many of the Trojans were killed before they could put on their armour and seize their

was killed with all his brave sons. Hector’s wife and his old mother and sister were carried

off as slaves by the conquerors. Their fate was in contrast to Helen’s when King Menelaus

rushed through the city, looking for her and found her in her palace. She hung her head

She had no means of becoming known, understood, loved or be wedded to an aristocrat; and so she let herself be married to a minor official at the Ministry of Education. She dressed plainly, because she had never been able to afford anything better. She suffered endlessly, feeling she was entitled to all the luxuries of life. She suffered because of her shabby, poorly furnished house. All these things, that another woman of her class would not even have noticed, tormented her and made her resentful. [2] 1) Kings and Prophets ------2) In Primitive societies ------The Phrase ‘A law of Nature’ is probably rarer in modern scientific writing than was the case some generations ago. This is partly due to a very natural objection to the use of the word ‘law’ in two different sense. Human societies have laws. In primitive societies there was no distinction between law and custom. Some things are done, others are not. This is regarded as a part of nature of things and generally as an unalterable fact. If customs change, the change is too slow to be observed. Ans. Adult Literacy Shibir at St. Agnes School P M D Nashik, January 7: The Adult Literacy Campaign conducted by St. Agnes School was quite a hit. The brainchild of the Principal, Sr. Mary Kutti, the classes were attended by 200 men and women above the age of 40 who came each evening on week days. It began with the students of Stds. IX and X making a survey of the town and shortlisting almost 1200 adults who were uneducated. 723 of these were women. Then began

the motivation programme. Students would first go to the respective homes and try to motivate the adults concerned. If this failed, they would go with the teachers. It was heartening to note that there were about 200 adult students but the emphasis was on trying to enrol some more. The fund for books and other materials came from the sale of newspapers, old clothes and the like. Donations from parents and sponsors have also helped in a big way. Classes were conducted from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the school premises. Different students took up teaching on different days. Sr. Mary Kutti had drawn up the syllabi to be taught. It essentially consisted of the three R’s. There was no homework and no examination. The adult-students were also encouraged to talk about themselves. Teaching was done in the mother tongue. There were four classes, one each in Hindi, Marathi, Konkani and Malayalam. By a student Reporte r.

Mumbai, September 3rd:

Boys and girls of the RSP of Ideal School efficiently managed the traffic and pedestrians at the busy Hutatma Chowk from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on 1st September. Since it was a holiday, many of us went to see how our uniformed friends Controlled the traffic. It was a pleasure to see our friends taking turns to stand smartly on the platform in the centre of the chowk. They were accurate and firm in their gestures. Others monitored pavement traffic and aided the pedestrians across the street. Passers-by were amused to see the school children monitoring the traffic. The R.T.O. Mr. Akhil Behl, was there to give guidance and support. Our sports master, Mr. R. Chotawe was also present.

At 1 p.m. the little troop gathered on the pavement for dispersal orders. Then we all went home. For the RSP boys and girls it was an interesting exercise in the service of society.

Q.7(A) Expansion of idea: [Any 1] [05] 1) Say no to plastic Ans. In recent times it has been a strong endeavour of our government to reduce the use of plastic. Though plastic has many advantages, one major disastrous disadvantage is that it is non-biodegradable and hence poses a major threat to the environment. This waste cannot be decomposed. As a result, it keeps on piling on the earth’s surface. As a matter of fact, the amount of plastic already present on earth surpasses thousands of tonnes. Several animals consume this plastic and fall prey to various deadly diseases. Even the quality of soil is deteriorated as a result of burying of plastic material and waste. From individuals to companies, everyone seems to be doing their own bit to save the environment. If you too want to take an environment friendly step, then it is important that you say no to plastic and make the world a better place to live in.

2) Books like Friends should be few and well chosen. Ans. Well said quote! Like friends we should take extra care to choose our books too. As in day today life we come across lots of people, but very few of them are worth making friends. If you go wrong in choosing them, your life could go out of track. Similarly, a well chosen book can change your life and can leave you with many valuable experiences, which can guide you in future and a bad book would leave you exhausted. There are only few books which leave a lasting impression on our mind. If a person tries to read lot of book without selecting them he would not be able to grasp anything worth from them as he is liable to get confused. Similarly, in the case of friends, if he tries to entertain a large number of friends, he would not be able to form true and firm friendship with any of them. You can acquire something good from a book only if your spirit and the books spirit match each other. A good book, as a friend, needs your liking for it. The good books sharpen our intellect, broaden our mind, enrich our experience, widen our knowledge, uplift our morals, makes us better, nobler and happier in life. So good care must be taken to select books, like friends, even though few in number, should be of good quality.

Q.7(B) Story writing/Speech writing: [Any 1] [05] 1. Develop a story wherein the idea Be Safe Rather Than Sorry. Is the moral. Suggest a suitable title. Ans. Be Safe Rather Than Sorry Rohan had a bad habit. He listened to music all the time, even when walking on the road. “That’s a dangerous thing to do, Rohan, ‘said his friend Salman. ‘You won’t hear a car or truck coming along the road. You may have an accident.’ But did Rohan listen? No, he didn’t. Then one day, the inevitable happened. Rohan was standing at the edge of the road when a truck began to reverse. The driver sounded the horn and people nearby gave warning shouts. But did Rohan hear all this? No, he did not, for he was listening to loud music, careless of his own safety. Fortunately, Rohan escaped with just a few bruises. But whom can one blame for this accident? Rohan, of course. For isn’t our safety first our responsibility?

2. You have been selected to deliver a speech during the school assembly on “Conservation of Electricity.” Write the speech. • Load shedding • Wastage of electricity • Minimum use of electrical gadgets • Solar energy. Ans. CONSERVATION OF ELECTRICITY Good morning one and all, Respected headmistress, teachers and my dear riends. Today I would like to share my thoughts on “Conservation of Electricity.” Electricity is a wonder energy. Its discovery has been very important for us. Right from early morning when we get up till we sleep, we use one or the other electrical gadgets. We just cannot imagine our lives without electricity. And look what have we done with it? We see our homes, offices, shops and even roads, streets glaring with bulbs even during day time. Festive season is another time for the wastage of electricity. The result is severe load-shedding in some urban and mostly in rural areas. When shall we be aware of our responsibilities? As a representative of the youth, I have some suggestions- 1. Use of minimum electrical gadgets. 2. Switch off lights and fans when not required. 3. Avoid misuse of electricity during festive season. 4. At home, children should study in one room to save electricity. 5. Use compact fluorescent lamps to save electricity. 6. Switch off the TV from the mains and not by the remote. 7. Use more of solar energy. So, I conclude by taking a pledge that we shall all together conserve electricity and brighten our lives for a longer period. Thank you.

* All the Best*
