations with Ray Anderson, What a Band (hat Art, 1992), two long- Hank Roberts, Marty Ehrlich and Urs Leimgruber –and What a neglected yet essential Doran recordings. It can’t have been an easy task to select just half Ian Patterson, August 2015 August Patterson, Ian the tracks from those two releases for this compilation but the end product gives a fascinating insight into a more intimate side of Doran’s artistry. Don’t confuse intimate with relaxed, however, for the solo acoustic tracks represented here - the orchestral ambi- tion of Solomutations’ and the fiery ‘In the Corner of the Eye’ - are pure exhilaration. The former, underpinned by a throbbing metronomic riff, sees Doran utilize loops and delay effects in a thrilling and at times ambient excursion reminiscent of Ralph Towner. On the latter, Doran exhibits fretwork as charged as anything John McLaughlin- an undoubted influence - has ever committed to record. -

Ingresso libero sino a esaurimento posti. -

Christy Doran's Sound Fountain „Undercurrent“
Christy Doran's Sound Fountain „Undercurrent“ Lukas Mantel – drums, comp. Christy Doran – guitar, comp. Franco Fontanarrosa – bass, comp.
