Upcoming Reunions Margaretha Murr _____________________________________________________________ *. “Newsletter Update” Welcome to our fourth newsletter! Since creating this publication, I’ve been working to establish a routine layout in which I would feature a couple of the different groups within the DFA as well as keep some regular features. However, we have additional information of interest for those that will be traveling to Germany this fall or for those considering making the trip. We also have new information regarding the technical side of our genealogical record keeping that we wanted to share with you. If you have a story or information that you believe should be shared with the others as soon as possible, send it to us for inclusion in the next newsletter. Thanks! Phil Dillman ________________________________________________________________________ 1. “GERMANY 2009!” Final Chance to join! Only 4 spaces remaining! Deadline for Registration has been extended to June 22 nd !! The countdown is on!! Our German trip of a lifetime is just over 3 months away! September 30, 2009 will see us heading to airports to ensure we land in Frankfurt, Germany in the morning on October 1 st . Preparations are well under way for our meetings with local German Dillmann/Dielmanns, etc., local historians, and areas that were and are meaningful to our Dillmann ancestors and relatives. 1 We have four spaces left, based upon our transportation plans in Germany. Thus, we are extending the deadline in hopes a few more people might decide to join us. If you are interested please let Andrew Stillman know immediately at [email protected] and send in the registration form by Monday, June 22 nd . To view the itinerary included with the December 2008 Newsletter, please follow this link: http://www.dillmanfamilyassociation.org/itineraryDillman%2009.pdf Below, you will find a Registration Form, which needs to be returned, along with a deposit of 50% of the cost, in the form of a personal cheque, certified cheque, or money order, to the DFA Treasurer, Earl Dillman not later than June 22 nd , 2009. The balance is due by July 15 th , 2009. The price of the trip does not include airfare to and from Frankfurt, which will be our starting point. Each participant will be required to make their own flight arrangements. After tallying the response expressed by those following the December Newsletter, and taking into account the current economic climate, it is best to be conservative in budgeting. Hence, using a smaller number of expected participants to share the fixed costs means that the price of the trip is moderately higher than the preliminary figures in the December 2008 Newsletter. It must also be noted that the price to be paid is in Euros and the USD price may still vary somewhat when the final booking is made. The price per person for a double room is USD 2,200 and for a single room is USD 2,660 . Should the final costs end up lower, the DFA is committed to returning any difference back to participants. And remember, this price covers all hotels, ground transportation, guide fees, all breakfasts, all dinners and some lunches. Entry fees to castles, etc, are still being negotiated as the itinerary is still being finalized and are not yet included. Cancellations can be accepted up to July 31 st and a full re-imbursement of funds will issued. No refunds can be provided after July 31 st . For any questions or for further information, please contact Andrew Stillman, DFA Vice- President 2008-2010 at [email protected] 2 Germany 2009 Tour Registration Form Registration Forms MUST be returned with the deposit, in the form of a personal cheque, certified cheque or money order, to arrive no later than June 22nd, 2009, to the DFA Treasurer. Insights into the Heritage of Hans Georg Dillmann and Margaretha Murr By G. Andrew Stillman Editor’s Note: Active research is underway on attempting to extend our knowledge of many Dillman lines that originate from Germany. This article is about one of those lines (Dillman Family Group 2 in the DNA charts http://www.frankdillman.com/dnalist.htm ). The towns mentioned here, Neureut and Hagsfeld are on the itinerary for the October trip to Germany. Genealogy is not just the study of hard facts containing names and dates, it also requires an understanding of the answers to the questions who were they, where did they come from, what were their lives like. It is equally important to be able to put a logical story around a person’s life to increase our insight and appreciation of what our ancestors lives were like. To do this for the immigrant Hans Georg Dillmann’s line, we need to know as much as we can about his birthplace and early home, Neureut. Hans Georg was born in Neureut on 29 th February 1724 to Hans Georg Dillmann Sr. and his wife Euphrosina 1. Hence, the first part of this article focuses on Neureut and Karlsruhe. Following this, I will then look at the family history of Hans Georg’s wife, Margaretha Murr, whom he married in Teutschneureut on 26 April 1746 2. Neureut, birthplace of Hans George Dillmann, Jr. (Germany to Pennsylvania, 1751) Hans Georg Dillmann Sr. was probably not born in Neureut, although, to date, his birth location has not been determined. At some point, Hans Georg Dillmann Sr. and his wife, Euphrosina Stober settled in Neureut, probably as a result of the encouragement the local Margrave (a German noble ranking between a duke and a count, roughly equivalent to the English title Marquess) was giving to resettle land that had been left vacant during the many wars in 17 th century Germany. The first confirmed record of this family in Neureut is the birth of their daughter, Eva Rosina, on 5 th December 1721 3. Hans Georg Dillmann Sr. passed away on 1 st June 1731 in Neureut at the age of 50 years and 2 months 4, leaving a wife and 7 children, his son Hans Georg Jr. was only 7 years old and the youngest, Maria Salome, was 3. Tragically, Hans Georg Sr.’s son, Conrad, died 2 weeks later on 15 June 1731 at the age of 19 years and 10 months 5. Life was harsh and Hans Georg Sr.’s youngest daughter, Maria Salome passed away on Christmas Day 1732 at the age of 4 ½ years 6. Euphrosina, widow of Hans Georg Dillmann Sr, passed away in Neureut from joint pain on 28 February 1746 (the actual record reads Euphrosina, born Stober; wife of the deceased Johann Georg Dillmann, deceased; he was a local citizen; joint pain; in her 60th year; James xiv, 5 (verse read at her funeral)) 7. Hans Georg Dillmann Jr. left Neureut in 1751 for Pennsylvania with his wife and two children. Other family members remained 1 Evangelische Kirsche Teutschneureut, Taufen (births) 1721-1738, Family History Library mfm# 1238234 2 Evangelische Kirsche Teutschneureut, Heiraten (marriages) 1739-1758, Family History Library mfm# 1238234 3 Evangelische Kirsche Teutschneureut, Taufen (births) 1721-1738, Family History Library mfm# 1238234 4 Evangelische Kirsche Teutschneureut, Toten (deaths)1721-1738, Family History Library mfm# 1238234 5 Evangelische Kirsche Teutschneureut, Toten (deaths)1721-1738, Family History Library mfm# 1238234 page 8. 6 Evangelische Kirsche Teutschneureut, Toten (deaths)1721-1738, Family History Library mfm# 1238234 7 Evangelische Kirsche Teutschneureut, Toten (deaths) 1739-1758, Family History Library mfm# 1238234 4 in the area, however, his only surviving brother, Johann Michael Dillmann, passed away shortly after on 20 th October 1751, approximately 40 years old 8. This summary of events provides a window of 30 years where this family was present in Neureut, that being 1721-1751. In trying to piece together what Neureut was like and the reasons why our immigrant ancestor decided to leave his home (aside from the many family tragedies) and brave the voyage to come to America, I have looked through several sources to find the history of Neureut.

They make direct connections between town centers and surrounding regions possible, by physically linking existing regional heavy-rail networks with urban tram-networks. The Tram-Train approach offers many advantages by using existing infrastructure to improve regional transit. However using two very different networks and mixing heavy rail and tram operations increases complexity and often requires compromise solutions. The research surveyed existing systems to identify key requirements for successfully introducing Tram-Train systems. These requirements include network design, city layout, population density, and physical factors (e.g., platform heights). One of the most important factors is cooperation between many actors including transit operators, railways and cities. Tram-Train systems are complex, but can provide significant benefits in the right situations.

Newsletter – May 2021 English-language on-line resource expat-ka.com • [email protected] Spring 2021 in Pfinztal Dear Expats, Spring is in the air, the fruit trees are blooming, the forests are turning green and the days are getting longer – it’s even possible to get sunburn! The month of May is full of holidays, so even though travel isn’t recommended, you can still get out and enjoy the area. Holidays and Special Days in May May 1 — Labor Day (Maifeiertag). Official public holiday in all of Germany. It falls on a Saturday, so be sure to get your grocery shopping done on April 30th. May 9 — Mother’s Day in Germany. May 13 — Ascension Day (Christi Himmelfahrt) Official public holiday in all of Germany. May 22 – June 5 — Pentecost Holidays for the Karlsruhe public school system. May 23 — Whit (Pentecost) Sunday (Pfingstsonntag) May 24 — Whit (Pentecost) Monday (Pfingstmontag) Official public holiday in Germany. Karlsruhe Neighborhoods This month we’ll start off with a non-Corona story! Did you know that Karlsruhe has 27 neighborhoods? Many of these were at one time separate towns as can be seen from the set-up of the important buildings and streets — a main street with shops and possibly a church, surrounded by streets with apartment buildings; or a main square surrounded by government buildings and shops. Many also still have their old town halls (Durlach, Grötzingen, Stupferich, Neureut and Wettersbach). Karlsruhe was founded in 1715, but many of the neighborhoods are much older. For instance, Grötzingen (in the eastern part of Karlsruhe) was first mentioned in a text in 991, but it is probably much older and only became a Karlsruhe neighborhood in 1974.

Among others, water-bearing reservoirs in former hydrocarbon formations show favorable storage conditions for HT-ATES locations. This study characterizes these reservoirs in the Upper Rhine Graben (URG) and quantifies their heat storage potential numerically. Assuming a doublet system with seasonal injection and production cycles, injection at 140 ◦C in a typical 70 ◦C reservoir leads to an annual storage capacity of up to 12 GWh and significant recovery efficiencies increasing up to 82% after ten years of operation. Our numerical modeling-based sensitivity analysis of operational conditions identifies the specific underground conditions as well as drilling configuration (horizontal/vertical) as the most influencing parameters.
