Report on Power Sector of the Kingdom of Cambodia for the Year 2006 Electricity Authority of Cambodia ELECTRICITY AUTHORITY OF CAMBODIA REPORT ON POWER SECTOR OF THE KINGDOM OF CAMBODIA FOR THE YEAR 2006 Compiled by EAC July, 2007 Report on Power Sector for the Year 2006 Electricity Authority of Cambodia Preface The third Annual Report on Power Sector of the Kingdom of Cambodia is compiled from informations received from the licensees. This report is for dissemination to the Royal Government, institutions, investors and public desirous to know about the present situation of the power sector of the Kingdom of Cambodia. This report is compiled from information collected by EAC and information taken from licensees’ annual summary report on their activities during last year. Till the end of year 2006, 144 licensed electricity service providers share about 95% of power market in the kingdom of Cambodia. Among them there are EDC, 28 private companies and one provincial electricity unit; who manage the service well, and keep their operational records to the required level of quality. The rest of licensees, except a few, cannot manage their operation at the required level, causing many inaccuracies in their data record. However as the power market share of this group of licensees is small (less than 2%); this will not materially affect the overall accuracy of the data furnished in this report. However, EAC gives special attention to the collection of the data done by it from these licensees and trains them to record the required data correctly as the data is important in assessing the real situation of rural electrification. This annual report on power sector is presented in the same format as the 2005 report. In the future reports, EAC will try to provide additional information such as financial information or information on rural electrification and development of power sector in the Kingdom of Cambodia. Any comments or suggestions from Royal Government, instutions, investors or public are welcome and will be considered by EAC to publish more useful reports in future reflecting the actual situation of the sector. EAC expects that this report will be a valuable document for the information on the power sector of the Kingdom of Cambodia.     FOREWORD Along with the economic recovery of advanced economies and emerging market economies, Cambodia still maintained the economic growth rate with an average of 6.9 percent in 2017. The growth momentum is projected to be at this similar level in the medium term. The key sectors that play crucial roles in supporting the economy are tourism, garments, construction, and agriculture, which had better performance relatively to previous year, and the export of other industrial products has also contributed to this growth. Such achievement cannot be attained without three main factors such as peace and political stability, investment and tourism policies, and macroeconomic stability, which are in line with the Royal Government’s Rectangular Strategy Phase III under the wise leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The economic improvement and the financial stability have motivated local and international investors to expand their business in the banking sector, which is strong and inclusive. This circumstance pushes the banking sector to play a more crucial role in the economy through providing more efficient and broader financial services. The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), as the supervisory authority, has continuously focused on the effectiveness of supervision and the robustness of the banking system to be in consistent with the current development of the banking industry and the reform of the international supervision standards. In addition to the rule-based, risk-based, and forward-looking supervision, the NBC also pays attention in enhancing regulations through issuing Prakas on Liquidity Coverage Ratio and several other Prakas in accordance with the Basel Principles.

    mCÄmNÐlÉkßrkm<úCa DC-Cam’s Promoting Accountability Project A Field Trip’s Report in Veal Veng District, Pursat Province May 18-24, 2011 By Long Dany General Description and Brief History of Districts After the integration of the Khmer Rouge forces by the Cambodian government in 1996, Veal Veng was created as a district in Pursat province. Previously, Veal Veng had been one of the communes included within the Kravanh district. Veal Veng is approximately 120 kilometers from Pursat, and it can be reached by Road Number 56 which links Pursat and Veal Veng across the Kavanh district. The road between Pursat and Kravanh district is paved and smooth, but the road from the Kravanh district to Veal Veng is bumpy and rough. It is a gravel paved road with several old and ailing bridges. The Veal Veng district town is located 75 kilometers from the Thai border of the Trat province. The border checkpoint is called Thma Da. Nowadays, the authorities of both countries allow their citizens to cross the border only on Saturdays. Approximately 60 kilometers south of the Veal Veng district is the O Ta Som commune, where a Chinese company is building a hydroelectric power station. O Ta Som is just about 40 kilometers from the Koh Kong provincial town. Veal Veng comprises of five communes: Pramoy, Anlong Reap, O Ta Som, Kra Peu Pi, and Thma Da. Veal Veng has a population of 13,822 people—3,197 families. At the present time, the government is drafting a decree to create more communes and villages for Veal Veng because of its huge space of land.

As part of this project, two field surveys of solanaceous crops were conducted in November 2014 and 2015 in western and eastern Cambodia, respectively. In November 2016, we conducted a third field survey in northern Cambodia, in Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, Oddar Meanchey, and Preah Vihear provinces. We collected 46 chili pepper fruit samples from markets and farmer yards, including 13 Capsicum annuum and 33 Capsicum frutescens fruits. Harvested seeds were evenly transferred to the CARDI and the NARO gene banks. With addition of more HV transmission system and MV sub-transmission system, more and more licensees are getting connected to the grid supply. This has resulted in improvement in the quality of supply to more consumers. By end of 2012, more than 91% of the consumers are connected to the grid system. More licensees are now supplying electricity for 24 hours a day. The grid supply has reduced the cost of supply and consequently the tariff for supply to consumers. Due to lower cost and other measures taken by Royal Government of Cambodia, in 2012 there has been a substantial increase in the number of consumers availing electricity supply.
