End action and dialogue:

After Min has said farewell to Jaz, who is off to Europe, and she’s gone over to put the word on Stanley, Jaz’s ex-boyfriend about their having a relationship, we hear over black “and the winner is Sideney” (the Olympic games announcement, with cheering crowd) … then we return to Min sitting on the couch talking direct to camera in the way the film started.

Min: Funny how things can change, hey? All of a sudden I found myself to be a woman in demand …

(A title identifies her as “Min Rogers - 24”)

…Michael was calling me on a regular basis …

(Title “smoker…”) …with offers of nights on the town …even David was exhibiting a peculiar interest in me that only those unattainable can attract. In hindsight, my up-front approach with Stanley could only be regarded as a resounding success …In no time we’d managed to forge a mutually beneficial relationship based solely on each other’s sexual gratification …we both agreed there’d be no ties, no commitments, and getting involved emotionally would only get in the way of each of us reaching unheard-of heights of arousal and satisfaction …one night we even went for it in Nikki. We must have done pretty well because …

(Cutaway to steamed up rocking car ‘Nikki’ at night) …

…about half-way through, the hazard lights came on …and I’ve never even done yoga …

(More moans as the image fades to black and comes up on Min driving, now in voice over).

Min (v/o): Naturally it wasn’t long before we both found ourselves yearning for each other outside of the sex act… and …

(Stanley and Min cooking)

… to be honest, I fell for him hook line and sinker... (Iris into them kissing)

… after all, he was kind and intelligent …and caring and well, great in the sack …

(Min going to her letterbox and getting out letters)

…I’ve still got no idea what Jaz was on about. Speaking of Jaz, at first she wrote regularly from some of the world’s more exotic locations …you know, Earl’s Court, Blackpool, Tufnell Green …

(Min is reading a letter from Jaz with a smile as she heads back inside)

…but time and distance took its toll as it does, and eventually the letters slowed to a reluctant trickle …last I heard she’d shacked up with some young Italian builder’s labourer from Five Dock …

(Min sitting on the verandah looking at photos of Jaz and her new boyfriend)

…who’d found seasonal work with a Nordic deodorant manufacturer somewhere in the Australian Alps. I thought it best not to tell her about Stanley and I …besides if …

(Min is now inside eating and still reading)

….she was right about Meris (phonetic spelling) Mastroianni’s mouth, she’d probably already heard from some gregarious Belgian backpacker working the triple chair …

(The camera begins a gentle move in on a photo of Jaz and Min pinned by magnet to the fridge door)

… I figure that on average we all probably work our way through two, maybe three best friends in a lifetime … but well despite the obvious hurdles, I reckon Jaz and I might just have what it takes to go the distance…we can only try, hey!?

(A mobile phone rings and Min answers it as she comes out her front door).

Min: Hey mum, what’s doin’? … Yeah … You’re kidding … (Min checks her mail box) …well how’s Dad? Are you serious, that’s great?! God, you must be relieved he can insert them himself now …sure …

(Min gets out a cigarette)

.. hey, did you end up finding that thermometer you thought you left up his …

(She lights up)

… yeah? Brilliant! …What? …Yeah, yeah …I’m just gunna finish the pack I’m on now and then that’s it … yes, way … mum I keep telling you it’s no big deal …

(As she walks away from her house)

…it’s not as if I’m one of these addictive types or anything …besides, Patricia Thornton’s come up with this organic arm patch thing which she reckons will negate just about all the horrors of nicotine withdrawal …

(Min begins to disappear down the road, the Anzac bridge in the distance) … not that I need it, you understand …but, well she wants to test it out and I thought ‘shit, how often does a chance come up to play a significant role in the advance of medical science…’ That’s right, exactly! …

(By now Min has disappeared off screen - a couple of out of focus birds come into frame)

…I’ll be like a sort of, I don’t know, a human guinea pig, I guess …

A title “THE END” comes up, and the image fades to black.

End music swells up and as Nikki drives across the Anzac bridge, there’s another title “You have been watching …”, followed by titles introducing the leading players, followed by the end roller ...

THE END You Have Been Watching ...

For Judy Robinson (& Mins everywhere ...)

© 1998 Village Roadshow Pictures Pty Ltd and Very Chancy Material Pty Ltd Towards the end of the film, as You Am I’s song Purple Sneakers has run its course, dialogue between the two leads plays over the credits rolller:

Min: She’s not that beautiful. Jaz: What? Min: Claudia Schiffer. She’s just not that beautiful. Jaz: Yeah, right. Min: Well, alright, I admit she is beautiful, but there’s no way you’d call her perfect. I mean, look at her top lip, it’s so …so unformed … and there’s bound to be other irregularities …I bet anything if you saw her first thing in the morning, you know like after a really hard night out, I bet she’d look like shit. Jaz: Just like we do. Min: I doubt it …oh bullshit, she reckons she doesn’t have to watch what she eats. Jaz: Who doesn’t? Min: Earth to Jaz! Claudia Schiffer! Jaz: Why are you so hung up on her all of a sudden? Min: Who says I’m hung up? Jaz: Eh Min, what you have to realise is that supermodels aren’t like us! They’re just like these one-off, long-legged fuckin’ freaks of nature, they’ve got a totally different gene pool.

(The roller is temporary interrupted, and we see Min with mud pack face and towel on head reading a magazine with an ad for Obsession on the back cover. Jaz is lying next to her, also with towel, and with cucumber slices over her eyes, as seen earlier in the film).

Min: So why couldn’t I’ve be born a freak? Jaz: Oh don’t worry honey, you were …

(The image freezes on Min as she turns to look at Jaz, and then the two final copyright notices come up on screen).
