Fortunately, damage was minimal and did not impact any liturgies. Permanent clean up and repainting is in progress and will be completed $5 soon. Due to this unfortunate occurrence, the parish is looking into installing security cameras which will cover the perimeter of the church exterior. If you are able or would JJ%:C%R$V ``V`1J$ like to assist with this endeavor, please contact Fr. Lanning at [email protected]. School has started. Our students reported back on Wednesday August 26th, Kindergarten through 8th Grade. PreSchool will be starting on Tuesday September 8th. The parish has invested substantially in keeping our students, teachers, and staff safe during this Covid19 environment. Due to distancing requirements there will be more activity in our driveways and specifically our north parking lot as we accommodate recess and possible outdoor classes. We ask everyone to be extra careful as you drive through St. Angela Parish and School property. In addition, due to busing limitations more of our students will be walking and riding their bikes.     Lent Vespers 1 16 March 2014 Concordia Lutheran Mission Terrebonne, Oregon “God Delivers Christ from Ruin and Sets His Foot upon a Rock for Us and for All Men.” He brought Me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set My feet upon a rock, and established My goings.1 Psalm 40:2 Introduction What is this pit of horrors from which Christ is delivered? The pit of horrors is God’s everlasting wrath over the sins of men. Similarly, the miry clay is the terra infirma (unfirm earth, quicksand as it were) of God’s abandonment of Christ because of the sins of men. God, however, delivered Christ from these terrors based on Christ’s Merit for us, namely, Christ’s waiting patiently on the Lord, obeying the Lord faithfully even in the midst of these terrors. God replaced the unfirm ground of His forsaking Christ with the firm Rock of God’s good favor won by Christ’s obedience. This Rock and Sure Footing stretches out in all directions forever because God has established Christ’s Ways. Through this Work of Christ’s in our behalf, God re-stores all men. Men are no longer forsaken by God to the pit of horrors and everlasting quick sand because of their sin and are Placed on the Solid Ground and Secure Footing of Christ. At Cambridge University he discovered a daily Bible study group. This group was sneered at, but sneering wasn’t enough. Latimer went to beg them to stop reading the Scriptures, but he discovered Master Stafford, a highly respected professor, leading the group. It was conceivable that young people were studying these new doctrines, but it was disgraceful for a doctor of divinity! Latimer attacked Stafford, and insulted him; he again begged the youth to abandon the professor’s heretical teachings and during the doctor’s lectures, he made signs of impatience plus ridiculed him afterwards. He even preached in public against the learned doctor. Bilney, a Bible reformer, heard Latimer’s attacks on the reformation and on the Bible. Bilney felt love for Latimer and prayed for a way to reach the priest with the truth. Then he went to see Latimer. “For the love of God,” he said, “be pleased to hear my confession.” Latimer was thrilled that a Bible study leader had come to him for confession. He felt vindicated and accepted Bilney’s request. Bilney knelt and related to Latimer, with touching simplici- ty, the anguish he felt in his soul, the efforts he had made to remove it while following the precepts of the church; and the peace he found by believing in Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world.
