Allman is one of the founding members of the one and only Allman Brothers Band (ABB). The ABB had tremendous success in the early ‘70s and introduced “Southern Rock” to the nation. In 2012, the group was honored at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
Allman’s distinctive voice places him in the Rolling Stone’s list of the top “100 Greatest Singers of All Time.” In 2011, his first solo record in 13 years, Low Country Blues, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Blues Album. The album is a collection of eleven blues standards and one new song written by Allman. As a solo artist, Allman was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
His tell-all memoir, My Cross To Bear, about his life in music, was on the New York Times bestseller list. The book focuses on his journey as a struggling artist through the formation of the Allman Brothers Band and their ultimate explosion on the music scene, informed by the hindsight of Allman today, the survivor of unimaginable loss, alcohol and drug addictions, as well as a recent liver transplant.
