SHARING THEIR TALENTS Retirees at helm of oldest alumni association in Canada

When recruiting volunteers, Jack Colbert (’90 Lubricants) says it’s not enough to just ask for help. “You have to pigeonhole the person who you think will do a good job. It’s the only way.” Colbert knows this from experience. When the Shell Retired Employees Association (SREA) in Vancouver began searching for new leadership, Colbert says he was “cornered” early in the game. So was Bob Linegar (’94 Marketing Products). Fifteen years later, the two work hand in glove as leaders of the oldest association of Shell alumni in Canada.

“Working with the Shell Retired Employees Association keeps me personally engaged,” Linegar says. Colbert agrees. “I’m a firm believer that when you retire, you have to keep active. How can we help keep people warm while reducing emissions? Natural gas could be one of the answers. When used to create electricity, it is the cleanest-burning of all the fossil fuels. What’s more there is plenty of it, there could be enough to last for the next 250 years. Shell is helping to deliver this gas to more countries than any other energy company. Let’s power our future with gas. www.shell.us/naturalgas
