Abstract Phytocoris nowickyi (Miridae), Buchananiella continua, Temnostethus tibialis (Anthocoridae), Arocatus longiceps (Lygaeidae) and Empicoris rubromaculatus (Reduviidae) are recorded for the first time from Belgium. Additional records of Corythucha ciliata {Tingidae), Xylocoridea brevipennis (Anthocoridae ), Leptoglossus occidentalis (Coreidae) and Pinthaeus sanguinipes (Pentatomidae) are given. In addition, Empicoris rubromacu/atus is recorded here for the first time from Greece. COMPARATIVE ECOLOGY AND MIMETIC RELATIONSHIPS OF ITHOMIINE BUTTERFLIES IN EASTERN ECUADOR By BOYCE ALEXANDER DRUMMOND III A DISSERTATION PRESENTED TO THE GRADUATE COUNCIL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA 1976 UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA 3 1262 08666 406 6 For Nancy, as she lays aside her net awhile to take up the caduceus ACKNOWLEDGMENTS It is my pleasure to thank the members of my committee, Drs. Thomas C. Emmel, Archie Carr, Clifford Johnson, and Thomas Walker, for the guidance and encouragement they have provided throughout my graduate career. I have profited greatly from their respective graduate courses and from the exposure to their divergent, but complementary, approaches to biology. I also thank Drs. John Ewel, Dana Griffin, and Jon Reiskind for helpful discussions and much useful information during the writing of this dissertation. For the countless ways in which they have assisted in all phases of the research reported here, I profess my deepest appreciation to Dr. Thomas Emmel, chairman of my committee, and Nancy Drummond, my wife and field assistant. Without the benefit of their help, many of the goals of this project could not have been accomplished. To Dr. Emmel, who first introduced me to tropical ecology and kindled my interest in the biology of the Lepidoptera, I am indebted for the constant personal, academic, and financial support he so graciously proffered. My wife, Nancy, whose great enthusiasm for our year of field work in Ecuador was matched only by her unflagging patience during the tedious year and a half that followed in Gainesville, assisted in the collection of specimens and population samples, handled most of the life-history rearings, and aided in the preparation and analysis of the data.

Konstantinov St. Petersburg State University, St. Petersburg, 199034 Russia Received December 24, 2003 Abstract—This communication is the third one in a series of papers treated the morphological review of the aedeagi of Pentatomidae and its possible taxonomic significance. Fully inflated internal structures of the aedeagus of 18 species of Asopinae were studied. The examination of the Asopinae confirmed the monophyly of this taxon and revealed three distinct types of the aedeagal structure within the subfamily. These types differ in the structure of the theca, median penal plates, and ventral, ventrolateral, and apical conjuctival lobes. These characters can be used in phylogenetic analysis as well as in a tribal classification of asopines. Acta Musei Moraviae, Scientiae biologicae (Brno) 94: 43–55. – All available published and unpublished distributional records of Pinthaeus sanguinipes (Fabricius, 1781) in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are summarized, mapped and discussed. The distribution of this species in the Czech Republic (both Bohemia and Moravia) is disparate, with records pooled to three periods (c. 1890–1903, 1936–1952, and 1993 – present). The pattern for Slovakia is less clear, with several records before 1897 and only seven scattered records between 1947 and 1992. Keywords. Pentatomidae, Asopinae, Pinthaeus, distribution, Bohemia, Moravia, Czech Republic, Slovakia Introduction The genus Pinthaeus Stål, 1868, including only two Palaearctic species, belongs to the Asopinae, a subfamily of predaceous shield bugs. While Pinthaeus humeralis Horváth, 1911 is restricted to China and Japan, the second species, P. sanguinipes (Fabricius, 1781) (Figs 1–2), is widely distributed in the deciduous forest zone of the northern Palaearctic.

September 2014 „... und ich weiß recht wohl, dass eine möglichst vollständige Fauna der Rhynchoten eines Landes das Zusammenwirken vieler Forscher durch eine lange Reihe von Jahren voraussetzt, eine solche für die Steiermark also jedenfalls der Zukunft vorbehalten bleiben muss.“ (Josef Eberstaller 1864:109, Beitrag zur Rhynchoten-Fauna Steiermarks) Abstract: Checklist and Red List of True bugs of the Austrian province Styria (Insecta: Heteroptera). – This paper provides a critical checklist and Red List of the Heteroptera in Styria. Fourteen species are recorded the first time for the province. The analyses of 23,420 data records from 2,684 sampling locations revealed a total of 691 Heteroptera species for the province of Styria, which is 76 % of the species known to occur in Austria. Within Austria, eight species are currently known only from Styria. 68 % of the species are considered of least concern including eleven not evaluated non-indigenous species. This means that 32 % are considered endangered to various degrees: 34 species (5 %) are considered “regionally extinct”, most of them are xerothermophilic species of open lands. 30 species (4 %) are considered “critically endangered”, 46 species (7 %) “endangered”, and 56 species (8 %) “vulnerable”. 64 species (9 %) were considered “data deficient” due to unclear taxonomy or lack of data. Percentages of red list species are particularly high in bogs and wetlands, wet and dry extensive grasslands, and running waters due to habitat loss, degradation and isolation.
