BEVEZETÉS A WHO legfrissebb adatai szerint [1] a rákbetegség világszerte a második leggyakoribb halálozási ok. A 2018-as becslések szerint a betegség 9,6 millió ember haláláért volt felelős, amely azt jelenti, hogy 6 elhunyt közül 1 rákbetegségben vesztette életét. A rákbetegség kialakulásának oka a normál sejtek tumorsejtekké válása. Ez többlépcsős folyamat, amely általában a rákbetegséget megelőző léziókból fejlődik rosszindulatú daganattá. Ezek a változások az egyén genetikai faktorainak és külső hatások kölcsönhatásának együttes eredményei. Ezek a külső hatások lehetnek fizikaiak (UV, ionizáló sugárzás), kémiaiak (pl. azbeszt, dohányfüstben lévő karcinogének, aflatoxin, arzén), valamint biológiaiak (vírusfertőzések, pl. HPV, hepatitis B, Epstein– Barr-vírus; baktériumok, paraziták). A rákbetegség megelőzése, gyógyítása igen összetett és nehéz feladat, hiszen a közhiedelmekkel ellentétben a rákbetegség nem egy egyedi, homogén kór, hanem betegségek nagy csoportja, amely a test bármely részét érintheti. A betegségek közös, határozott jellemzője a tumorsejtek kialakulása, amelyek szaporodási sebessége megha- ladja a természetes sejtszaporodás mértékét, ezenkívül áttétek útján átterjedhet több szervre is. Gyógyítása egyedi, adott ráktípusra kialakított terápiát igényel. Mindemellett a kezelés szempontjából nagyon fontos a rákbetegség megfelelő időben történő diagnosztizálása, valamint kezelésének megkezdése, amely jelentősen meghosszab- bíthatja, vagy akár meg is mentheti a betegek életét, ezáltal a szűrővizsgálatok kulcsfontosságúak a megfelelő terápia kidolgozásában. Jelenleg kétféle kezelési stratégia létezik. Az enyhítő kezelés a kései, illetve végső stádiumban lévő ráktípusok esetén fontos, amelynek célja a rákbetegséggel

  • "National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1996 National Summary."
Intro 1996 National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands The Fish and Wildlife Service has prepared a National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1996 National Summary (1996 National List). The 1996 National List is a draft revision of the National List of Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1988 National Summary (Reed 1988) (1988 National List). The 1996 National List is provided to encourage additional public review and comments on the draft regional wetland indicator assignments. The 1996 National List reflects a significant amount of new information that has become available since 1988 on the wetland affinity of vascular plants. This new information has resulted from the extensive use of the 1988 National List in the field by individuals involved in wetland and other resource inventories, wetland identification and delineation, and wetland research. Interim Regional Interagency Review Panel (Regional Panel) changes in indicator status as well as additions and deletions to the 1988 National List were documented in Regional supplements. The National List was originally developed as an appendix to the Classification of Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the United States (Cowardin et al.1979) to aid in the consistent application of this classification system for wetlands in the field.. The 1996 National List also was developed to aid in determining the presence of hydrophytic vegetation in the Clean Water Act Section 404 wetland regulatory program and in the implementation of the swampbuster provisions of the Food Security Act. While not required by law or regulation, the Fish and Wildlife Service is making the 1996 National List available for review and comment.

ATOLL RESEARCH BULLETIN NO. 503 THE VASCULAR PLANTS OF MAJURO ATOLL, REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS BY NANCY VANDER VELDE ISSUED BY NATIONAL MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S.A. AUGUST 2003 Uliga Figure 1. Majuro Atoll THE VASCULAR PLANTS OF MAJURO ATOLL, REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS ABSTRACT Majuro Atoll has been a center of activity for the Marshall Islands since 1944 and is now the major population center and port of entry for the country. Previous to the accompanying study, no thorough documentation has been made of the vascular plants of Majuro Atoll. There were only reports that were either part of much larger discussions on the entire Micronesian region or the Marshall Islands as a whole, and were of a very limited scope. Previous reports by Fosberg, Sachet & Oliver (1979, 1982, 1987) presented only 115 vascular plants on Majuro Atoll. In this study, 563 vascular plants have been recorded on Majuro. INTRODUCTION The accompanying report presents a complete flora of Majuro Atoll, which has never been done before. It includes a listing of all species, notation as to origin (i.e. indigenous, aboriginal introduction, recent introduction), as well as the original range of each. The major synonyms are also listed. For almost all, English common names are presented. Marshallese names are given, where these were found, and spelled according to the current spelling system, aside from limitations in diacritic markings. A brief notation of location is given for many of the species. The entire list of 563 plants is provided to give the people a means of gaining a better understanding of the nature of the plants of Majuro Atoll.

Within this high-energy zone, Federally Listed Species in S. FL: 16 there are a number of daily, naturally occurring events such as: wave action, sand burial, and salt spray. Closest to the State Listed Species in S. FL: 50 coast, the upper beach is regularly disturbed by waves of high tides or storms and regularly recolonized by driftline Beach dune/coastal strand. annuals and trailing perennials such as railroad vine Original photograph by Ann Johnson. (Ipomoea pes-caprae). Above the reach of annual wave action is the foredune, built by coarse, rhizomatous grasses; primarily sea oats (Uniola paniculata), that thrive under constant burial from sand blown off the beach. Beyond the zone of constant sand burial are the dwarfed trees and shrubs of the coastal strand. The species growing in this zone are kept at a low stature by salt spray, which kills the upward-growing leader shoots. Species composition within the coastal strand communities that are located on the Gulf and Atlantic coasts differ. These differences need to be taken into account prior to restoration plantings. Maritime hammocks are low forests of evergreen broadleaved trees found inland from coastal strand communities on the Atlantic coast and from coastal grassland communities on the Gulf coast. The canopy may be composed of trees with either temperate affinities (Quercus virginiana, Sabal palmetto, Persea borbonia) or (usually on more calcareous substrates) of trees with tropical affinities (Bursera simarouba, Ficus aurea, Coccoloba uvifera).

Journal of Coastal Research Fort Lauderdale, Florida Vascular Plant Species Diversity on Two Barrier Islands in Southwest Florida Stanley R. Herwitz' and Richard P. Wunderlin' "Graduate School of Geography 'Department of Biology Clark University University of South Florida Worcester, MA 01610, USA Tampa, FL 33620, USA ABSTRACT _ HERWITZ, S.R. and WUNDERLIN, R.P., 1990. Vascular plant species diversity on two barrier islands in southwest Florida. Journal cfCoaetal Research, 6(2), 311-322. Fort Lauderdale <Flor ida). ISSN 0749-0208. The equilibrium theory of island biogeography was examined in relation to the indigenous vas cular floras of two barrier islands of different size and distance from the southwest Florida main land. On Cayo-Costa Island, which has a land area of 5.6 km 2 and is located 12.8 km from the mainland, 261 species were identified. On Sanibel Island, which has a land area of 43.6 km 2 and is located 3.2 km from the mainland, an inventory in the mid-1950's identified 266 species. The similar number of species, despite the differences in island area and distance from the main land, was attributed to the incompleteness of the inventory of Sanibel in the 1950's. An inven tory of Sanibel from 1965 to 1985 identified 432 native species. This almost two-fold difference in the number of species on Sanibel as compared with Cayo-Costa is more consistent with equi librium theory which predicts a significantly greater number of species on a larger island located closer to the mainland. However, comparison of the species-area relations ofCayo-Costa and Sanibel with other studies of island floras suggests that Sanibel should have had even more species.

ISSN 2226-3063 e-ISSN 2227-9555 Modern Phytomorphology 15: 62–64, 2021 RESEARCH ARTICLE Vascular anatomy and morphology of the flower of Hymenocallis latifolia (Mill.) Roem. (Amaryllidaceae) O. Fishchuk 1 Lesia Ukrainka Volyn National University, Pr. Voli. 13, Lutsk, 43025, Ukraine; * [email protected] Received: 10.05.2021 | Accepted: 20.03.2021 | Published: 31.05.2021 Abstract The vascular anatomy and morphology structure of the flower of the Hymenocallis latifolia were studied. New morphological features in particular, vertical zonality of the gynoecium and vascular anatomy of the flower are not taken into account in the taxonomy of the family Amaryllidaceae. 10 flowers of Hymenocallis latifolia were sectioned using standard methods of Paraplast embedding and serial sectioning at 20 mkm thickness. Sections were stained with Safranin and Astra Blau and mounted in Eukitt. We investigated the presence of two vertical zones in the Hymenocallis latifolia gynoecium: symplicate and hemisymplicate. The micromorphology and vascular flower anatomy were described by using flowers transverse sections. Hymenocallis latifolia peduncle has 41 vascular bundles. The paired ventral bundles of the carpel supplied ovules. Above the locules, the ventral bundles of the carpel merge with the dorsal and septal vascular bundles, forming dorsal veins. Traces of dorsal vascular bundles of carpel are five-bundles, traces of septal bundles of carpel are three-bundles. Traces of outer tepals are thirteen-bundles, traces of inner tepals are nine-bundles. Traces of stamens are single-bundle. The new data helped to deepen the knowledge about the morphology and vascular anatomy features of Hymenocallis latifolia flowers and will help to compare the obtained morphological and anatomical features with the features studied earlier for members of the family Amaryllidaceae for further using them in taxonomy.

Minor Physics (Brock University). SUPERVISOR: Professor James McNulty. PAGES xvii, 181. ii M. Sc. Thesis – J.R. Scattolon; McMaster University – Chemical Biology Lay Abstract This thesis is primarily driven towards the development of four antiviral lycorane structural type alkaloids, and an analogue synthesized via a copper-cocatalyzed Sonogashira reaction, utilizing a labile phenol-derived sulfonated hydroxyl group in its coupling towards an alkyne tagged structure. This method provides easy access for a variety of compounds without a fluorescent tag, taking steps forward in elucidating how the Amaryllidaceae alkaloids are delivering their biological effects. The densely substituted ring-C was obtained via an asymmetric organocatalytic [3+3] sequence for the assembly of the aminocyclitol core and is described. This sequence has provided effective regio, diastereo, and enantioselective access to five unnatural products. Preparation of the precursors were prepared using a Wittig methodology previous reported by the McNulty group that has been used in many syntheses for various Amaryllidaceae alkaloids.
