Pga Tour Network on Xm Satellite Radio Tees Off June 9 with Live, Coast-To-Coast Broadcast of Booz Allen Classic NEWS RELEASE PGA TOUR NETWORK ON XM SATELLITE RADIO TEES OFF JUNE 9 WITH LIVE, COAST-TO-COAST BROADCAST OF BOOZ ALLEN CLASSIC 6/6/2005 Washington D.C., June 06, 2005 -- XM Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: XMSR), the PGA TOUR, and Pure Golf today announced that the PGA TOUR Network (XM Channel 146) will debut June 9 with live coverage of the Booz Allen Classic at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. The upcoming tournament also marks the first time PGA TOUR galleries will be able to rent or purchase portable XM radios so they can hear live, comprehensive coverage of the action throughout the course. XM, the nation's leading satellite radio company with more than four million subscribers, is launching the PGA TOUR Network in partnership with Pure Golf, the new programming company that will provide listeners in-depth coverage of PGA TOUR events, news, interviews, and call-in programs. "The PGA TOUR Network on XM is a revolutionary way for true golf fans to experience their favorite sport," said Davis Love III, PGA TOUR member and winner of 18 TOUR titles. The flagship broadcast of the PGA TOUR Network will be Pure Golf's live tournament coverage of PGA TOUR events. Broadcasts will originate from the tournament site and be carried on XM Channel 146 Thursday through Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern time. Broadcasts will keep the listener up-to-date on the latest leaderboard and on-course action, while delivering a behind-the-scenes look into the PGA TOUR, tournaments and players through compelling interviews and features. The channel will also broadcast a Pure Golf morning talk show Monday though Friday. The show will air 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in each time zone. It will review and analyze the latest happenings in and around the world of golf, as well as features and live phone calls from golf personalities and listeners. 1 The PGA TOUR Network features an outstanding lineup of on-air talent, including veteran broadcaster Jim Kelly, who brings more than 30 years of award-winning golf broadcasting experience with CBS, ESPN, NBC and the Golf Channel to XM. Kelly will serve as booth host/commentator with analyst Phil Tataurangi, a PGA TOUR member since 1994 and the winner of the 2002 Invensys Classic of Las Vegas. Joining Kelly and Tataurangi are Mark Carnevale, recognized by the PGA TOUR and Golf Digest as the 1992 "Rookie of the Year," a veteran of some 200 PGA TOUR events, and the champion of the 1992 Chattanooga Classic; Chip Thomson, one of America's most respected golf instructors; and Bob Bubka, the renowned broadcaster known as "the voice of golf" for his coverage on US and European media outlets. Congressional opened in 1924 and was founded by former Presidents of the United States, Coolidge, Taft, Hoover, Wilson and Harding. On May 23, 1924, its doors opened to more than 7,000 persons of national and local prominence invited to the Gala Opening.     COLLEGE OF THE HOLY CROSS Clutch Strokes: Performance Under Pressure in Golf Jeffrey Paadre This paper examines 10 years worth of PGA Tour Tournament data in order to examine whether or not clutch performance exists during the final round of a tournament. After controlling scores for differences in course difficulty, the paper finds no evidence of tangible clutch performance. The authors find that the perception of clutch performance is more likely attributable to talent differential between golfers. Assuming a normal distribution of golfer talent, it is possible that Tiger Woods can outshoot his opponents on the final day of a tournament as well as lose his lead to his competitors. Motivation and Literature In professional sports, heroes can be created through the concept of clutch performance. The perception of clutch performance occurs when an athlete raises his or her performance to an extraordinary level during the most important moments of a sporting event. Athletes such as David Ortiz and Adam Vinatieri have been immortalized as legends due to their consistent ability to help their teams win baseball and football games during important games where the outcome was hanging in the balance. Conversely Bill Buckner and Scott Norwood are amongst the unfortunate athletes burdened with reputations as choke artists based on their inability to perform well when their teams needed a high performance the most. One of the challenges that accompanies examining performance under pressure lies within trying to define which performances constitute clutch performance. For example, in 2005 John Henry, the owner of the Boston Red Sox, presented David Ortiz with a plaque inscribed “David Ortiz: The Greatest Clutch Hitter in the History of the Boston Red Sox”.

As the PGA TOUR begins another great season, we can truly state that the image and competitive spirit of our players has led to the healthiest state in the history of our organization. The Sports Business Journal recently reaffirmed this when it published the “2003 League Report Card,” a survey of corporate sponsors’ opinions of their investment in sports properties. The PGA TOUR ranked first in overall satisfaction among the 16 major sports. This is important as we continue to raise the exposure of our tournaments, provide significant value to our sponsors and showcase the widespread excellence of our athletes. The competition level on the PGA TOUR in 2003 was at an all-time high, with season-ending honors going down to the wire. Tiger Woods recorded a season-high five victories and the lowest stroke average on TOUR and garnered a fifth consecutive Player of the Year honor. Vijay Singh won four times and captured his first money title. Davis Love III won a career-high four times, includ- ing THE PLAYERS Championship, making 2003 the first time in 30 years where three players won four or more times in a season. However, the depth of the TOUR was never more evident. Eleven players age 40 or older combined to capture 15 PGA TOUR titles.
