I have not. I have been in high-speed over-drive on an un-tracked roller coaster course for the past month. You will hear all about it once I have time to breath. But j,, to give you a sense of what has been going on since our last communication I will provide the following summary. My last letter to you was an offering with the title: Everything You Never Wanted To Know About Azerbaijan= Typically for a Goltz ICWA epistle, it started as an eight page idea and grew into a monster manuscript. And it wasn't even finished. I had planned on sendinq two more instal I ments But in the midst- of the editing o Part Two I received a freak v t,3 I ran, and had to drop everything to get there before the visa limitations closed: I was, in effect, the first American tourist to the Islamic Republic in a decade. I had a wonderful time and kept a daily nohnnk that I plan to turn into another monster manuscript. The report that follows, cast as an article, is but a fraction of the IC".AA letter I was working on, but It will give a #te what is to come Anyway, I was editing the manuscript on the hoof and had just left _rran to do a loop around Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey to return to Baku via Nakhichivan when the poop hit the fan: The Armenians were attacking the obscure Azeri enclave, and once more Your6Truly was in a hot-spot by accident.

  • Julia Kostsova
Julia Kostsova GALLERY ON FIFTH Naples, Florida Julia Kostsova RUSSIAN TRADITIONS Exhibition dedicated to 400 anniversairy of Romanov's Dynasty Russian Traditions Russia is indeed a unique country, which, along with highly developed modern culture carefully preserves the national traditions deeply rooted not only in the Orthodox religion but also in paganism. The Russians still celebrate pagan holidays, many people believe in numerous omens and legends. Christianity gave Russians such great holidays as Easter and Christmas, and Paganism - Maslenitsa and Ivan Kupala. Old traditions are passed on from generation to generation. Easter Easter is the day of the resurrection of Christ. The holiday came to Russia from Byzantium together with Russia's christening in the end of the 10th century. Since then, this Christian holiday has been widely celebrated all over Russia. Christmas Christmas is the holiday of the birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, whose advent gave people hope for mercy, kindness, truth and eternal life. The Orthodox Church observes Christmas according to the Julian Calendar, on January 7, while Western churches celebrate it on December 25, in accordance with the Gregorian Calendar. Ivan Kupala Even in the time of the ancient pagan deity Ancient Russians used to have Kupalo, the God of summer fertility. In his honor people of sang songs and jumped over the bonfire. This ritual act has become an annual celebration of summer solstice, combining a pagan and Christian traditions. Kupala got the name Ivan after the baptizing of Russia, when he was replaced by John the Baptist (the way he was percepted by common people), who baptized Christ and whose birthday was celebrated on 24 June.

  • Calendar of Observances 2021
Calendar of Observances 2021 The increasingly pluralistic population of the United States is made up of many different ethnic, cultural, faith and religious communities. To enhance mutual understanding among groups and promote inclusive communities, the ADL offers this resource as a tool to increase awareness of and respect for religious obligations and ethnic and cultural festivities that may affect students, colleagues and neighbors in your community. Religious Observations The calendar includes significant religious observances of the major faiths represented in the United States. It can be used when planning school exam schedules and activities, workplace festivities and community events. Note that Bahá’í, Jewish and Islamic holidays begin at sundown the previous day and end at sundown on the date listed. National and International Holidays The calendar notes U.S. holidays that are either legal holidays or observed in various states and communities throughout the country. Important national and international observances that may be commemorated in the U.S. are also included. Calendar System The dates of secular holidays are based on the Gregorian calendar, which is commonly used for civil dating purposes. Many religions and cultures follow various traditional calendar systems that are often based on the phases of the moon with occasional adjustments for the solar cycle. Therefore, specific Gregorian calendar dates for these observances will differ from year to year. In addition, calculation of specific dates may vary by geographical location and according to different sects within a religion. Other Broadsides 17 Maps 18 Newspapers 18 Periodicals 19 Photos and Illustrations 19 Genealogy 21 Histories of the War of 1812 23 Maryland in the War of 1812 25 This document serves as a guide to the Maryland Center for History and Culture’s library items and archival collections related to the War of 1812. It includes manuscript collections (MS), vertical files (VF), published works, maps, prints, and photographs that may support research on the military, political, civilian, social, and economic dimensions of the war, including the United States’ relations with France and Great Britain in the decade preceding the conflict. The bulk of the manuscript material relates to military operations in the Chesapeake Bay region, Maryland politics, Baltimore- based privateers, and the impact of economic sanctions and the British blockade of the Bay (1813-1814) on Maryland merchants. Many manuscript collections, however, may support research on other theaters of the war and include correspondence between Marylanders and military and political leaders from other regions. Although this inventory includes the most significant manuscript collections and published works related to the War of 1812, it is not comprehensive. Library and archival staff are continually identifying relevant sources in MCHC’s holdings and acquiring new sources that will be added to this inventory. Accordingly, researchers should use this guide as a starting point in their research and a supplement to thorough searches in MCHC’s online library catalog.

The genocide that has been repeatedly committed against the Azerbaijani people, which for a long time was not subjected to proper political and legal assessment, is one of these unopened pages of history.
