  • Indian Hindu Festivals Observance Date in the Indian Calendar / Panchang Is Applicable for All Location in World”
Biggest misconception is “Indian Hindu festivals observance date in the Indian calendar / panchang is applicable for all location in world”. We contact our parents in India to find the festival observance dates. Some use their favorite Panchangam brought from India to find an observance date for an Indian festival. In reality observance dates from Indian Panchangam is valid only in India and is not transferrable to other locations. If the earth is flat we can use Indian calendar everywhere in the world. If the earth is flat then Sun & Moon will rise all places at the same time, and no need of time zones and hence Indian Panchangam can be used everywhere in the world but the trouble is the earth is round and the Sun does not rise at the same time, or set at the same time all over the world. Additionally, we have time zones and time differenes. Due to the time zones/differences there is another misconception that as USA/Canada and Europe is behind in time then Festival will come a day later in USA/Canada and Europe. This is absurd. One needs to learn mathematics to remove the confusion. If Seattle/Vancouver/California is 13 hours 30 minutes behind Indian Standard Time and say an event is occurring in India (For example One day International Cricket match at 8 AM in India then will it be the previous day in USA/Canada or the next day? If you think next day then it is not a live telecast. It is just a relay. To arrive the time you’ll subtract 13 hours 30 minutes from 8 AM.

Many people worship Surya because he is called as “Aarogya and Aishwarya Datha” (provider of health and wealth). Surya is worshipped early in the morning while fresh sunrays emerge. It is believed and proven that exposure to fresh sunrays will rejuvenate energy, and purify the mind & body. The Sun God travels in the north and south directions in a year. These are called Uttarayanam (when the sun is heading northwards) and Dakshinayanam (when the sun is heading southwards). The Ratha Saptami festival seeks the benevolent cosmic spread of energy and light from the Sun God. At Shiva-Vishnu Temple, Ratha Saptami is celebrated by worshipping Aditya or Sun God with Kalasa Sthapana and Shodasha Upachara puja followed by Parayanam (Chanting) of Aruna Prasnam (Surya Namaskara Mantrams), Aditya सप्ताश्व रध मा셂ढं प्रचण्डं कश्यपात्मजं Hrudayam. श्वेत पद्मधरं देवं तं सूर्यं प्रणमाम्यहं Devotees can participate in the puja and perform Surya Namaskarams. Continuing with the tradition of HCCC, we are privileged to provide you with this update. In spite of the sagging economy in the Bay Area, the enthusiasm and the support from you has not dwindled. Your donations for 2003 as of October of about $1.6 million is about the same as that for 2002. The management team is keeping the expenses within the donations received and within the approved budget to ensure that the financial health of the organization is sound. The HCCC’s financial accounts are being maintained using formal accounting programs. Auditors are being hired to carry out the external audit for 2002 and 2003. Please see elsewhere in this newsletter for the 2003 financial summary. The financial year got a good start when the 2002 management team (EC and BoD) did an excellent job of consolidating various existing loans by taking by advantage of low interest rates.
