Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 The Definitive Map and Statement of Public Rights of Way for the County of Norfolk To: Norfolk County Council Of: County Hall, Martineau Lane, Norwich, Norfolk, NR1 2SG I, Ian Michael Witham of The Hollies, Church Lane, Edingthorpe, Norfolk NR28 9TJ hereby apply for an order under Section 53(2) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 modifying the definitive map and statement for the area by: adding to the particulars of the restricted byway from the Thorpe Market Road to the Northrepps Road opposite the north western end of Footpath No. 6 in the parish of Southrepps by providing that the width is that shown excluded from the hereditaments on the Finance Act 1910 Valuation Plan and that there are no limitations or conditions on the use of the route by the public and shown on the map accompanying this application. Box 1346 Ann Arbor, Ml 48106-1346 ilBSTRAGT The Cromer Moraine forms a distinctive geographical region near the coast of the northern part of the County of Norfolk. A pro nounced characteristic of this region is the vridespread cover of heatb-land, far less extensive than in former times. This heathland appears in its turn to have developed from an original woodland cover which was destroyed by the depredations of man and his domesticated animals . It has been necessary first to delimit the region as accurately as possible and this has been accomplished by means of a detailed study of local topography and of well-sections. The earliest evidence of the location of heathland comes from tlie Domesday Survey and this has been confirmed by references to heathland in various other documents dovm to 1750. By the middle of the eighteenth century the new developments in agriculture^ or ’Norfolk Husbandry’ as it was called, became widely known and practised, resulting in this region in a greatly accelerated reclama tion of heathland; so that by the time of the Tithe Survey (183S-42) less than a hundred years later over 4000 acres of heath had been reclaimed.

Parish Registers and Transcripts in the Norfolk Record Office This list summarises the Norfolk Record Office’s (NRO’s) holdings of parish (Church of England) registers and of transcripts and other copies of them. Parish Registers The NRO holds registers of baptisms, marriages, burials and banns of marriage for most parishes in the Diocese of Norwich (including Suffolk parishes in and near Lowestoft in the deanery of Lothingland) and part of the Diocese of Ely in south-west Norfolk (parishes in the deanery of Fincham and Feltwell). Some Norfolk parish records remain in the churches, especially more recent registers, which may be still in use. In the extreme west of the county, records for parishes in the deanery of Wisbech Lynn Marshland are deposited in the Wisbech and Fenland Museum, whilst Welney parish records are at the Cambridgeshire Record Office. The covering dates of registers in the following list do not conceal any gaps of more than ten years; for the populous urban parishes (such as Great Yarmouth) smaller gaps are indicated. Whenever microfiche or microfilm copies are available they must be used in place of the original registers, some of which are unfit for production. A few parish registers have been digitally photographed and the images are available on computers in the NRO's searchroom. The digital images were produced as a result of partnership projects with other groups and organizations, so we are not able to supply copies of whole registers (either as hard copies or on CD or in any other digital format), although in most cases we have permission to provide printout copies of individual entries.

Cette année, le guide recense plus de 550 pubs, dont 81 nouveaux établissements, situés dans tout le Royaume-Uni, depuis Kylesku en Écosse jusqu'à Perranuthnoe et Southwolt en Angleterre en passant par Cahersiveen en Irlande. Sous la direction de Michael Ellis, Directeur du guide MICHELIN, cette sélection montre que la qualité de la cuisine proposée dans les pubs ne cesse de s’améliorer, et que de plus en plus d'établissements choisissent de servir en priorité des produits régionaux. De nombreux pubs parviennent à relever le défi du rapport qualité-prix : « Les chefs n'hésitent plus à utiliser des pièces moins nobles afin de composer des menus à des prix plus abordables, notamment pour le déjeuner, souligne la rédactrice en chef du guide Rebecca Burr. Who can understand it!” (Jeremiah 17:9). The problem is that humans have rebelled against God in their desire to become ‘gods’ themselves.
