D.O. Dominio De Valdepusa
-D.O. Dominio de Valdepusa Dominio de Valdepusa, located in the Toledo municipality of Malpica de Tajo, has belonged to Carlos Falcó’s, the Marques de Griñón’s, family since 1292. In 2002 this property was granted the first ‘pago’ Denomination of Origin by the Spanish State. In 2003 the European Union convalidated this recognition, making Dominio de Valdepusa the first Spanish estate to receive a recognition only previously obtained by legendary vineyards such as Romanée Conti (Burgundy) or Sassicaia (Toscana). Dominio de Valdepusa is a unique vineyard occupying 52ha, including the original vineyard of (14 ha) Cabernet Sauvignon which planted in 1974. Since 1991, this has been progressively increased with Syrah and Petit Verdot varieties, both pioneers in Spain, and Graciano. The main house and winery of Dominio de Valdepusa are set in historical 18th century buildings. The old Casa de Labor (Workhouse) acts as a visit centre today, includes an avant-garde design kitchen, 4 dining rooms, and tasting rooms with a joint capacity of up to 120 people, likewise Dominio management offices. The central courtyard of classic Toledan architecture like the rest of the winery houses a grape press inaugurated by the Prince of Asturias and Duke and Duchess of Lugo, where visitors can experience traditional grape pressing in the grape-picking season. The vineyard landscape includes large iberian oaks (Quercus Ilex); its paths are lined with cypresses, rosebushes and rows of lavender. Between the house and winery a botanic garden has been planted since 2000 with over 300 species, mainly Mediterranean of origin. Their current production of 350,000 bottles, advised by the prestigious Bordeaux oenologist Michel Rolland, centres exclusively on red wines produced for grapes from our own vineyards. -

Barcelona Is Much More
DISCOVER WINE TOURISM BARCELONA IS MUCH MORE DISCOVER THE JOYS OF WINE TOURISM Although it may seem a modern form of tourism, wine tourism has actually been popular in the Barcelona regions for some time. Back in the early 20th century, our grandparents visited the cellers in a covered trap that ran between the train station and the winery. Another popular custom was to go to a winery on public holidays, where, if you bought something, they would let you cook your own food. That's a thing of the past now and many wineries cater for organised tours, not just to promote their products, but also to familiarise visitors with the world of wine and cava. Some establishments, country houses and winery hotels offer programmes that enable visitors to join in with the work, enjoy wine therapy treatments and take part in tastings and pairings with wine as the star. And for those who like to keep moving, wine tourism offers the chance to do some hiking or cycling on signposted paths through vineyards a stone's throw from Barcelona. Thanks to all this, Barcelona is much more: a destination full of surprises! If you are a lover of fine wine or simply curious about them, you should know that Barcelona has five designations of origin: Penedès, Alella, Pla de Bages, Catalunya and Cava. Each of them produces high- quality wine and cava. At some wineries quality wine is coupled with beautiful PHOTOGRAPHS: architecture because they are Caves Codorníu, Sant Sadurní d’Anoia either Art Nouveau buildings Caves Codorníu, Sant Sadurní d’Anoia from the early 20th Century Vineyards, Vilassar de Dalt or avant-garde structures Mas de Sant Iscle, Sant Fruitós de Bages Caves Freixenet, Sant Sadurní d’Anoia designed by prestigious Vineyards, El Penedès architects. -

Our wines are stored in our wine cellar in a climate controlled environment at 55° Fahrenheit with 70% humidity. The Columbia Restaurant’s wine list represents 4th and 5th generation, owner and operators, Richard and Andrea Gonzmart’s lifetime involvement in their family’s business. Their passion for providing guests the best wines from Spain, as well as their personal favorites from California, are reflected in every selection. They believe wines should be affordable and represent great value. 377 Final 2003/0140
COMMISSION OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES Brussels, 24.6.2003 COM (2003) 377 final 2003/0140 (ACC) Proposal for a COUNCIL DECISION on the conclusion of an agreement between the European Community and Canada on trade in wines and spirit drinks (presented by the Commission) EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM 1. This agreement between Canada and the European Community is the result of bilateral negotiations which took place from 7 November 2001 to 24 April 2003 on the basis of a negotiating mandate adopted by the Council on 1 August 2001 (Doc. 11170/01). The agreement comprises arrangements for the reciprocal trade in wines and spirit drinks with a view to creating favourable conditions for its harmonious development. 2. The agreement specifies oenological practices which may be used by producers of wine exported to the other Party, as well as a procedure for accepting new oenological practices. The Community's simplified system of certification will be applied to imported wines originating in Canada. Canada will not introduce import certification for Community wines and will simplify the extent of such testing requirements as are currently applied by provinces, within a year of entry into force. Production standards are agreed for wine made from grapes frozen on the vine. Concerning production standards for spirit drinks, the agreement provides that Canada will adhere to Community standards for its exports of whisky to the Community. 3. Procedures whereby geographical indications relating to wines and spirit drinks of either Party may be protected in the territory of the other Party are agreed. The current "generic" status in Canada of 21 wine names will be ended by the following dates: 31 December 2013 for Chablis, Champagne, Port and Porto, and Sherry; 31 December 2008 for Bourgogne and Burgundy, Rhin and Rhine, and Sauterne and Sauternes; the date of entry into force of the agreement for Bordeaux, Chianti, Claret, Madeira, Malaga, Marsala, Medoc and Médoc, and Mosel and Moselle. -
Premium Wine Club
PREMIUM WINE CLUB March 2020 2015 Portal del Priorat Gotes Blanques Priorat, Spain Tiny and entirely composed of craggy, jagged and deeply terraced vineyards, Priorat is a Catalan wine-producing region that was virtually abandoned until the early 1990s. Its renaissance came with the arrival of one man, René Barbier, who recognized the region’s forgotten potential. He banded with five friends to create five “Clos” in the village of Gratallops. Their aim was to revive some of Priorat’s ancient Carignan vines, as well as to plant new—mainly French—varieties. These winemakers were technically skilled, well-trained and locally inspired; not surprisingly, their results were a far cry from the few rustic and overly fermented wines already produced. This movement escalated Priorat’s popularity for a few reasons. Its new wines were modern and made with well-recognized varieties, namely old Carignan and Grenache blended with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. When the demand arrived, scarcity commanded higher prices and as the region discovered its new acclaim, investors came running from near and far. Within ten years, the area under vine practi- cally doubled. One of Catalonia’s emerging superstars, Alfredo Arribas was a nationally renowned architect before shifting his focus to farming and winemaking fifteen years ago. He is known for making some of the most elegant wines in Priorat and Montsant. Alfredo Arribas’ Portal del Priorat estate is composed of about 150 acres in Priorat and 50 acres in Southern Montsant. Many of these vines are on original rootstock and pushing 100 years in age. Gotes translates to “droplets” in Catalan, and as you would expect, like droplets, these wines are all about freshness.
