Kickboxing relatively is a modern System, syllabus of which was derived by combining several fighting techniques from a variety of more traditional disciplines, including Kung-Fu, , Thai and . There are numerous health benefits derived from learning Kickboxing, which extend into many aspects of every day life. It can be practiced on competitive or recreational level depending on the aspirations of the Kickboxer, but for sure, it is a sport designed to improve your overall health, strength and endurance.

Kickboxing is further classified into two categories, namely 'Ring Sport' and 'Tatami Sport'. These two categories have three and four disciplines and they are mentioned below :-

WAKO India Bulletin | 7 THE KICKBOXING - A Hybrid Sport With Roots In Ancient Techniques

Kickboxing is one of the youngest martial arts systems and one of the fastest growing. Kickboxing has been in existence since the early 60s. Its conception came about because of the desire of Martial Artists to test their skills against each other in a safe and controlled environment. It requires a high level of fitness both mentally and physically and is a dynamic and effective Martial Art. It incorporates kicking, punching, sweeping and throwing.

Kickboxing is practiced as a Full-, practiced in a and as a lighter version sport, practiced on Tatami. All disciplines are very entertaining and popular and attract youth and women all over the world.

Protection in the contact sports: mouth-, hand-wraps, boxing gloves, groin-guard, shin-pads, kick-boots, and helmet.

WAKO started its activities in Europe in 1976 and created the rules and regulations for the new fighting sport and acted, as the Kickboxing Federation of the World.

Kickboxing is also really good for physical fitness and Self-Defense to show skills in the safest manner.

WAKO KICKBOXING TODAY: Kickboxing is a modern contact fighting sport created on the basis of many traditional combat sports and martial arts. Kickboxing is a unique Western response to many Eastern martial arts. It can be practiced on competitive or recreational level depending on the aspirations of the kickboxer, but for sure it is a sport designed to improve your overall health, strength and endurance.

Today WAKO counts on 129 affiliated nations in the 5 continents, of which over 90 are officially recognized by either National Olympic Committee or relevant National Government Sports Authority.

A significant achievement by WAKO INDIA - Inclusion of Kickboxing Sport in the Sports Calendar of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana, INDIA - 10th October 2017. The Sports Calendar is being released by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor-MDU Prof. B. K. Punia, President Sports Council - MDU, Rohtak, Dr. Krishna Chaudhary, Director Sports - MDU, Rohtak, Dr. Devender Singh Dhull and Mr. Santosh K. Agrawal, Founder & Secretary General, Haryana Kickboxing Association & President – WAKO India Kickboxing Federation. Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak is the first University in INDIA to include the Kickboxing Sport in their official Sports Calendar.

An overwhelming response to 'WAKO international kickboxing referee seminar 2017' experienced in which 165 referees & 20 officials from all over the country (27 States) participated. An excellent gathering of 185 participants for four days starting from 3rd – 6th August, 2017.

Day One – 3rd August, 2017 : Started with registration of referee delegates and distribution of official uniforms.

Day Two – 4th August, 2017 : Inaugurated the seminar in Indian traditional way by lighting a lamp by Mr. Yury Lakhtikov, Chairman – Referee Committee, Ring Sports, WAKO (IF) & Mr. Brian Wlliam Beck, Chairman – Referee Committee – Tatami Sport in the presence all the governing council memebrs of WAKO india at 10 a.m.

An enthralling, colorful and glittering gathering of 1882 Athletes, 208 Officials from 27 States (27 teams) took part in the championship. A good number of parents are also witnessed the championship throughout seen supporting and cheering up their wards. it was an awesome championship with participation from everyone – athletes, parents, referees, judges, officials, medical team, chief minister of the state, speaker of the state, other VVIPS of Various Government departments of the state. Further it was a mega spellbinding national event for years to cherish upon! All the states affiliated to WAKO India extended their support with 100% participation. WAKO India, value and respect the support given by each member affiliate.

A big salute owe to the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh State – Dr. Raman Singh for his kind support and encouragement given to all the WAKO Indians.

Our sincere and wholehearted appreciation to “Shri Chhagan Lal Mundra - President” and “Shri Tarkesh Mishra – General Secretary” Kickboxing Association of Chhattisgarh, the hosting state, and his entire team.

Day One – 7th Sept’17 : The event began with musical form, followed by inaguration of the championship by state government speaker hon’ble Gaurishankar Agrawal. Received the state diginatory and his VVIP companions with great honour, giving red carpet welcome and a march past of all the athletes.

Day Two – 8th Sept’17 : Started with scheduled events followed by Prize Distribution by eminent personalities of the State Government and WAKO Indian officials.

Day Three – 9th Sept’17 : Continued with pending events and distributed prizes to winning athletes .

Day Four – 10th Sept’17 : Finished with all pending events and prepared the final result of the championship. Each state has fought well, giving their 100% partaking for the “Chief Minister’s Cup”.

Day 1 – 01/10/2017 : The WAKO INDIA National Kickboxing be followed while on the Ring or Tatami. It was a great learning Training Camp started with registration of Athletes and Coaches and an excellent experience for all the Athletes and Coaches from various part of the Country. who have participated in the Camp. This Training Camp was well accepted and appreciated by everyone present. WAKO India Kickboxing Team comprising of 20 members, as per the details given below, participated in the WAKO World Kickboxing Championship 2017, held at Budapest, Hungary from 3rd to 12th November ‘2017. Under the able leadership & guidance of Head of the delegation Mr. Santosh Kumar Agrawal and other officials, all have successfully participated in the event. Though not bagged any medals, all participants testified to have had a wonderful experience to witness the event in a foreign country. Having witnessed the event, all participants testified to have learned lot many techniques/things of the Kickboxing Sport to make themselves prepared to attend the forthcoming event. All have returned carrying a clear-cut optimism within their inner heart that we will win next time, and thus bring applauds and pride to the Nation.

22 | WAKO India Bulletin - A Report - WAKO India National Kickboxing Federation Cup – Cadet, Junior & Senior-Men & Women 17th to 20th January 2018 at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, India

An enthralling, colourful and glittering gathering of 1600 athletes, 150 officials from 28 States (28 Teams) took part in the championship. A good number of parents are also witnessed the championship throughout, and seen supporting and cheering up their wards, which set forth the tone for the event and added enjoyment. It was an awesome championship with participation from everyone - athletes, parents, referees, judges, officials, medical team. From 17th January to 20th January ‘18, following dignitaries were present to grace the occasion.

No doubt, it was a mega & a fascinating national event for years to cherish upon. All the member states, affiliated to WAKO India, extended their support with cent percent participation, and WAKO India value and respect the support given by each member affiliate. OPENING CEREMONY-17TH JANUARY’ 2018: The event began with musical form, followed by inauguration of the Championship and declared the event open by Mr. Anand Mohan Sharan, IAS, Chairman, WAKO India & Principal Secretary to Govt. of Haryana as Chief Guest and Mr. Kuldeep Vats, President - Delhi Olympic Assn. & Vice President, Indian Olympic Association presided over the functions; Mr. Satish Parasher, Chief Advisor – WAKO India was also present as Guest of Honour. The dignitaries, present on the occasion, were received with great honor and gave a red carpet welcome and held a march past of all the athletes.

CLOSING CEREMONY - 20TH JAN’ 2018: Finished with all pending events and final result of the championship prepared and declared. Each state fought well, giving cent per cent participation. Closing Ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Deepender Singh Hooda, Member of Parliament, Govt. of India; Mr. Surender Singh (Commando), Member of Legislative Assy., (Delhi Govt.); Mr. A.K. Lal, IRAS, Financial Advisor & CAO, Govt. of India; Mr. Deep Bhatia, Executive Vice President, Haryana State Sports Council, Govt. of Haryana & Dr. Adish C. Aggarwal, President, International Council of Jurists.

We confer our sincere and whole-hearted appreciation to Host State and its different Committees & other WAKO India officials, who labored hard and did work with perseverance under the guidance of Mr. Santosh K. Agrawal, President, WAKO India, to make this event awesome and magnificent, which is not an exaggeration.

The ‘Kickboxing Association of Delhi (KAD)’ immaculately managed the awesome conduct of the event by Mr. Harsh Dahiya, Organizing Secretary & General Secretary – KAD and all officials of KAD, who, no doubt, deserve a big applaud. Competitions were made memorable by Host State by their excellent execution of various activities.

We take liberty to extent our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Wasim Ahmad, Mr. Anand Balu, Mr. Montu Das, Mr. Anil Kalyan, Mr. Harsh Dahiya, Mr. Mahesh Kushwaha, Mr. Surinder Pal Vij, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Mr. Kartik Dakua, Mr. Santosh Mhatre, & Mr. K C Dakua for their untiring efforts put in which made the event awesome, many- many thanks again, and in the days to come also we expect similar efforts & cooperation from you all.

It is not an embellishment to say that all excellently demonstrated the sportsmanship and showcased the skills right from day one till end in kickboxing by young sports enthusiasts and we are extremely proud of their achievements & sportsman spirit. All left with a positive expression and seen looking forward to putting their new skills into practice. Not only have the athletes had a fantastic moment, but they have also been impressing stalkers depicting their vivid & vibrant styles of Kickboxing art.

24 | WAKO India Bulletin - A Report - “WAKO Serbian Open Kickboxing Cup” held at Belgrade, Serbia from 16 to 18 March 2018

A 12 member of ‘WAKO India Kickboxing Federation’ team successfully participated in the “WAKO Serbian Open Kickboxing Cup” held at Belgrade, SERBIA from 16 to 18 March 2018.

Indeed it is a matter of pride for WAKO India and our Nation that we could bag 3 medals in the event. Following are the fighters, who won the medals for the Nation:-

1. Sandeep Singh - Silver Medal 2. Simranjeet Singh - Bronze Medal 3. Kusum - Bronze Medal

Heartiest Congratulations to all the Medal Winners and best of luck for the rest for the upcoming events.

Besides the above, Dr. Sanjay Yadav attended the event as WAKO International Referee on behalf of WAKO India Kickboxing Federation.

Wishing all the participants very best and do keep the mettle in the days to come too.

President, WAKO India has taken out a few minutes from his hectic schedule and paid a visit to WAKO (IF) President’s office. It was a grand welcome by Mrs. Marijana Pelevic, PR & Media Coordinator of WAKO (IF). The kind courtesy and hospitality extended to WAKO India President by Mrs. Pelevic will be remembered for ever.

During the meeting, we have had opportunity to discuss various issues relate to promotional activities of Kickboxing in India and we got valuable advices from Mrs. Pelevic. Thanks for her kind guidance!

Though intended to meet Hon’ble President, but couldn’t due to his indisposed state. The visit concluded by wishing and praying that Hon’ble President may get a radical cure and good health soon.

Myself was invited by 'Indian Olympic Association (IOA)' for the "Send-Off Ceremony" of the Indian contingent for "XXI Commonwealth Games 2018" to Gold Coast, Australia, in which Shri Rajnath Singh, Hon'ble Union Minister of Home Affairs, Govt. of India chaired the meeting at Hotel Hyatt Regency, New Delhi.

During the Ceremony myself had the privilege to meet Indian Olympic Association's Respected officials, viz. Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra, President; Mr. Rajeev Mehta, Secretary General; Mr. Sudhanshu Mittal, Vice President; Mr. Kuldeep Vats, Vice President and Mr. Anandeshwar Pandey, Treasurer.
