It is about the relationship between tomboy Ito Miura and the feminine Makoto Amano who share the common dream of becoming actors, as they work together to hide Makoto's secret identity as a boy. It is licensed in English by Viz Media. The title comes from the Japanese adoption of the letter "W" as a character meaning "double", so the title W Juliet means "Two Juliets". Two Juliets is the theme and conflict in the first chapter, during which the drama club puts on a production of Romeo and Juliet with Ito and Makoto in the title roles. At the start of the series, Ito Miura meets the beautiful transfer student Makoto Amano, and the girls become instant friends. Their personalities are completely different—Makoto is calm, quiet, and beautifully feminine, while Ito speaks, dresses, and behaves like a boy— but they share the same dream: becoming an actor. As soon as Makoto gets on stage at the drama club, it is clear she has talent, enough so she is cast as Juliet in the upcoming production of Romeo and Julietopposite Ito as Romeo. However, Makoto has a rival for the role in Tsugumi Nomura, an upperclassman who is obsessed with the boyish Ito. Worse, Ito learns Makoto's secret: "she" is actually a "he". Makoto's strict father wants him to inherit the family dojoand made a bet with his son—if Makoto shows he has the skill to pose as a female for his last two years of high school, he can become an actor as he wishes, but if anyone discovers his gender, he must stay home and accept the dojo. Ito agrees to keep Makoto's secret so that he could continue with his dream. The series follows Ito and Makoto during their last two years of high school, as they work to W Juliet: Volume 2 their acting and keep Makoto's secret. They start out just as friends, but continue as boyfriend and girlfriend. One of the obstacles they must face is keeping their relationship a secret from their family and friends, both because of Makoto's assumed gender and it would expose his secret. All the while, the drama club performs various plays, some of which are essential to demonstrating Makoto's acting skill to his father. According to an author's note, W Juliet was created as a one-shot manga early in her W Juliet: Volume 2, after she had published around eight other one-shots. Public response brought an invitation to write a second chapter, and so on, until by the fourth chapter's responses, it was decided that Emura could continue the W Juliet: Volume 2 as a continuing series, [2] eventually enabling her to quit her day job, and later enabling her to hire her sister as an assistant. Originally, Ito and Makoto were both going to be called Ito, but Emura's editor convinced her to change their names. According to the author, if they had shared a name, the "W" double in the title W Juliet: Volume 2 have had more significance. Sakura Eries felt the first volume was "pure and simple romantic comic fluff, and W Juliet: Volume 2 a lot of fun". It balances humor with quiet, reflective scenes. W Juliet was published by Hakusensha in Hana to Yume between and and collected in 14 bound volumes. A sequel W Juliet: Volume 2, W Juliet IIis ongoing in the irregularly published The Hana to Yume magazine, [19] and collected in four volumes as of February W Juliet was adapted as a series of three drama CDs released in Japan. One of the discs was only made available to Hana to Yume fans. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. W Juliet W Juliet: Volume 2 cover of volume 1. This section needs expansion. I've taken a look at the other comments, and the manga is highly regarded, so I'm gonna make a few enemies, but well That's some lousy sequel! Don't W Juliet: Volume 2 me wrong, I read an enjoyed the prequel, but the sequel sucks! I mean, wtf!? Again, that's some lousy haircut! Hell, no! That's so not gonna happen! Well, they're basically acting the very same as when they were 15 or They're adults for God's sake! The readers cannot be that young, that you can't even slip a hint of what they're doing! So, well As far as I'm concerned, I'm just W Juliet: Volume 2 pretend W-Juliet ended with the prequel, and that's that. Last updated on September 29th,am. Was this comment useful? Liked it a lot! Rating: 9. My main complaint is that I wish it was as long as the prequel. I love them being married! My secondary complaint is that I think Mako is being an idiot. He needs to climb down off the Over-Protection Wagon and let his wife be his partner. I know he worries about her, I know he wants to be able to take care of her, and I know she almost died 16 times in high school, but she is capable and smart, and W Juliet: Volume 2 being stupid. Also, I wish someone would translate the whole thing. W Juliet: Volume 2 makes me sad that it's half finished. Last updated on September 13th,pm. No wedding Ceremony. Are they going to release another special where Mako and Ito are actually going to get married? The fillers are nice, but it lacks something. And I agree with the reviewer down. W Juliet: Volume 2 aren't they acting in the theater anymore? Know what? Theater is a bigger ordeal than movies. Cause once you're onstage, there are no retakes. I was hoping they'd grow up in the theater business, but oh well. Guess we'll have to wait for more, if ever there W Juliet: Volume 2 be. Great Read!!! This manga is really sweet, funny and cute. The art is also really pretty. There is a lot of character development in these two volumes. So if you haven't read the prequel then you should but W Juliet II is also good as a stand alone. This manga means a lot to me and I think Ito and Makoto are the sweetest, cutest couple ever and you should really give W Juliet II a chance because you'll love it! Rating: 6. I absolutely loved W Juliet, but so far, I'm sorry to say, the sequel isn't nearly as good. First off, they've both switched rather abruptly from the theater to television, which is rather odd because neither of them expressed any interest in that part of acting before this. I know they felt like they had to earn money fast, but we are given no real reason as to why that is. It doesn't make sense. Secondly, it feels like Ito has basically stopped acting, even though it was a big part of her life in the first series. Makoto is still acting, W Juliet: Volume 2 to the point of it being too much, but Ito I'm sorry, but why does she suddenly have to stop doing everything, just because they got married? It really annoys me.
