A RENAULT ‘FAMILY’ Jean Rédélé was the first-born son of Madeleine Prieur and Emile Rédélé, a Renault dealer based in Dieppe and a former mechanic of Ferenc Szisz – the first Renault Frères ‘factory driver’, winner of the Grand Prix de la Sarthe in 1906 at Le Mans and runner-up in the Grand Prix de l'A.C.F. in Dieppe in 1907. Louis Renault himself had hired Emile Rédélé right at the beginning of the 20th Century. At the end of the First World War, at the request of Louis Renault, the young Emile Rédélé settled in Dieppe and opened a Renault dealership there in rue Thiers. Two years later, Jean-Emile- Amédée Rédélé was born on May 17, 1922. After completing his studies in Normandy, Jean Rédélé took his Baccalauréat exam during the Second World War and came into contact with people as diverse as Antoine Blondin, Gérard Philipe and Edmond de Rothschild. MOTO : GIACOMO AGOSTINI Il se définit comme « Monsieur Quinze Fois », le total de ses titres mondiaux. Aujourd’hui âgé de 76 ans, ayant cessé de courir en GP moto depuis 1977, Agostini n’a pas perdu une once de gloire ni de popularité. En quatorze saisons de Grands Prix, il a établi un double record : celui des titres mondiaux, comme celui du nombre de victoires en Grand Prix : 122 en tout, 54 en catégorie 350 et 68 en catégorie reine, les 500 cm3 renommées MotoGP avec le passage en 4-temps en 2002. Agostini a disputé son premier GP en 1964 sur une 250 Morini et sa dernière course de moto en 1978 sur une 750 Yamaha, machine avec laquelle il avait remporté les 200 Miles de Daytona en 1974, lors de sa première course sur une machine de cette marque. Avec Yamaha, il a remporté le titre mondial des 350 en 1974 et celui des 500 en 1975. Les treize autres ont été le fruit de son étroite collaboration avec la prestigieuse marque italienne MV Agusta, qui a remporté 38 titres mondiaux. -

When we get started talking about our Le Mans collaboration, everything was going fast and very strong between us, as we share this Rebel DNA with RocketByz. Using the adventures of a comic book motorsports hero as an approach to understanding recent French history Sébastien Laffage-Cosniera, Noemi García-Arjonab and Christian Viviera aU-Sports Besançon, University of Franche-Comté, Besançon, France; bUFR STAPS Rennes, University of Rennes 2, Rennes, France ABSTRACT Jean Graton created a series of comic books called Michel Vaillant, and its motorsports hero bore the same name. Michel Vaillant made his first appearance in 1957 in the weekly Tintin. Young French boys who loved adventure, sports and car racing greeted this publication with great enthusiasm. We studied the first series of Michel Vaillant, composed of 16 comic books produced in the 1960s. We have departed from traditional approaches and have based our method on the analysis of the sources of Graton’s inspiration. We link these sources to the comics’ text bubbles, visual signs and iconic meanings of the drawings. Our analysis of the comics’ iconography based on the establishment of a mass culture dedicated to the automobile brings to light the existence of an urge to go beyond the limits of tradition. Our research highlights that the success of Michel Vaillant is due, in the main, to the series’ detailed knowledge of the automobile sports industry, and to the myths of speed, youth and progress that it promulgates – myths in which its young male readers could see themselves reflected and which would also prepare them for the future.
