Saline habitats have a key role in conservation of numerous plant and animal species in Vojvodina, as well as characteristic communities of true bugs. These insects belong to one of the most diverse insect groups in saline habitats. Species Henestaris halophilus (BURMEISTER, 1835), Conostethus hungaricus WAGNER, 1941 and Solenoxyphus fuscovenosus (FIEBER, 1864) are saline specialists and can be found only in these habitat types. True bugs have great qualities for future biomonitoring projects concerning habitats such as saline grasslands and wetlands. During the study, species Hydrometra gracilenta HORVÁTH, 1899 and Solenoxyphus fuscovenosus (FIEBER, 1864) are recorded for the first time in Serbia. Key words: Hemiptera, salt steppes, salt marshes, alkaline lakes, Pannonian plain Saline or halophitic habitats in Serbia are floods in spring (BOROS, 2003; TÖRÖK ET AL., 2011), are mostly situated in the northern part of the country, in apparently not favourable for many groups of insects, Vojvodina Province, and these habitats are listed among but the true bugs are among the most abundant and the the priority habitats by the Annex I of the EU Habitat most diverse insects in them.

E-mail: [email protected] 2Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle (Paris), Département Systématique et Evolution, Entomologie, 4 square Saint-Marsal, F-66100 Perpignan, France 1Corresponding author Abstract The Cicadetta montana species complex includes six cicada species from the West-Palaearctic region. Based on acoustic diagnostic characters, a seventh species Cicadetta cantilatrix sp. nov. belonging to the complex is described. The type- locality is in France but the species distribution area extends to Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Mace- donia and Montenegro. The calling song sequence consists of two phrases with different echemes. This calling pattern clearly differs from those produced by all other members of the complex, including C. cerdaniensis, previously mistaken with the new species. This description increases the acoustic diversity observed within a single cicada genus and sup- ports the hypothesis that sound communication may play a central role in speciation. Key words: Cryptic species, bioacoustics, Cicadidae, Cicadetta, geographic distribution, France Introduction Some biodiversity is not obvious when looking at preserved specimens. Various species do not differ in their morphology, but drastically in their behaviour. Such sibling, or cryptic, species are particularly evident in insects that produce sound to communicate: they look similar but sing differently.

  • Štys P. the Stridulatory Mechanism in Centrocoris Spiniger (F.)
ACTA ENTOMOLOGICA MUSEI NATIONALIS PRAGAE 1 9 6 1, X X X I V, 59 2 !--- THE STRIDULATORY MECHANISM IN CENTROCORIS SPINIGER (F.) AND SOME OTHER CQREIDAE (HETEROPTERA) PAVEL STYS (Chair of Systematic Zoology, Charles University, Praha) Introduction · Leston (1957) has summarized the knowledge of stridulatory mecha- . nisms in terrestrial species of Heteroptera. The ability to stridulate was ascertained in 11 terrestrial families of bugs, and 14 types of stridulatory organs have already been registered. In a number of groups (Acanthoso midae, some subfamilies of Pentatomidae, Coreidae) the ability to stridu late was ascertained, but the stridulatory mechanisms have not yet been discovered. It follows from the Leston's summary that the ability to stridulate was alreadyregistered in 3 genera of the family Coreidae: Phyllomorpha Lap., Spathocera Stein and Centrocoris Kolen. However, the stridulatory mechanism is still not known in any of these genera*). Saunders (1893) had noticed that Centrocoris spiniger (Fabricius, 1781) "stridulates loudly", but he did not give more particulars. During my excursion to the western coast of the Caucasus in June 1960 I had an opportunity to collect the mentioned species, to observe its stridulation and to discover its stridulatory meC1hanism. Field observations Centrocoris spiniger (F.) is very common insect on the western coast of the Caucasus. In the period 21st to 28th June 1960 I found it many times (also in copula) in several places near the towns Tuapse and Sochi, always associated with its host-plant Anthemis tinctoria L. (det. V. Ska licky). I failed to hear stridulation of the free specimens on the plants.

forest observer vol.4 2008 249 - 292 Biomonitoring der Zikadenfauna (Auchenorrhyncha) in alpinen Wald-Ökosystemen Südtirols auf den Dauerbeobachtungsflächen IT01 Ritten und IT02 Montiggl im Jahre 2006 Michael Carl Abstract Ecological assessment in alpine forest ecosystems: Biomonitoring of and bioindication by the leafhopper-fauna (Auchenorrhyncha) at monitoring sites in northern Italy Concerning leafhopper communities the Ritten (IT01) and Montiggl (IT02) have become one of the most intensively explored mountain massifs of South Tyrol. From 1996 to 2006 more than 4900 individuals out of 81 species were collected. The use of leafhoppers as a management tool for monitoring status and change in forest ecosystems is critically evaluated. The fauna of both sites is dominated by a characteristic set of partially strongly specialized species. Species turnover as well as evaluation of precipitation and temperature of the monitoring sites show a strong reaction of the leafhopper communities on effects probably caused by climate change.
