In the years since its first performance at the Celebration Theater in Los Angeles, the staged version of “Naked Boys Singing” has become an international phenomenon, playing successfully in more than 40 cities and in six languages all over the globe. Director Troy Christian has restaged the play for the film and come up with new arrangements for the original songs. The opening song, “Gratuitous Nudity,” is written and performed in such a sense of fun as to help the audience get over any nervousness they might have about the nudity. Before you know it, most people forget the performers are still naked, well, kind-of, but of course, that’s one of the points made in this light- hearted study of nudity, what we think of it and how we react to it. Naked Boys Singing! is a fun, joyous, and even liberating experience, guaranteed to touch your heart in places and leave you with a smile on your face. You may even find yourself afterwards singing some of the songs in the shower. We've got an interview with one of Michael's chief collaborators, an amazing choreographer by the name of Vincent Paterson. He has a documentary that is titled "The Man Behind the Throne", and I think that's a really accurate way of describing him. He's a guy that often isn't in the limelight around Michael's career, but is somebody that had a crucial, crucial role in the in the visual aspects of a lot of Michael's art. Q: And a huge footprint in pop culture, I believe, so-- Jamon: Absolutely. Q: Yeah, well, I guess we should just get to the show. Jamon: Let's do it! For me, a name that should certainly be mentioned right alongside, and of just as much importance is choreographer and director Vincent Paterson. Jamon: Yeah, Vincent Paterson began his career with Michael working as an assistant choreographer and lead dancer on the "Beat It" and "Thriller" short films, before continuing on to ideate and choreograph the timeless masterpiece of film "Smooth Criminal".

  • Strike a Pose
BOND/360 Presents STRIKE A POSE A FILM BY ESTER GOULD AND REIJER ZWAAN RT: 83 min Rating: Not Rated Website: www.madonnadancers.com North American press: Silversalt PR Thessa Mooij Laura Schwab 646.637.4700 347.401.0825 [email protected] [email protected] SHORT SYNOPSIS In 1990, seven young male dancers - six gay, one straight - joined Madonna on her most controversial tour. On stage and in the iconic film Truth or Dare they showed the world how to express yourself. Now, 25 years later, they reveal the truth about life during and after the tour. Strike a Pose is a dramatic tale about overcoming shame and finding the courage to be who you are. LONG SYNOPSIS In 1990, seven young dancers joined pop star Madonna on her most controversial world tour. Wild, talented and barely twenty, the dancers set out on the trip of a lifetime. Their journey was captured in Truth or Dare, one of the highest-grossing documentaries ever. As a self-proclaimed mother to her six gay dancers plus straight Oliver, Madonna used the film to take a stand on gay rights, freedom of expression and the fight against AIDS. Madonna’s flamboyant dancers became icons of sexual freedom, inspiring people all over the world to be who you are. At the height of the AIDS epidemic and in the aftermath of the conservative Reagan era, Truth or Dare introduced audiences to fun-loving, bold and larger-than-life gay characters. The film was ground-breaking, featuring two guys kissing passionately during the famous Truth or Dare scene.

  • Madonna’S Former Dancers €˜Strike a Pose’ in Revealing Logo Documentary
Madonna’s Former Dancers ‘Strike a Pose’ In Revealing Logo Documentary 02.17.2017 Logo unleashed a gripping sneak peek of the upcoming documentary Strike a Pose, due in April. The 2-minute trailer spotlights seven of Madonna's male dancers, who joined the entertainer for her controversial "Blonde Ambition" world tour in 1990 and documents how their lives changed, using both old and new footage along with never-before-seen images. The featured dancers are Oliver Crumes III, Carlton Wilborn, Luis Camacho, Salim "Slam" Gauwloos, Kevin Stea, Jose Gutierez and Gabriel Trupin (who passed away in 1995). The film's title comes from the opening line in Madonna's 1990 hit song "Vogue." Voguing was a dance style that evolved out of the Harlem, N.Y., LGBT ballroom scene of the 1980s, and was already a popular art form among African-American and Latino LGBTs before it was later mainstreamed by the singer. A few of Madonna's chosen dancers were already popular ballroom "Voguers," such as Jose Guiterez, who was a member of the House of Xtravaganza. The dancers' high-profile stint on Madonna's tour helped break barriers for generations of LGBT people pushing for more visibility and acceptance; and toured the United States during a socially conservative time in the country-Republican president George Bush, Sr. was in office, the AIDS crisis was still claiming thousands of lives, and LGBT people were openly discriminated against in almost all segments of society. "The daring progressive message was that you can be gay and human," said an interviewee in the clip.

Some may say that seeing Madonna through my eyes is a way of fully comprehending her; others who believe she walks on water won’t. There are many ways of looking at this story—as a memoir of a shared childhood, as the celebration of an icon who turns fifty this year, as my autobiography…and as my answer to the eternal question “What is it really like being Madonna’s brother?” I had originally hoped that this book would also be a way for me to define myself and separate from my sister at last.
