FOLS Lottery The winner of this month’s lottery is Victoria Marzana – Congratulations! – don’t forget to sign up on the gateway for the coming year. Reminder: Vote, vote, vote! – Project Loudwater Pool Renovation! Miss Weston has been successful this year in securing funding from Tesco’s to assist with our pool renovation. The level of funding (£1,000 up to £4,000) is dependent upon Tesco’s customers voting in store at each visit with a token registering which they feel is the most worthy cause. Please would you encourage all family and friends to support us. There are 12 stores within the local area where voting for our pool project can be registered. We would like to thank Tesco for their support in choosing to sponsor our school. Swimming Pool You will have noticed over the past ten days much activity around our pool; the team are making great progress having replaced most of the old structure in preparation for the new liner. Work will go on through the holidays ready to re-open the pool on our return in September. Breakfast Club Please ensure all outstanding balances relating to this term are settled on the School Gateway before the end of the term. The new breakfast club for 2017/18 has been set up on the School Gateway and you can book sessions anytime from Saturday 22nd July. As previously communicated, the prices will be £4.00 including breakfast and £2.50 without breakfast per session. Also the breakfast club will be open from 7.45am from Wednesday 6th September. Thank you from FOLS We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you for supporting FOLS in this academic year. Together we have raised around £6,200 in 2016/17 for Loudwater School; of which around £2,650 was raised from our recent summer events (Sports day, Fete & Disco). This year we have tried a number of different initiatives, such as the very popular quiz night, Christmas tea towels and Easyfundraising - the latter alone has raised almost £500 just by members going online shopping! We have some great ideas for next year, and hope to be able to offer discounted pantomime tickets etc. - so please check book bags and the newsletter for updates, to make sure you don't miss out. Our success has been a true collaboration between parents, staff and friends of the school from our local community and beyond. We look forward to building on these partnerships to grow the total raised in 2017/18. Please don't forget to sign up to the lottery via School Gateway and of course, please do use Easyfundraising over the summer when you do any online shopping. No cost to you, but a benefit to our school. 4 We wish you a very happy summer, good luck to Year 6 at their new schools and we look forward to seeing you all in September! Best wishes - FOLS Committee Dress up Day On our return in September, our writing will focus on, ‘Big Me’. This will run over a week whereby the children will decide what the future holds. They will be asked to picture themselves several years on, working in their chosen careers. They will spend time researching their chosen profession and then writing a letter to their future selves. On Friday 15th September they will then come to school dressed in the uniform of their chosen careers as their future selves e.g. Fireman, Police Officer, Scientist, Engineer, Nurse, Teacher and many more. We would appreciate your help in supporting your child with the preparation. Staffing changes Miss Crossley left us earlier in the week – we wish her well. We are also saying goodbye to Mrs Walters who has been working with us a teaching assistant in Year 3. We wish her all the best in her new role. I am pleased to inform you that we now have a new cleaner, Mrs Mohammad who joins the team as of next week. Finally, we look forward to welcoming Mr Matthew Hasyn our Year 4 teacher who will be starting with us on our return in September. Thank you to Mrs Inglis for her hard work and effort with our Year 4 over the past three months. Goodbyes to Year 6 We wish our Year 6 pupils well in their new schools. During their time at the school, they have grown and developed into young people we are proud of. There achievements are not only academic; within the class there are some great musicians, artists and sports people. They will be going to a range of schools next year where I am sure they will become an asset to their learning community. I hope that they will make the best of all opportunities open to them and come back to visit us and tell us of their successes. Summer Break Finally I would like to wish you all a lovely summer break and look forward to welcoming you all back together with our new Foundation children when we return to school in September 2017. Yours faithfully, Clare Cunnington Clare Cunnington Headteacher Please be aware that we will be moving to an electronic version of the weekly newsletter from September. For those still receiving a paper copy, please ensure that you inform the office of your current email address – contact: [email protected] 5 Disclaimer From time to time we are asked by a range of organisations to give out leaflets. We always agree if we think this could be of interest or benefit to the children. However we do not endorse any of these organisations and parents should always check their credentials carefully to make sure children would be safe and well looked after Leaflets for the Summer You will have already received this week a brochure and leaflet pack detailing a broad range of local based activities for all over the coming summer period.

Feby 2019 Wil , wo’t o, wi y, wo’t o? Inertia is very tempting, and it’s normally easiest to say, “No”, or “Can’t be bothered” and staying firmly in one’s comfort zone, and under the real or metaphorical duvet. However, AHS students have been busy ‘seizing the day’ this half term and making the most of every opportunity as will be apparent when you read these pages. Our ears are still buzzing from two wonderful House Music evenings where the 23 Year 12 House Captains did a great job organising 201 performers to interpret the theme of Inspiring Women. Looking forward, a good number of students (167 at the last count) are travelling to Washington, Spain (2), Gibraltar, France and Italy over half term, so bon voyage to all of them. As will be evident from Highlights, students and staff alike have put in an enormous amount of effort this half term, both in and out of the classroom, so I hope everyone has a well-deserved break next week and, whether or not on a school trip, returns refreshed and ready to make the most of every opportunity that turns up at AHS - if in doubt, go for it!
