The Singpoli Classics Series season commences on October 8th through April 29th with both 2pm and 8pm performances at Pasadena’s historic Ambassador Auditorium. The season also includes the annually sold out Holiday Candlelight Concert on December 17, 2016 with both 4pm and 7pm performances at All Saints Church. The Pasadena Symphony further cements its position as the area’s premiere destination for live symphonic music with an eye for long term stability in its artistic leaders by renewing the contracts of both Music Director David Lockington and Principal Guest Conductor Nicholas McGegan through 2019. Jordi Savall et ses musiciens réinterprètent le Chant de la Sibylle, prophétesse de la Grèce antique, qui, à l’aube du christianisme, fut revisité par les Pères de l’Église, notamment saint Augustin. L’une des branches de cette antique tradition tant de fois ressuscitée passa par la péninsule Ibérique : le Chant de la Sibylle fit partie du cérémonial des cathédrales espagnoles aux XVe et XVIe siècles. Haendel composa en 1741 son oratorio le plus célèbre, le monumental Messie. Cette vaste fresque qui retrace la vie du Christ est une véritable peinture sonore, où l’orchestre tremble littéralement lorsque Dieu ébranle le monde, où la Nativité est une pastorale à la Corelli, tandis que la majesté de la fugue traduit l’idée d’éternité dans l’Hallelujah. Benjamin Bagby et les musiciens de Sequentia, quant à eux, ressuscitent la légende islandaise de l’Edda consignée dans un manuscrit du XIIIe siècle, le Codex Regius.
