Part of it through Cannington was also named Perth-Bunbury Road.Gazetted as Albany Highway from the eastern end of the Causeway to York Street, Albany on 4/10/1940. (See file 2022/39)Named after the City of Albany, located at the southern terminus of the roadComments: In June 1939 the Nomenclature Advisory Committee discussed the naming of the Albany Highway, selecting two possible names for the road, Albany Highway or Great Southern Highway. The Committee felt that Great Southern Highway was the better name because it was indicative, and would conform to a general system of highway naming which may, in future, be named from a directional point of view. The Committee wrote to all of the local governments along the road, and when all of the replies had been received the Committee recommended the name Albany Highway, and that it commence from the eastern end of the Causeway. The Minister agreed to this proposal. The Committee's indicative system was put to good use in the later naming of the Great Northern, Great Eastern and Great Southern Highway's.
