Charles Conwell, Trey Lippe Morrison & Matt CHARLES CONWELL, TREY LIPPE MORRISON & MATT REMILLARD ADDED TO OFF-TV UNDERCARD OF SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION NEW YORK (March 7, 2018) A stellar off-TV three-fight undercard has been added to this Friday’s SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION live on SHOWTIME at 10 p.m. ET/PT from Deadwood Mountain Grand in Deadwood, S.D., and presented by DiBella Entertainment. In a scheduled six-round junior middleweight clash, undefeated 2016 United States Olympian Charles Conwell (6-0, 5 KOs) will look to continue his hot streak as a professional. Just 20 years old, Conwell returns to battle following a sensational hometown performance in Cleveland, winning a dominant six- round decision versus Roque Zapata on November 10, 2017, in his first nationally televised bout on SHOWTIME. Son of former heavyweight champion Tommy Morrison, Tulsa, Okla. knockout artist Trey Lippe Morrison (13-0, 13 KOs) is determined to forge his own path to heavyweight stardom and will compete in a six-round bout. Fully recovered from a hand injury that required surgery in April 2017, Lippe Morrison is excited about his return to the ring where the charismatic prospect has thrilled boxing fans throughout his home state of Oklahoma. Rounding out the undercard, Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard (26-1, 15 KOs), of Hartford, Conn., continues his rise in the junior lightweight division with a scheduled 10-rounder against Sonora, Mexico’s Jesus “Chuito” Valdez (22-3-1, 11 KOs). The 31-year-old Remillard has won three fights in a row since losing to world champion Mikey Garcia, most recently stopping Yardley Armenta Cruz in the fourth round, on October 28, 2017. The 25-year-old Valdez finished 2017 with two third-round knockouts in Agua Prieta, Mexico, and will be fighting for the second time in the United States. On June 30, 2017, Valdez fought a hotly contested 10-round battle against undefeated prospect Lamont Roach in Indio, Calif., losing a decision. SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION live on SHOWTIME at 10 p.m. ET/PT is headlined by a 12-round clash between undefeated 140- pound contender Regis Prograis (20-0, 17 KOs), of Houston, Texas, and former unified world champion Julius Indongo (22-1, 11 KOs), of Windhoek, Namibia, now based out of Omaha, Neb., for the interim WBC Super Lightweight World Championship. Co-featured on the telecast, undefeated 140-pound contender Ivan Baranchyk (16-0, 10 KOs), of Brooklyn, N.Y., faces former world title challenger Petr Petrov (38-5-2, 19 KOs), of Madrid, Spain. Opening the SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION telecast, undefeated heavyweight Junior Fa (13-0, 8 KOs), of Papakura, New Zealand, squares off against Craig Lewis, (14-1-1, 8 KOs), of Detroit, Mich., in an eight-round bout. Tickets, priced at $200, $80 and $60, are on sale now, and can be purchased on Ticketmaster.com or by calling (877) 907-4726. He’s got an All-Star list of victories. So they’re gonna think ‘. damn he beat all these guys?’ People are gonna know. He should be in the top 5, top 3 and stuff.” - Mike Tyson on Evander Holyfield (Chasing Tyson [3]) The 2015 documentary “Chasing Tyson” [3] describes the career of 4-time world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield. One of the central themes of this film was how due to his low-key style and humble attitude, the boxing public did not accept Holyfield as a top fighter deserving of the accolade “world heavyweight champion”. However, former Heavyweight Champion and widely accepted all-time great Mike Tyson is quoted above at the end of the film, making the case for Holyfield’s greatness. Although not particularly flashy in or outside the ring, Holyfield’s achievement in the sport of boxing may be measured in an objective way: by the list of quality boxers he has defeated. This argument is reminiscent of Google’s PageRank algorithm [2, 10]. PageRank is an algorithm that assigns to web pages a value, based on the web pages who link to it and their value, that is receiving an incoming link from a high-value website carries more value than a link from a low-level one.

  • ESPN Films' 30 for 30 to Premiere Tommy Morrison Documentary
ESPN Films’ 30 for 30 to Premiere Tommy Morrison Documentary Exclusively on the ESPN App and On-Demand ESPN Films will premiere a documentary on the ESPN App and on- demand for the first time with the next installment of the award-winning 30 for 30 series, “Tommy.” The film about the late WBO heavyweight champion Tommy Morrison will be available exclusively for streaming and on-demand audiences starting Wednesday, September 13. It will then make its broadcast premiere on Wednesday, September 27, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Co-directed by Gentry Kirby and Erin Leyden, “Tommy” examines Morrison’s remarkable rise to the spotlight, followed by a stunning, confounding, and ultimately tragic fall. He was one of the best heavyweights of his time; a handsome, charming, yet unsettled young star. Born into a troubled family in America’s heartland, Morrison’s initial emergence as a fighter was bolstered by a starring role in “Rocky V.” A few years later he beat George Foreman for the WBO heavyweight title, and seemed primed for more stardom, even in the face of blown opportunities and upset losses. But everything changed in early 1996 when he tested positive for HIV, abruptly forcing him into retirement at age 27. From there, Morrison’s life spiraled further and further downward, plagued by drug problems, jail time, and an eventual denial that he had the virus at all. “Although testing positive for HIV was a big part of Tommy’s life, we did not set out for this to be an HIV story,” said co-director Gentry Kirby.

  • Analysis of Male Boxers' Nicknames

Nicknaming of individual athletes and sports teams is a multifaceted phenomenon the analysis of which reveals numerous reasons for choosing a particular name or nickname. The practice of nicknaming has become so embedded in the concept of sport that it requires exceptional attention by those who create these labels. The goal of this research was to analyse the semantic structure of boxers’ nicknames, i.e. the possible principles of their formation. To realize the research aims 378 male boxers’ nicknames, predominantly in the English language, were collected. The nicknames were allocated to semantic categories according to the content area or areas they referred to. Counts and percentages were calculated for the nicknames in each subsample created with regard to the number of semantic categories used to create a boxer’s nickname and for the group of nicknames allocated to the miscellaneous group. Counts were calculated for all groups within each subsample. Key words: hero, association, figurative language, figures of speech 1. INTRODUCTION Are nicknames only arbitrary formations of little account or are they coinages contrived meticulously and with a lot of prowess? Skipper (1989, 103) alleges that nicknames “often serve as a miniature character sketch”. When discussing nicknames in baseball, Gmelch (2006, 129) elucidates that sobriquets frequently communicate something about the players using them, e.g.

INTRODUCTION Boxing is a dangerous sport.1 This was tragically illustrated twice within three months in 2005 when both Martin Sanchez and Leavander Johnson died after suffering injuries during professional boxing matches.2 Sanchez died shortly after suffering a brain bleed during a fight with Rustam Nugaev; Johnson, who also received a fatal brain injury, died five days after his fight with Jesus Chavez.3 While boxing is undoubtedly dangerous,4 extensive regulations covering boxer safety have supposedly made the sport safer.5 Despite the presence of these regulations, the circumstances surrounding the recent deaths of Sanchez and Johnson, especially the death of Sanchez, have led many to believe that the current safety regulations are not being properly enforced.6 For example, one of these regulations requires each boxer to undergo a pre- fight physical examination.7 However, there is evidence that 1 For a history of boxer injuries and legislative responses, see Sen.

The District Court held: “We wouldn’t be having this dis- cussion if the test was specific for the existence of the virus or not that’s obviously why there’s even the pos- sibility of a claim, the tests didn’t test for the virus.” Respondents QUEST then presented more of their ‘clinical laboratory reports’, now as a diagnosis and for treatment between 1996 and 2013, invoking the ‘con- tinuous course of treatment doctrine’ as it relates to the QUEST ‘1996 laboratory report’ used to end TOMMY’s boxing career.
