Silva Balcanica, 19(3)/2018 a CHECK LIST and AREOGRAPHY OF Silva Balcanica, 19(3)/2018 A CHECK LIST AND AREOGRAPHY OF LONGHORN BEETLES (COLEOPTERA: CERAMBYCIDAE) IN VITOSHA MOUNTAIN Pavel Topalov Forest Research Institute – Sofia, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Abstract The analysis of literature data and studies of original biological materials showed that the complex of longhorn beetles in Vitosha Mt. includes 121 taxa from six subfamilies: Prioninae (2 species), Lepturinae (37 species and subspecies), Necydalinae (1 species), Spondylidinae (7 species and subspecies), Cerambycinae (35 species and subspecies) and Lamiinae (39 species and subspecies). Three species and one subspecies were established as new for Vitosha Mt.: Aegosoma scabricorne, Pedostrangalia (Pedostrangalia) revestita, Stictoleptura (Melanoleptura) scutellata scutellata and Hylotrupes bajulus. The established taxa belong to 20 zoogeographical categories and 7 complexes. The European complex occupies a dominant position – 44 taxa (36.4%), followed by the Palaearctic complex – 25 taxa (20.6%). The Mediterranean and Eurosiberian taxa are almost equally presented in the total complex – 15 taxa (12.4%) and 17 taxa (14.0%), respectively. However, the cerambycid endemics in Vitosha Mt. (two taxa, 1.7%) have a smaller share compared to endemics for the country (6.8%). Key words: Cerambycidae, areography, Vitosha Mt., Bulgaria INTRODUCTION The cerambycid fauna (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) of Vitosha is relatively well studied due to the disposition of the mountain near to Sofia, and the interest of collectors to this taxonomic group. It should be noted, however, that despite the existence of numerous publications and two targeted studies (Migliaccio et al., 2004; Doychev et al., 2009), there is still a lack of enough knowledge about the species composition, distribution and host plants of the longhorn beetles in the mountain. The aim of this study is to report new data about distribution of cerambycids in Vitosha, as well as to represent new records and to make areographic analysis of cerambycid fauna of the Mountain. MATERIAL AND METODS The present work is based on literature data and original research results. 25 The original studies were conducted during the period 2015-2017 by the following entomological methods: hand collection of cerambycids on flowers and host plants; collection of adult insects on grass, bushes and low parts of tree crowns with entomological bag; identification of larvae and adults found in tissues and organs of tree and shrub vegetation; rearing of adults in laboratory conditions from infested stems and branches of host plants. The new taxa for Vitosha Mt. are marked with an asterisk (*). The adults were identified by the keys of Plavilstshikov (1936, 1940, 1958) and Bense (1995), and the larvae – by the keys of Švácha, Danilevsky (1986, 1987, 1988). The longhorn beetles are listed in systematic order, by the system of Danilevsky (2018), without indicated tribes. The data about recent cerambycids taxa distribution is based on Danilevsky (2018). According to Georgiev & Hubenov (2006), Sakalian & Langourov (2007) and Georgiev et al. (2018) conceptions, the established taxa are arranged in 20 chorotypes (areographic categories). RESULTS The total number of cerambycid taxa in Vitosha Mt. is 121 from five subfamilies: Prioninae (2 species), Lepturinae (37 species and subspecies), Necydalinae (1 species), Spondylidinae (7 species and subspecies), Cerambycinae (35 species and subspecies) and Lamiinae (39 species and subspecies). A total of 1272 two-winged species that belong to 58 families has been reported from theVitosha Mt. The Tachinidae (208 species or 16.3%) and Cecidomyiidae (138 species or 10.8%) are the most numerous. The greatest number of species has been found in the mesophylic and xeromesophylic mixed forests belt (707 species or 55.6%) and in the northern part of the mountain (645 species or 50.7%). The established species belong to 83 areographical categories. The dipterous fauna can be divided into two main groups: 1) species with Mediterranean type of distribution (53 species or 4.2%) – more thermophilic and distributed mainly in the southern parts of the Palaearctic; seven species of southern type, distributed in the Palaearctic and beyond it, can be formally related to this group as well; 2) species with Palaearctic and Eurosiberian type of distribution (1219 species or 95.8%) – more cold-resistant and widely distributed in the Palaearctic; 247 species of northern type, distributed in the Palaearctic and beyond it, can be formally related to this group as well. The endemic species are 15 (1.2%). The distribution of the species according to the zoogeographical categories in the vegetation belts and the distribution of the zoogeographical categories in each belt are considered. The dipteran fauna of the Vitosha Mt. is compared to this of the Rila and Pirin Mountains.

From them 17 species are new to the mountain fauna and one species (Bibloporus mayeti GUILLEBEAU, 1888) is new to the Bulgarian fauna. The total number for the Vitosha Mountain fauna is 24, that is near 23% from all known species of the Bulgarian Pselaphin fauna. Key words: Pselaphinae, faunistics, new locality, Vitosha Mountain, Bulgaria Introduction Material and Methods In Bulgaria subfamily Pselaphinae is poorly known The research was made in different localities in the and there is a lack of regular investigations on it. The Vitosha Mountain (Table 1) from September 2003 to reported total number of species for Bulgaria until November 2003 and from March to November 2004. this moment is about 93 species (LÖBL, BESUCHET The specimens were collected by sifting leaf, soil 2004). and wood litter, samples were taken every month. The area of the Vitosha Mountain is not studied The collected material was placed in a Tullgren or yet and the information for Pselaphinae species is Winkler – Mokzarski extractor. A hand collecting scanty and sporadic. First data about this subfamily under stones, bark and ant nests was made at the were given by RAMBOUSEK (1909), who reported same time. Fifty soil traps were also used.

Molekulární fylogeneze podčeledí Spondylidinae a Lepturinae (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) pomocí mitochondriální 16S rDNA [Molecular phylogeny of subfamilies Spondylidinae and Lepturinae based on mitochondrial 16S rDNA, Bc. Thesis, in Czech]. Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia, České Budějovice, Czech Republic. 34 pp. Annotation This study uses cca. 510 bp of mitochondrial 16S rDNA gene for phylogeny of the beetle family Cerambycidae particularly the subfamilies Spondylidinae and Lepturinae using methods of Minimum Evolutin, Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian Analysis. Two included representatives of Dorcasominae cluster with species of the subfamilies Prioninae and Cerambycinae, confirming lack of relations to Lepturinae where still classified by some authors. The subfamily Spondylidinae, lacking reliable morfological apomorphies, is supported as monophyletic, with Spondylis as an ingroup. Our data is inconclusive as to whether Necydalinae should be better clasified as a separate subfamily or as a tribe within Lepturinae. Of the lepturine tribes, Lepturini (including the genera Desmocerus, Grammoptera and Strophiona) and Oxymirini are reasonably supported, whereas Xylosteini does not come out monophyletic in MrBayes. Rhagiini is not retrieved as monophyletic. Position of some isolated genera such as Rhamnusium, Sachalinobia, Caraphia, Centrodera, Teledapus, or Enoploderes, as well as interrelations of higher taxa within Lepturinae, remain uncertain. • (DIPTERA) FAUNA from the UPPER ISKAR RIVER CATCHMENT (BULGARIA) – SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION and ECOLOGICAL NOTES Dimitriy Dashinov
Supplement 1 Ecological Engineering and Environment Protection, IX, 2017, p. 16-21 NEW DATA ON THE CHIRONOMIDAE (DIPTERA) FAUNA FROM THE UPPER ISKAR RIVER CATCHMENT (BULGARIA) – SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION AND ECOLOGICAL NOTES Dimitriy Dashinov Abstract: The Chironomid composition was studied in 23 sites from 12 rivers along the upper part of the Iskar River catchment (Danube basin). Samples were gathered using Surber sampler in the summer period of 2015-2016. A total of 54 taxa (from 39 genera and 5 subfamilies) were identified from which 33 taxa were new for the upper Iskar River catchment. Two species were new for Bulgaria: Potthastia montium (Edwards, 1929) and Symbiocladius rhithrogenae (Zavrel, 1924). Two taxa belonged to genera not reported for the Bulgarian fauna – Cryptotendipes sp. and Sympotthastia sp. For most of the rivers the chiro abundance was relatively low with a mean of 60 ind.m-2, which is about 12% of the marozoobenthos community. Key words: Chironomidae, Iskar, Potthastia montium, Symbiocladius rhithrogenae, new records INTRODUCTION The period of sampling was in July - August 2015 and 2016. An overall macrozoobenthos sample On the Chironomidae fauna there is overall data was taken from each site using Surber sampler, for the whole Iskar River [5] [11] as well as from sections according to the adapted for Bulgaria version of the upstream and downstream of Sofia [17]. Along the multi-habitat sampling method [3]. The collected upper Iskar catchment studies of the Chironomidae samples were preserved in 70% alcohol and stored family are few. There is more data on the glacial lakes in the laboratory for further analysis.
