3 FEATURED HALF BOTTLE OF CABERNET SAUVIGNON Pride, North Coast, 2015 - $99 Summit Ranch has a history rich in the texture of 19th Century . The first records of plantings date back to 1869. Built in 1890, the gravity-fed served the entire mountain, although sometime during Prohibition, it was destroyed by a fire. Now all that is left are the ruins of the original stone walls. Founded in 1990 by Jim and Carolyn Pride, Pride Mountain sits high up on Spring Mountain. Riding the crest of the Mayacamas Mountain Range at an elevation of 2,100 feet, the 235 acre property is bisected by the Napa/Sonoma county line. While in 1890 one winery served the entire mountain community, in 1990 government regulations required that Pride Mountain Vineyards have two separate facilities, one in Napa County and one in Sonoma County, with the division down the center of the crush pad. Wines produced here now are designated Napa Valley, Sonoma County or with percentages of both on the label, supporting the tag line, "One Ranch ~ Two Counties." 5 FEATURED CHAMPAGNE Jean-Pierre Launois, "Monochrome", NV - $148 Champagne Jean-Pierre Launois is today a winery that retains traditional values while evolving with the times. Jean-Pierre Launois, with his son Julien, carry on the family tradition as stewards of the family vineyard, located in the Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. In a great turning point of the family story, Julien and Sarah Launois have decided to become producers as well as growers. Their handmade cuveés are as delightful as they are rare. This Blanc de Blancs cuvée "Monochrome" is the first that was entirely completed at their new winery, giving it their first "R.M." designation. The for this wine come from their vineyard, on the elevated slopes overlooking "Clos du Mesnil". They believe that Champagne is a product of luxury and quality, but also a vector of contacts and openness to the world. "Les Romains" was planted sixty years ago by then patriarchs Denis and Jean-Louis on south facing, silex soils. 11 FEATURED RIESLING TROCKEN Keller, "Von der Fels", 2018 - $88 The G.O.A.T. - Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali, Wayne Gretzky...there has always been discussion, no matter what the subject is, who is the greatest of all time? Sometimes its clear cut, sometimes arguements can be made. In the case of dry German Riesling, there is one house that stands above the rest, Weingut Keller. The estate has been in the hands of the Keller family since 1789, and Klaus Peter crafts some of the most breathtaking dry in all of Germany, if not the world. They produce small amounts of wine from their holdings in the Rheinhessen, from some of the most famous sites including Morstein, Kirchspiel, Hubacker and Brunnenhauschen. Typically these sites are bottled individually in their Grosses Gewachs wines, but in this case the "Von der Fels" is blended from the younger vines from these amazing sites. This wine is referred to by many as a "Baby GG", and when experts like Jancis Robinson MW refer to the GG's as "the Montrachets of Germany", you know the juice in these bottles is going to be phenomenal. 17 FEATURED PINOT NOIR Alexana, Eola-Amity Hills, 2013 - $88 Alexana Winery was born of Dr. Madaiah Revana’s love of the great wines of Burgundy. In the spring of 2005, Dr. Revana began a search for both the ideal region and an experienced with the goal of produc- ing Pinot Noirs that could rival those from Burgundy. His search ended in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. He acquired an 80-acre property located in the Dundee Hills American Viticultural Area. Known for its distinct geography and diverse micro-climates, the Dundee Hills is one of the most widely recognized premium Pinot Noir producing AVAs in Oregon. Alexana wines are a reflection of Oregon’s grape-growing climate and have become known for their elegance, balance and character. This cuvée is a blend of 2 famous vineyards in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA that is only available at the winery...until now. 19 FEATURED SYRAH Pax, "The Hermit", North Coast, 2016 - $105 Pax is back! Pax Mahle started his eponymous brand in 2000 after years of working in the wine business. He created rich, full-bodied from some of the best sites around California. In 2008, a rift in the partnership behind Pax Wine Cellars caused him to have to dissolve the brand for a short while, focusing his efforts on his new label, Wind Gap. The label change also brought a stylistic change in the wines to a more lean, restrained style. He re-launched the Pax brand in 2014, again showcasing Syrah from many of the best vineyard sites in northern California. "The Hermit" is made from 100% Syrah, with grapes sourced from all 5 of their Syrah vineyards. 21 FEATURED BLEND Andrew Will, "Ciel du Cheval", Red Mountain, 2014 - $138 Chris Camarda was Washington's original "Garagiste". He began his love affair with wine in the 80's, stemming from his many years in the restaurant industry, and he decided to launch Andrew Will in 1989. His first were made in a 60 foot by 10 foot room in the Queen Anne neighborhood in Seattle, literally about the size of a garage. These days, he has moved operations to a larger facility on Vashon Island, and he’s been especially keen on focusing on clonal selections that best fit the growing conditions in each particular vineyard. The Ciel du Cheval vineyard, planted in 1975 and one of the most prestigious in Washington, has been being used by Chris since his first vintage. He says, “I am not interested in the similarities of my wines, but the differences. The domaine has been co-owned by 2 families, the de Villaine's and the Roch's/Leroy's, since 1942. Aubert de Villaine, a humble, charming and highly intelligent man who is acutely conscious of the history of the domaine and the responsibility he bears towards it, has been the manager and face of the domaine since 1991, when Lalou Bize-Leroy left to focus on her own domaine. Often abbreviated as DRC, the winery makes some of the most exclusive wines in the world. 98% of their vineyard holdings are in Grand Cru vineyards, including their 2 "monopoles", La Tâche and Romanée-Conti. 29 FEATURED CÔTE-RÔTIE Bernard Levet, "La Chavaroche", 2016 - $187 The story of this domaine begins in 1936, when Nicole Levet's grandfather first purchased vineyards in Ampuis. His wines were only sold to local bistros and cafes, and delivered in barrels. Then in 1966 Nicole's father, Marius Chambeyron, began bottling a small portion of the wine produced at the estate. Unfortunately, Nicole's father fell ill in 1982, and that next year Nicole's husband, Bernard Levet, took over winemaking and vineyard management duties. That presious 1983 vintage was when the domaine really began to develop. They have since increased their vineyard holdings, as well as expanded their cellar capacity. Although production is still small, they continue to produce some of the most rustic, classically-styled Côte-Rôtie in the market today. NORTHERN RHÔNE

31 FEATURED CROZES-HERMITAGE Domaine Les Alexandrins, 2015 - $105 This is a project quarterbacked by none other than Nicolas Jaboulet. His recent success with Maison Nicolas Perrin has catapulted him to the forefront of the conversation. In 2012, the dream team was formed when he met the brilliant minds of Marc Sorrel and Alexandre Caso. Domaine Les Alexandrins was born. Using Syrah in soils and exposures more similiar to Hermitage than its sister appellation, the wine showcases a modern interpretation of the often overlooked Crozes-Hermitage. I'd say the rest is history, but with the pedigree involved here, its quite likely they will be making history in the near future! 33 FEATURED PRODUCER Jean-Louis Chave If there were a name that was synonymous with the hill of Hermitage, it would be that of Jean-Louis Chave. The family began making Hermitage in 1481, passing down wisdom through the generations to create some of the most perfectly balanced wines available. Traditionalists to the core, the key to the perfect balance of his wines is the remarkable blending skill. This creates wines of great nuance, harmony, depth and aging potential. 37 FEATURED BARBARESCO RISERVA Piazzo, "Vigna Giaia", 2008 - $107 The story goes that when the Etruscans were chased out of central to the North by the Romans, they eventually hid in the dense forests of Alba. The Romans knew vaguely where they were, but could never capture the fleeting tribe in the thick woods. Giving up the hunt the Romans would eventually name the region after the elusive Etruscans they thought to be barbarians: Barbaresco. The wines have always represented the most approachable form of the complex grape, with softer tannins than their counterpart, Barolo, to the West. Wines from the region continue to benefit from age and only in the best vintages will they be declared Riserva. This ten year old wine epitomizes the vintage, age-worthiness, and Riserva status completely. 41 FEATURED CHIANTI CLASSICO GRAN SELEZIONE Castello di Ama, "San Lorenzo", 2015 - $142 Too often Chianti Classico gets associated with the wicker baskets of bulk Chianti, or under-appreciated against the grandness of Brunello di Montalcino. Classico, located in the heart of Tuscany has been regarded as 's ideal home since the 13th century. Marco Pallanti began his impressive tenure as winemaker at Castello di Ama in 1982. Despite the region's reputation for poor quality at the time, Pallanti saw the potential in these ancient rolling hills. After apprenticing at Château Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux, he entirely redeveloped the estate vineyards and was among the first to experiment with international grape varieties. One of his most recent accomplishments as President of the Chianti Classico Consorzio was establishing the "Gran Selezione" classification. After all, who's to say there can't be "Grand Cru" Chianti? 43 FEATURED "SUPER TUSCAN" Avignonesi, "Grifi", Toscana, 2015 - $88 In 1309, Pope Clement V transferred the papal residence from Rome to Avignon, France. In 1377, when Pope Gregory XI moved the papal residence back to Rome, some noble families of Avignon left France to follow him. It was at that time, in Italy, that one of those families became known as Avignonesi - probably to simplify an otherwise difficult, foreign name. In 1974, the Falvo brothers, owners of the vineyards in the municipality of Cortona, took over the Avignonesi estate and refounded it investing greatly in viniculture, selecting the local varieties and introducing classical ones. Its thanks in large part to Avignonesi that the DOCG Vino Nobile di gained fame in the 1980s. Although they are known for their Vino Nobile's, their "Super Tuscans" are pretty super as well. The "Grifi", which is a blend of Sangiovese from their I Pogetti estate in Montepulciano and Cabernet Sauvignon from their La Selva estate in Cortona, is a stellar example of Tuscan terroir. 45 FEATURED SICILIAN RED Etna Rosso, I Custodi, "Ætneus", 2011 - $119 Etna is unlike any other wine producing region in the world. Most notoriously known as the home of Europe's highest active volcano Mount Etna, one would not consider this to be an ideal place to grow grapes--Dangerously steep rocky soils, unpredictable weather, the threat of volcanic eruption at any point? Very few are up for the challenge of making wine under such extreme circumstances. 47 FEATURED RIOJA RESERVA López de Heredia, "Viña Tondonia", 2006- $112 There is an unarguably "old school" style of Rioja. These wines are earthy, dusty, old and kick-ass. There is no estate that embodies this style more than R. López de Heredia. With current releases being anything but current, the winery continues to produce classic, complex Rioja. This Reserva is from the famed Tondonia vineyard, and the great 2006 vintage. While the old iterations of Rioja are being replaced by modern interpretations, Lopez reminds us what it means to drink Rioja. 49 FEATURED ARGENTINEAN MALBEC Luca, "Old Vine", Mendoza, 2016 - $84 There is no name more synonymous with Argentinean wine than that of the Catena family. Luca was founded in 1999 by Dr. Laura Catena, a fourth generation vintner, who joined her father's winery in 1995 after graduating magna cum laude from Harvard and earning her M.D. from Stanford. She shortly after, founded the Catena Institute of Wine, with the goal of carrying on her father, Nicolás' vision to put Argentine Malbec on the same level as the best wines in the world. Luca, named after her eldest son, was created in order to show off the greatness of Argentinean wines from rigorously farmed, high altitude, low yield vineyards. 55 FEATURED LANGHE MAGNUM Gaja, "Costa Russi", 2009 - $1,954 Angelo Gaja is the man credited for catapulting the region of Piedmont into the spotlight. His influence has changed the way the world views to this day. A master of Nebbiolo--the austere, tannic grape once considered only quaffable after decades of bottle age, Angelo saw its potential as a world class wine. Despite pushback from his peers, he employed new (and what most considered outlandish) practices both in the vineyard and the winery to promote freshness and elegance in his wine. The story of Gaja is a truly fascinating one, but is best told through a glass of his stunning Barbaresco...(hint, hint) LARGE FORMAT
