T h is table shows for each district and the State of Manipur the area, the number of towns and villages, the number of occupied houses, and the total urban and rural population, male and female. The distric ts axe arranged in this and other tables in the order prescribed by Government. The areas given have been obtained from the District Gazetteers under the orders of Government: where the y differ from those given in 1901, the change is due to revised survey : the area shown for Naga Hills, which is the same as in 1901, is for the surveyed area only and excludes the previously unadministered territory added since 1901, the area of which is unknown. For the purpose of column 3 (number of towns) cantonments have been treated as forming part of the municipalities which they adjoin. N o t e .— Similar statistics for areas smaller than districts are contained in Provincial Table I, which is printed at the end of the Imperial Tables.
