Continuing the series on military awards and decorations of East Germany, this third article will focus on the Reservisten Medaille, Friderich Engles Preis, the JubilaiJmsmedaille, and the Theodor KSrner Preis.

Medaille fiir Verdienste in der Reservistenarbeit

The origins of the Medaillefiir Verdienste in der Reservistenarbeit closely parallel the Jubili~umsmedaille "30 Jahre Nationale Volksarmee. " The groundwork for the Medaillefiir Verdienste in der Reservistenarbeit (Medal for Merit in Reserve Duty) was established by a Resolution of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Socialist Unity Party--Measure for the Preparation and Performance of the 30th Anniversary of the National Peoples Army--in 1984. Based on this Resolution, the for National Defense, General of the Army Heinz Hoffmann, authorized Order Number 030/9/015, establishing the Medal for Merit in Reserve Duty on May 28, 1985.
