Sb 19(3) 2018-3 Silva Balcanica, 19(3)/2018 DOI: 10.6084/m9.figshare.8198282 A CHECK LIST AND AREALOGRAPHY OF LONGHORN BEETLES (COLEOPTERA: CERAMBYCIDAE) IN VITOSHA MOUNTAIN Pavel Topalov Forest Research Institute - Sofia Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Abstract The analysis of literature data and studies of original biological materials showed that the complex of longhorn beetles in Vitosha Mt. includes 122 taxa from six subfamilies: Prioninae (2 species), Lepturinae (37 species and subspecies), Necydalinae (2 species), Spondylidinae (7 species and subspecies), Cerambycinae (35 species and subspecies) and Lamiinae (39 species and subspecies). The established taxa belong to 20 zoogeographical categories and 7 complexes. The European complex occupies a dominant position (36.1%), followed by the Palaearctic complex (20.5%). The Mediterranean and Eurosiberian taxa are almost equally presented in the total complex - 12.3% and 13.9%, respectively. However, the cerambycid endemics in Vitosha Mt. (1.6%) have a smaller share compared to endemics for the country (6.8%). Key words: Cerambycidae, areography, Vitosha Mt., Bulgaria INTRODUCTION The cerambycid fauna (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) of Vitosha is relatively well studied due to the proximity of the mountain to Sofia, and the interest of collectors to this taxonomic group. It should be noted, however, that despite the existence of numerous publications and two targeted studies (Migliaccio et al., 2004; Doychev et al., 2009), there is still a lack of knowledge about the species composition, distribution and host plants of the longhorn beetles in the mountain. The aim of this study is to report data about distribution of cerambycids in Vitosha, to represent new records and to make areographic analysis of cerambycid fauna of the Mountain. MATERIAL AND METODS The present work is based on literature data and unpublished original research results. The original studies were conducted during the period 2015-2017 by the following entomological methods: hand collection of cerambycids on flowers and host plants; collection of adult insects on grass, bushes and low parts of tree crowns with entomological bag; identification of larvae and adults found in tissues and organs of tree 21 and shrub vegetation; rearing of adults in laboratory conditions from infested stems and branches of host plants. The adults were identified by the keys of Plavilstshikov (1936, 1940, 1958) and Bense (1995), and the larvae – by the keys of Švácha, Danilevsky (1986, 1987, 1988). The longhorn beetles are listed in systematic order by the system of Danilevsky (2018), without indicated tribes. The data about recent cerambycids taxa distribution is based on Danilevsky (2018). According to Georgiev, Hubenov (2006), Sakalian, Langourov (2007) and Georgiev et al. (2018) conceptions, the established taxa are arranged in 20 chorotypes (areographic categories). RESULTS The total number of cerambycid taxa in Vitosha Mt. is 122 from five subfamilies: Prioninae (2 species), Lepturinae (37 species and subspecies), Necydalinae (2 species), Spondylidinae (7 species and subspecies), Cerambycinae (35 species and subspecies) and Lamiinae (39 species and subspecies). • River Names As a Testament of Cultural Heritage
ONOMÀSTICA 5 (2019): 65–89 | RECEPCIÓ 28.10.2019 | ACCEPTACIÓ 28.11.2019 River names as a testament of cultural heritage (on hydronyms in the Iskar river basin) Anna Choleva-Dimitrova Department of Onomastics Institute for Bulgarian Language, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences [email protected] Abstract: River names are some of the oldest -onyms on record. The article examines 170 river names from the basin of the Iskar river – the largest tributary of the Danube in Bulgaria. The origin and significance of river names emerge through the application of traditional onomastic methods – onomastic (etymological) analysis and onomastic reconstruction. Comparative onomastic data from adjacent and more distant regions in Bulgaria and the Balkans are also drawn on. Conclusions about the relative antiquity of the hydronyms are drawn. Paraules clau: nom de riu, hidrònim, riu Iskar, riu Danubi, afluent d’un riu 1 Introduction Hydronymy is one of the most important branches of onomastics.

A total of 1272 two-winged species that belong to 58 families has been reported from theVitosha Mt. The Tachinidae (208 species or 16.3%) and Cecidomyiidae (138 species or 10.8%) are the most numerous. The greatest number of species has been found in the mesophylic and xeromesophylic mixed forests belt (707 species or 55.6%) and in the northern part of the mountain (645 species or 50.7%). The established species belong to 83 areographical categories. The dipterous fauna can be divided into two main groups: 1) species with Mediterranean type of distribution (53 species or 4.2%) – more thermophilic and distributed mainly in the southern parts of the Palaearctic; seven species of southern type, distributed in the Palaearctic and beyond it, can be formally related to this group as well; 2) species with Palaearctic and Eurosiberian type of distribution (1219 species or 95.8%) – more cold-resistant and widely distributed in the Palaearctic; 247 species of northern type, distributed in the Palaearctic and beyond it, can be formally related to this group as well. The endemic species are 15 (1.2%). The distribution of the species according to the zoogeographical categories in the vegetation belts and the distribution of the zoogeographical categories in each belt are considered. The dipteran fauna of the Vitosha Mt. is compared to this of the Rila and Pirin Mountains.

ACTA ZOOLOGICA BULGARICA Acta zool. bulg., 59 (1), 2007: 33-39 A Contribution to the Pselaphinae Fauna (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) of the Vitosha Mountain Rostislav Bekchiev1*, Maria Shishiniova1 18 Dragan Tsankov Bvld., Department of Zoology and Anthropology, Faculty of Biology, Sofia University, 1164 Sofia, Bulgaria, e-mail: [email protected] Abstract: Twenty-three species from subfamily Pselaphinae (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae) of the Vitosha Mountain have been reported. From them 17 species are new to the mountain fauna and one species (Bibloporus mayeti GUILLEBEAU, 1888) is new to the Bulgarian fauna. The total number for the Vitosha Mountain fauna is 24, that is near 23% from all known species of the Bulgarian Pselaphin fauna. Key words: Pselaphinae, faunistics, new locality, Vitosha Mountain, Bulgaria Introduction Material and Methods In Bulgaria subfamily Pselaphinae is poorly known The research was made in different localities in the and there is a lack of regular investigations on it. The Vitosha Mountain (Table 1) from September 2003 to reported total number of species for Bulgaria until November 2003 and from March to November 2004. this moment is about 93 species (LÖBL, BESUCHET The specimens were collected by sifting leaf, soil 2004). and wood litter, samples were taken every month. The area of the Vitosha Mountain is not studied The collected material was placed in a Tullgren or yet and the information for Pselaphinae species is Winkler – Mokzarski extractor. A hand collecting scanty and sporadic. First data about this subfamily under stones, bark and ant nests was made at the were given by RAMBOUSEK (1909), who reported same time. Fifty soil traps were also used.

Molekulární fylogeneze podčeledí Spondylidinae a Lepturinae (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) pomocí mitochondriální 16S rDNA [Molecular phylogeny of subfamilies Spondylidinae and Lepturinae based on mitochondrial 16S rDNA, Bc. Thesis, in Czech]. Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia, České Budějovice, Czech Republic. 34 pp. Annotation This study uses cca. 510 bp of mitochondrial 16S rDNA gene for phylogeny of the beetle family Cerambycidae particularly the subfamilies Spondylidinae and Lepturinae using methods of Minimum Evolutin, Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian Analysis. Two included representatives of Dorcasominae cluster with species of the subfamilies Prioninae and Cerambycinae, confirming lack of relations to Lepturinae where still classified by some authors. The subfamily Spondylidinae, lacking reliable morfological apomorphies, is supported as monophyletic, with Spondylis as an ingroup. Our data is inconclusive as to whether Necydalinae should be better clasified as a separate subfamily or as a tribe within Lepturinae. Of the lepturine tribes, Lepturini (including the genera Desmocerus, Grammoptera and Strophiona) and Oxymirini are reasonably supported, whereas Xylosteini does not come out monophyletic in MrBayes. Rhagiini is not retrieved as monophyletic. Position of some isolated genera such as Rhamnusium, Sachalinobia, Caraphia, Centrodera, Teledapus, or Enoploderes, as well as interrelations of higher taxa within Lepturinae, remain uncertain. • The Balkan Fold-Thrust Belt: an Overview of the Main Features
GEOLOGICA BALCANICA, 42. 1 – 3, Sofia, Dec. 2013, p. 29-47. The Balkan Fold-Thrust Belt: an overview of the main features Dian Vangelov1, Yanko Gerdjikov1, Alexandre Kounov2, Anna Lazarova3 1Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, 15 Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd, 1504 Sofia, Bulgaria; e-mail: [email protected] 2Geological-Paleontological Institute, Geoscience Department, Basel University; e-mail: [email protected] 3Geological Institute, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Acad. G. Bonchev Str., Bl. 24, 1113 Sofia, Bulgaria; e-mail: [email protected] (Accepted in revised form: November 2013) Abstract. The Balkan Fold-Thrust Belt is a part of the northern branch of the Alpine-Himalayan orogen in the Balkan Peninsula and represents a Tertiary structure developed along the southern margin of the Moesian Platform. The thrust belt displays of two clearly distinct parts: an eastern one dominated exclusively by thin-skinned thrusting and a western part showing ubiquitous basement involvement. A wide transitional zone is locked between both parts where the structural style is dominantly thin-skinned, but with significant pre-Mesozoic basement involvement in the more internal parts. For the western thick-skinned part the poorly developed syn-orogenic flysch is a characteristic feature that along with the very restricted development of foreland basin suggests a rather limited orogenic shortening compared to the eastern part of the belt. The Tertiary Balkan Fold-Thrust Belt originated mainly through a basement- driven shortening and this is explained by the occurrence of compatibly oriented reactivated basement weak zones of pre-Carboniferous, Jurassic and Early Cretaceous ages. The proposed re-definition of the Balkan thrusts system and internal structure of the allochthons also call for significant re-assessment of the existing schemes of tectonic subdivision.
