    Quaternaire, 22, (2), 2011, p. 105-127 PLEISTOCENE PANTHERA LEO SPELAEA (GOLDFUSS 1810) REMAINS FROM THE BALVE CAVE (NW GERMANY) – A CAVE BEAR, HYENA DEN AND MIDDLE PALAEOLITHIC HUMAN CAVE – AND REVIEW OF THE SAUERLAND KARST LION CAVE SITES n Cajus G. DIEDRICH 1 ABSTRACT Pleistocene remains of Panthera leo spelaea (Goldfuss 1810) from Balve Cave (Sauerland Karst, NW-Germany), one of the most famous Middle Palaeolithic Neandertalian cave sites in Europe, and also a hyena and cave bear den, belong to the most im- portant felid sites of the Sauerland Karst. The stratigraphy, macrofaunal assemblages and Palaeolithic stone artefacts range from the final Saalian (late Middle Pleistocene, Acheulean) over the Middle Palaeolithic (Micoquian/Mousterian), and to the final Palaeolithic (Magdalénien) of the Weichselian (Upper Pleistocene). Most lion bones from Balve Cave can be identified as early to middle Upper Pleistocene in age. From this cave, a relatively large amount of hyena remains, and many chewed, and punctured herbivorous and carnivorous bones, especially those of woolly rhinoceros, indicate periodic den use of Crocuta crocuta spelaea. In addition to those of the Balve Cave, nearly all lion remains in the Sauerland Karst caves were found in hyena den bone assemblages, except those described here material from the Keppler Cave cave bear den. Late Pleistocene spotted hyenas imported most probably Panthera leo spelaea body parts, or scavenged on lion carcasses in caves, a suggestion which is supported by comparisons with other cave sites in the Sauerland Karst. August 1884 Vorarbeiten der Sekundärbahnstrecke Hemer - Sundwig - Balve Nun wird der Bau einer schmalspurigen Eisenbahn durch das Hönnetal in privater Form 1894 angestrebt Baugenehmigung für die Strecke Hemer - Sundwig (Eröffnung am 01. Oktober 1891). Der 08. April 1889 Bau einer Strecke Menden- Balve - Neuenrade kommt weiterhin nicht voran. Weiterer Rückschlag: Die Rheinisch-Westfälischen Kalkwerke übernehmen die 1897 Hönnetaler Kalkwerke und untersagen eine Mitbenutzung der (teilweise) neu errichteten Werkbahn für mögliche Züge ins obere Hönnetal. Die Westdeutssche Eisenbahngesellschaft erhält die Genehmigung zum Bau einer 24. September Kleinbahn Hemer - Neuenrade, nachdem die RWK (siehe oben) die Benutzung der 1894 Werkbahn abgelehnt haben. Das Vorhaben zerschlägt sich aber wieder Der Minister für öffentliche ARbeiten genehmigt Vorarbeiten einer Normalspurbahn Menden - Neuenrade Die Westfälische Eisenbahngesellschaft soll diese Bahn bauen und 04.     Regionalplan Arnsberg Teilabschnitt Kreis Soest und Hochsauerlandkreis Bezirksregierung Arnsberg Regionalplanungsbehörde Internet: www.bezreg-arnsberg.nrw.de Stand: März 2012 Einleitung Der Regionalplan – Teilabschnitt Kreis Soest und Hochsauerlandkreis (ehemals Teilabschnitt Oberbereich Dortmund – östlicher Teil) Der Regionalplan wird kontinuierlich aktualisiert und fortgeschrieben. Der bisherige Regionalplan- Teilabschnitt Oberbereich Dortmund – östlicher Teil – (Kreis Soest und Hochsauerlandkreis) trat am 05.07.1996 in Kraft. Die Zahl der Änderungsverfahren, aber auch die veränderten Rahmenbedingungen, wie die demografische Entwicklung oder der Strukturwandel und nicht zuletzt neue rechtliche Vorgaben, erforderten eine Fortschreibung dieses Teilabschnittes. Entsprechend beauftragte der Regionalrat in seiner Sitzung am 10.01.07 die Regionalplanungsbehörde mit der Fortschreibung des Regionalplanes. Die Vorarbeiten zum Entwurf dieses Teilabschnittes begannen im Jahre 2007. In einer Vielzahl von Gesprächen wurden unter anderem örtliche Entwicklungswünsche und –hemmnisse abgefragt. Für die Siedlungsentwicklung wurden alternative Standorte sowie Rücknahme- und Umplanungsflächen diskutiert und die Möglichkeiten interkommunaler Zusammenarbeit erörtert. Auch die Weiterentwicklung und Sicherung der Freiraumfunktionen und der Verkehrsinfrastruktur waren wichtige Aspekte im Rahmen der Entwurfserstellung. Lda., Portugal From an anthropological perspective, the passage from the Gravettian to the Solutrean is one of the most interesting transition periods in Old World Prehistory. Between 22 kyr BP and 21 kyr BP, during the beginning stages of the Last Glacial Maximum, Iberia and Southwest France witness a process of substitution of a Pan-European Technocomplex—the Gravettian—to one of the first examples of regionalism by Anatomically Modern Humans in the European continent—the Solutrean. While the question of the origins of the Solutrean is almost as old as its first definition, the process under which it substituted the Gravettian started to be readdressed, both in Portugal and in France, after the mid 1990's. Two chronological models for the transition have been advanced, but until very recently the lack of new archaeological contexts of the period, and the fact that the many of the sequences have been drastically affected by post depositional disturbances during the Lascaux event, prevented their systematic evaluation.
