PRESIDENTS REPORT

The 2015-16 season was another successful season for the Dragons finishing fifth in the Junior Club Championship and winning a number of premierships. Congratulations to the Junior and Senior premiers - 10A’s, 10C’s and C2’s. Commiserations to all the runners up – the 16A’s, B2’s, B5’s and B6’s teams who gave their all in the finals.

Team numbers still continue to be strong. We fielded 17 junior teams and 8 senior teams this season. Once again it was great seeing a number of girls playing for the club’s junior teams. We would like to encourage more girls playing for our great club in the future. Recruitment of U8 and U10 players for next season will be a priority for us as they are the future of the club.

Thank you to all the parents who helped out with the teams during the season whether it was taking on roles as coaches, managers, scorers or just helping out on each game day. Special thanks to our non-parent coaches in the club - Peter Schofield, Ian Latham, Adam Pascoe, Robbie Knight, Chris Moreland, Tim Russell and James Bills.

At the end of last season Steve Jones handed on the President’s baton after 9 years of unwavering service to our club. On behalf of everyone associated with the Dragons I would like to thank Steve for his strong leadership and direction over those years. Fortunately for us Steve will remain in the cricket club as a general committee member as well as continue in the important community role on the Anzac Complex 527 Committee.

As this was my first year as Club President I would like to thank everyone who put time and effort into the club’s running and made my job that much easier. A special thankyou goes out to our Club Secretary Neil Croker who yet again this season, put his heart and soul in to the club’s operations. Thank you to the other committee members who worked tirelessly behind the scenes in their various roles.

Our Bunnings BBQ fundraiser was a roaring success this season. Thank you to all those teams and supporters who gave up their time to help out on the day. This year was especially busy as we ran out of sausages and bread stocks mid-afternoon requiring a mad dash to Supabarn at Sutherland to replenish stocks.

As a club we are always trying to investigate any avenues of additional fund raising. I would appeal to everyone associated with the Dragons, whether committee members, parents of junior players, or senior players, to assist in any way possible to attract sponsors in to our club. There are many positive ways that sponsors can be promoted in our local community via the Dragons Cricket Club.

Towards the end of the season our club had their first official Facebook page created and administered by one of our senior players, Tim Russell. A big thank you to Tim for this great initiative. It will be used as a means of communication to our members and we welcome all positive input to the Facebook page in the future.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 6

Thank you to all the senior teams and their players this year. We believe in having a strong senior component of the club. I was pleased to see a substantial number of last year’s U16 players filter up to the men’s teams with a number of father/son combinations playing in the various grades. I congratulate all the senior teams and hope to see you all back next season. A special mention goes out to Stuart Slack for his role in coordinating the men’s teams. Stuart, along with Adam Pascoe, has also organised the resurrection of the “club night” to be held at Engadine Bowling Club.

In closing let me once again thank everyone for their contributions to another successful season. As a club we are always looking at ways of encouraging and boosting new members to our committee. Please consider helping out. There are always positions available and we would love to see these filled.

Remember to keep up with all the club news and events via our website and Facebook page. See you again next season.

Jim Lee President

Thank you to the Sutherland Shire Council and the assistance of the SSJCA for our Practice Nets Upgrade this season

SECRETARIES REPORT

Another successful season for the Dragons with 3 Junior and 4 Senior teams making the final with the 10A, 10C & C2 winning their respective grades. Whilst our 16A, B2, B5 & B6 were not successful they should be proud of the season they had.

Our Junior numbers continue to grow with a club record 191 players across 17 teams. Our Senior numbers were steady with 8 Teams and it was great to see John Westlake & Scott Jones Captain Teams which included the majority of former junior players moving into the Men’s Competition.

In the lead up to season the club received the news of the passing of Heather Robbins (the wife of Club Legend Harry Robbins) after a long battle with illness. A strong contingent of former and current players and supporters attended the funeral. Our condolences go out to Harry and his family.

Congratulations to Stuart Slack on becoming the club’s 31st Life Member. Stuart has played with the club for the past 25 years and also coached for 9 years during this period.

With the help of the SSJCA and Sutherland Council our nets at Anzac Oval received new synthetic pitches, this will allow the Club to continue to provide outstanding training facilities for all our players.

This season saw the club provide all Junior Coaches with our new supporter shirt to wear on game day when umpiring.

Without the help of our sponsors the club would not be able to keep our fees low and provide great training facilities. I would to thank our new sponsors Vision Printing for providing our Registration Flyers and Speedy Keys for providing the player of the week trophies for our U8 & U10 teams.

Congratulations to our 10B team for winning the Whitto’s Pizza action shot of the year competition with the winning photo going on the front cover of our Annual Report.

To our remaining Sponsors,

Club Engadine The Shire CU Southern Cross Framing Choc Deli Engadine GNP Marine Trimming

Thank you for your ongoing support.

This season also saw the re-introduction of the Senior Presentation night and I would like to thank Adam Pascoe and Stuart Slack for organising the night. I’m sure with guest speaker Darryl Brohman attending it will be a great night.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 8

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 9

A special mention to Tim Russell for organising the Club’s Facebook page. Although only a few months old it has almost 200 followers and I’m sure it will continue to grow.

To the Committee, Captains, Coaches, Managers, Scorers and helpers thank you for volunteering and playing a part in getting the 25 teams on the field each week to represent the Dragons.

As mentioned last year, I will not be standing for re-election this year. It will provide an opportunity for some new faces and fresh ideas to join the committee.

I would like to thank everyone that has helped me over the past 6 years, in particular Harry Robbins, Steve Jones, Ian Latham and Jim Lee for your advice and guidance.

Pleases come along to the club’s AGM on Wednesday 8th June as the club is always looking for new faces.

Neil Croker

Whitto’s Pizza “Action Shot of the Season” Winner – 10B Team

Congratulations to the Club’s 31st Life Member – Stuart Slack. Stuart joined the Club as a junior player in the 1989/90 season going on to play 22 consecutive seasons for the Club before returning to play again in 2013/14. The 2015/16 season marked Stuart’s 25th for the Club. Stuart has also served the Club as coach for 9 seasons from 1995/96 to 2003/04. Stuart was barely out of juniors when he took on this role and went on to be one of the Club’s most successful coaches winning 3 consecutive 16A Premierships in 2000/01, 2001/02 and 2002/03 seasons. This season Stuart took on the role as Senior Secretary introducing the “Senior Season Launch” and re-introducing the “Senior Presentation and Club Night”.

JUNIOR RECORDS

NEW JUNIOR CLUB RECORDS Luke Ritchie 12A Batting Aggregate 593 Dane Courtney 14C Batting Aggregate 380 Nick Amos 16A 5.72

Luke Ritchie continued his great form from last season scoring an incredible 593 runs at an average of 148.25 for his 12A team.

Luke’s aggregate this season breaks not only the current 12A Club Record Aggregate of 479 runs set by Ben Marciante in the 2002/2003 season, but also beats the all time record of Chris Lake who scored 576 runs in the 1990/1991 season when matches were time limited instead of the current format of over limited matches consisting of ten rounds. Luke also scored his maiden century with 119 not.

Dane Courtney set a new Club Record for the 14C Batting Aggregate with 380 runs, which included his maiden century score of 103. Dane passed the previous record of 368 runs that was set by Blake Duncum in the 2005/2006 season.

Dane’s great batting performance this season also saw him surpass the all time Club Record of 370 runs that was set by Darren Price in the 1990/1991 season.

Nick Amos finished of his junior career in style taking 25 wickets at an average of 5.72 with the best bowling figures of 5 for 16 off 12 overs.

Nick broke the Club Record for the 16A Bowling Average of 6.75 that was set by Chris Mar in the 1998/1999 season, which was also a Club all time Record.

SENIOR RECORDS

NEW SENIOR CLUB RECORDS John Westlake B5 Batting Average 68.00 Tim Berry B6 Batting Aggregate 928 Tim Berry B6 Batting Average 185.6 Tim Berry B6 Club’s Highest Score 339 Not Out

2015/2016 has been a stellar season for Tim Berry. Tim smashed the Club Records for the B6 batting aggregate and batting average, which were previously held by Mathew Barnes with 611 runs and Nathan McNamara with an average of 57.43. Tim set the new records of 928 runs and an average of 185.6 in just the first 7 rounds, and in only 6 innings before being re-graded by the SSCA to our A2-2 team. His six B6 innings scores were – 136, 167, 115, 33, 138 and 339 not out. In Round No.7 against St. Patricks he also recorded the Club’s highest ever score of 339 not out eclipsing the previous record that was set by Glenn Caukill of 231 not out in the 2006/2007 season. In the same match with his brother Matthew they set the record for the Club’s highest partnership of 329. In all matches Tim became the first Dragon’s batsman to break one thousand runs in a season scoring 1084 runs at an average of 90.34. Along the way Tim also scored 5 centuries, which is also a record number of centuries in one season.

Club veteran John Westlake just keeps on getting better like a vintage bottle of wine. Not only did he win the B5 Team Batting Award with an aggregate of 408 runs he also broke the Club Record for the B5 Batting Average.

John’s batting average of 68 narrowly surpassed the previous record average of 67.60 set by Hayden Smith in the 2010/2011 season.

This season saw John score 152 not out and 101, which makes 6 centuries in all for the Club. His first century came way back in the 1982/1983 when he scored 106 for his 16A team and was the recipient of the “Junior Club Champion” Trophy.

8 BLUE TEAM REPORT

The 2015/16 cricket season was one of great success for the 8 Blue team as we enjoyed a perfect undefeated 10 win, nil loss campaign. Most importantly though all 9 boys played the game with plenty of comradely, spirit and had heaps of fun. We welcomed several new players to the squad and they blended seamlessly with the boys into their second season. Throughout the course of the summer it was very pleasing to see the considerable improvement that each of the mini Dragons brought to their game. To Matt, our coach - A huge thank you for your time and tuition in enabling this to occur.

Junior sport can’t go ahead without lots of helpers. Thanks to all parents and family for getting the boys to training and the matches on time each week and for your willingness to assist with day to day match duties such as scoring.

To all players, thanks for making Saturday mornings throughout summer such an enjoyable time. We wish you well in your cricketing endeavours into the future and hope that most of you can combine again next season for another fun year.

KYLE BLAKENEY – Never short on enthusiasm, Kyle was always a solid contributor to the team and showed significant improvement across all facets of the game. With the bat he chalked up 61 runs and always assisted his partner hustle through for another run. Off the long run up; Kyle ramped up the fear factor of opposing batsman with nice pace that yielded 6 wickets. His reduction in giving away cheap sundries this year was pleasing as well. In the field, Kyle prevented many boundaries with his speed chasing the ball. He whipped it back to the ‘keeper effecting 2 run outs.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 38

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 39

ZACHARY BROWNSCOMBE - A really pleasing season for Zach who was never without a smile on his dial. He built upon the strong platform laid last season and displayed a very fluid bowling action that netted 6 wickets at an impressive average of 18.50. At the crease, we saw 58 well earned runs and several not out innings. Terrific contribution in the field as well; two run outs and a sharp catch at wicket keeper. Zach could always be called upon to deliver a reliable and consistently good performance when it mattered.

JAYDEN DUNDAS – Despite giving away size, age and experience to his opponent Jayden gets it all back with enthusiasm, tenacity and ability. A batting high score of 30 and an impressive aggregate of 141 displayed exemplary stroke play and plenty of boundaries. With the ball; 10 wickets at an average of 10.80 says plenty about Jayden’s ability but not the full story. 5 maiden overs in the course of the season gives more hints as to his precise line and length. 2 catches in the field and 3 run outs capped an awesome debut season.

AUSTIN HIGHETT – From a coach and spectator perspective, Austin was the MVP as the improvement throughout the course of the season was something to be very proud of. Bowling with a nice strong action Austin’s 2 wickets brought plenty of cheers from the crowd. When we needed it most, he whipped the ball in to the stumps and made a great run out. With bat in hand, Austin provided some season highlights including a solid knock of 12 not out for a season total of 49 runs.

RYAN LILLIS – A breakout season for “Ryno” this year. Building upon his strong rookie effort he really developed into an important cog in the Dragons machine. With the ball, his medium pacers deceived plenty opposing batsmen and an 8 wicket haul at an 11.63 average is outstanding. Ryan amassed 110 runs with some clever stoke play and some scintillating smashing of the loose ball. Catches win matches however and we are thankful to have such an outstanding fieldsman in our midst. 3 “classics” and 2 sensational run outs had every opposition batsmen looking elsewhere to hit the ball.

FRED MORANDO – Our batting master blaster, Fred delivered many memorable innings and countless boundaries including 1 massive six in our last match at home. Top score of 38 and an incredible aggregate of 244. When thrown the ball he rarely failed to deliver. 7 wickets at an average of 15.14 he mixed raw pace with zesty leg spin which proved equally effective. Always in the game and showing great awareness he saved many runs in the field and grabbed 4 impressive catches plus a run out.

JOSHUA SAMBUCO – Valued his wicket at all times when at the crease and was rarely dismissed which resulted in a very high average of 24.00. Josh’s powerful batting regularly sent the opposition fieldsman to the boundary to retrieve the ball. Showing genuine all round capability his bowling was sharp and improved significantly toward the back end of the season and delivered 5 handy wickets. Amongst the best when handed the wicket keeping duties he snared a beautiful catch behind the stumps and one in the outfield as well.

LUCAS SHEEHY – The spearhead of the bowling attack with an astonishing return of 16 wickets through the course of the season at a miserly average of only 6.81. Lucas pace and accuracy had good judges of the game impressed and predicting big things to come. By no means a one hit wonder, Lucas also delivered some nice batting than saw 90 runs accumulated and a top score of 18 not out. In the field he was always looking to back up throws from the outfield showing terrific team spirit.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 39

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 40

LACHLAN SNELL – A genuine all-rounder who always provides highlights for the crowd. When batting, Lachlan is absolute lightning between the wickets which contributed toward his towering batting aggregate of 181 runs at 25.86. The coach regularly asked him to find a wicket with the ball and Lachlan invariably delivered finding 6 wickets over the season’s duration. With a truly fearsome and accurate throwing arm, he contributed to a remarkable 5 run outs

Congratulations boys. This season was very impressive for many reasons. You are all a pleasure to be associated with and have the makings to build a very successful team as you progress in your careers.

8 BLACK TEAM REPORT

The 2015/16 season was an enjoyable one with most of our under 8 black team having their first cricket experience in a team environment.

Our season produced 9 wins out of 10 games, which was a fantastic effort. It was great to see the level of improvement from each and every player throughout the season with their dedication to training and game day. Their bowling, batting and fielding in the last few games compared to early in the season performances demonstrated the level of improvement. Congratulations to all our team members.

A big thank you to our team manager Denise Martin who provided all team communication, scoring and data entry for the season was a massive help. Also a big thank you to all the parents who encouraged the kids in their efforts, getting them to training and games on time, helping out with team refreshments and for filling in for coaching and scoring when needed.

Coaching the under 8 black team was an enjoyable experience and I wish the team members all the best for their future cricketing and sporting endeavours.

ALEX CASPERSONN – Alex was always keen to learn at training and gave his best on game day. He improved in all areas of the game, enjoying his enthusiasm running between wickets and his bowling swing action when on target was difficult to hit. Alex enjoyed being one of our regular wicket keepers and improving steadily throughout the season. 42 runs off the bat and 1 for 116 with the ball. Well done Alex.

RORY CASPERSONN – As expected very similar in his red shoes to his twin brother. Rory trained hard as well as always giving his best on game day. He enjoyed his wicket keeping and improved steadily with his batting and bowling again unlucky not to get a few more wickets like his brother with some on target bowling lobs handing right on the stumps yet 41 runs off the bat and 1 for 121 with the ball. Well Done Rory.

GEORGIA FURLONG – Georgia was our only girl and a delight to have as a team member holding her own and improving significantly throughout the season particularly with her bowling. Georgia listened well and always tried to follow advice given and when she broke through with a few wickets and most of the balls on the pitch it was great to see. 16 runs off the bat and 3 wickets for 104. So great Work Georgia.

CONNOR GANDERTON – Mr Reliable at the top of the order with the bat. Frequently hitting balls to the boundary and setting the platform for the rest of the team. Our highest run scorer with 186 runs in his 10 innings and a great contribution with the ball with 8 wickets for 97 runs. Handy in the field with some great catches, Connor will be one to watch in the future. Congratulations on a great season Connor.

RONIN GREENWOOD – Ronin had a level of energy and enthusiasm when pointed in the right direction made him quite effective especially with his bowling. He had a good spinner action by end of the season, enjoyed his time as wicket keeper and was keen when batting. Ronin improved steadily throughout the season and was a good team player. Ronin scored 32 runs off the bat and got two wickets. Very well done Ronin.

COOPER MARTIN – Cooper was always smiling and had a calm demeanour not too phased by anything thrown at him. He contributed well with the ball and bat consistently throughout the season. He was a joy to have in the team and integrated well with every team member. Cooper scored 67 runs off the bat and bowled 6 for 112. Great work Cooper.

KADE PAYNE – Kade excelled with his bowling this year and he made big improvements with his batting scoring freely at the end of season with regular boundaries. He was always keen with several run outs and took some good catches in the field. Kade scored 156 runs in 10 innings and got 15 wickets for 60 runs with the ball, which was a fantastic performance. Well done Kade a great all- rounder season.

TOM POWELL – One of our strike bowlers with his left arm pace and was unlucky not to get more wickets. He was very economical with 3 wickets for 57 runs. Tom improved very well with his batting with consistent performances wielding 135 runs off the bat over the season, scoring many memorable boundaries. Tom has a great throwing arm which troubled the opposition. Another all-rounder who performed will for his team on a regular basis. Well done Tommy.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 42

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 43

THOMAS WHEATLEY – Our youngest team member who regularly performed on the field beyond his years. Some cracking batting performances with some great shots to the boundary. He was a keen wicket keeper and when bowling accurately troubled the opposition. Another lefty with a good arm. Tom hit 100 runs off the bat and bowled 3 for 89 which was a solid contribution to our teams success on the field.

Coaching the mighty under 8 black team was an enjoyable experience and I wish the team members all the best for their future cricketing and sporting endeavours.

10A TEAM REPORT

This year’s team were all playing A grade Cricket for the first time, and what a massive effort by all the boys and girls to not just make the final but to go on and win it against a previously undefeated team in the final. This team is a very talented group, who enjoy each other’s company and work very hard to improve with countless hours spent at training working on their fielding bowling and batting, they were always enthusiastic and never complained about the cranky coach constantly yelling. I would like to thank Craig Freer and Marty McKenzie for their help with the coaching and the calming influence they provided throughout the season, they were the first to training and the last to leave helping to set up and pack things away at the end. Thanks also to Michelle Ritchie for managing the team and keeping things running smoothly behind the scene all year.

ELIJAH DUNDAS – The youngest player in our team after coming up from last year’s under 8s, by season’s end Elijah was 1 of our most consistent bowlers, bowling a full line and length on the way to taking 10 wickets for the season, he also chipped in with some very important innings with the bat and is set for a massive year in the 10s next year

KOBEY FREER – A hard hitting batsman who can take the game away from opposition teams when he gets going, he worked really hard on his running between the wickets this year and was rewarded with 150 runs for the season, combined with his 11 wickets with the ball he was very deserving of his selection in the Sutherland Under 10 Development squad.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 44

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 45

AIMEE HALL – A very talented athlete with huge potential in cricket, Aimee found her spot opening the batting and regularly got us off to a good start with her running between the wickets always a highlight, sometimes almost lapping her batting partner, she excelled in the field and shows plenty of potential with her spin bowling

KOBY LILLIS – Is a technically gifted batsman who had a very solid season with the bat this year scoring 118 runs, as he gets stronger he will become a very efficient run scorer for his team. Koby was also 1 of our 2 quality wicket keepers taking 2 catches whilst conceding very few byes.

RYAN LOCKE – Was playing his first season with the club and was thrown straight into A grade, he started the season slowly due to some untimely injuries but by the time the final came around he had turned himself into 1 of our strike bowlers. Easily the quickest bowler in the team he chimed in with 7 wickets for the year and a couple of very important run outs

BIANCA MCKENZIE – Was the voice of this team, she was always encouraging and working hard, she scored some important runs with the bat, improved her bowling throughout the year and was terrific with her wicket keeping taking 2 catches and only conceding 18 byes for the season.

LACHLAN MCKENZIE – A very talented all rounder, always troubled the opposition with his left arm pace bowling taking 5 wickets and scoring 106 runs with the bat, Lachie is a gun in the field taking 7 catches along with 2 run outs. When Lachie gains some confidence and realises how good he is he will terrorise the opposition

LACHLAN RITCHIE – I like to refer to Lachie as the class cricketer in the under 10 competition. It was another very productive season for Lachie, a technically gifted batsman, he scored 247 runs and took 13 wickets with some high quality swing bowling. He always led by example with his batting, bowling and good all round fielding.

THOMAS SHEEHY – Always a tough gig being the coach’s son, but Thomas really stood up this year, he was our most consistent and economical bowler whilst not always getting the rewards he deserved. He took 7 wickets and scored 72 runs for the season, but it was the final where he got his reward earning player of the final honours for his all around big game performance.

BYRON THOMAS – Easily our most improved batsman this year, Byron worked hard on his technique to make it very difficult for the opposition to dismiss him and by seasons end was playing some high quality attacking strokes. He also chimed in with 5 wickets and a run out

ALEXANDER TRENBERTH – Alex is always working hard, and it was his bowling which showed the most improvement as the season went on, he bowls quick and straight and is at times unplayable. He can bat as well with his aggressive style always fun to watch. Late in the season he took some very good catches at point

LUCAS SHEEHY, RYAN LILLIS & JAYDEN DUNDAS – The 3 boys from under 8s contribution to this successful team cannot be underestimated, due to injury illness and other commitments we were constantly left shorthanded in the field and these 3 future stars were always willing to help out, including taking a wicket and scoring a few runs along the way. Thanks Boys

10B TEAM REPORT

The meaning of giving your all and not giving up!

What an outstanding season we had. We truly had a “gutsy” team determined to make their mark in the 10’s competition this year.

Our team of Bailey Croker, Balin Carlisle, Benjamin Veitch, Luke Dowse, Lucas Mann, Corey Turner, Koby Wallace, Jacob Chapman, Riley Edwards, Angus Knight and Zane Bell performed well above expectations.

Most impressive this year were the lads playing in the true spirit of cricket. Most of the lads experienced a more competitive year this year with many new to the under 10’s format. Nonetheless, the focus this season was about:

Fun and mateship among the lads; Improving cricket skills and techniques and, everyone getting opportunities and having a “red hot” go

Although we missed the finals this year by the slimmest of margins, I believe we achieved our objectives. The lads were also great to coach, train and mentor.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 47

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 48

To make for an enjoyable and successful season, the team needed to be cohesive and gel early. This was evident from game one and moreover, this also extended to the Mums, Dad’s and our small but distinguished army of followers.

Before going into the season in detail, some specific “thank you’s”

Firstly, I’d like to extend on behalf of the team great thanks of his efforts as our team manager Steve Carlisle. Having a dedicated and supportive manager makes a huge difference. Thank you Steve

Secondly, to Julio Pino. Julio became our team photographer and took some great snaps that captured the season well. Thank you for giving up some of you Saturday’s to capture some of those timeless moments

Thirdly, thank you to my wife for allowing me the time to coach. Without her support, I would not have be able to commit the time to coaching. Thanks Sim.

Finally, to our team’s Mum’s and Dad’s that helped out this year, a big thanks. Whether it be at practice doing the pad-up’s, playing that role of fielder during centre wicket’s, jumping on the score book during game day or even just being there to cheer one of the many outstanding performances seen this season. My sincere thanks

Now, a short summary on our great team members,

BAILEY “speed demon” CROKER – Bailey’s batting technique has matured greatly. With time, he will be a force feared in any top order. His bowling was outstanding. Snagging eight wickets this year was a deserved result. They say the best accolades come from the opposition and, to hear one of the Caringbah batsmen tell the striking batsman “careful, he is real quick” sums it up.

BALIN “seam up every time” CARLISLE – Balin had a top season, impressive stroke making and outstanding bowling was great to watch. Balin was unlucky not to get more wickets this year only because he did “too much” with the ball. Swinging the ball both ways and seaming it off the deck left even the best batsmen scratching their heads.

BEN “gutsy” VEITCH – had a sterling season. Ben played a pivotal role where ever he batted, bowled or fielded. As the season progressed he started reading the game in a more strategic sense. When on the ropes, he was the anchor man with the bat or Mr reliable with the ball. Top effort Ben

JACOB “Gilly” CHAPMAN – Jacob’s performance this year was one I was very proud of. Jacob studied the game diligently and would pull a boundary out of the hat when no-one else could. Pushing through the crease more and more towards the end of the season will see Jacob really excel in years to come

RILEY “Mr Cricket” EDWARDS – What a year for this young lad! Riley improved out of sight. Riley was always in the play and keen to get involved. Great technique, ability, smart calling between wickets and, a true genius mind for cricket tactics just starts to sum up Riley’s season. Stick at it Riley.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 48

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 49

ANGUS “the sniper” KNIGHT – Angus has the strength in batting that would make fielders retreat in fear. When Angus hit the ball it “stayed” hit. Hard work at practice also paid off for Angus. A higher front arm saw Angus achieve better success later in the season with the ball. Also, a couple of direct hit run-outs from the boundary earn Angus the title of “sniper”. Top work Angus

ZANE “the maestro” BELL – The hand eye coordination Zane displayed was superb. Zane hardly miss hit a ball and played some of the finest knocks of the season particularly when the team was in a tight spot. Zane’s bowling was “top shelf” but his fielding and catching was a sight to see. A natural gully fieldsmen – one of the hardest places on the field! Well done Zane

LUKE “the closer” DOWSE – Luke was a master of jagging a wicket when we most needed a break- through. Stump to stump bowling is Luke’s strong suit which earned him top spot on the wicket tally. Luke’s batting and fielding also never let the team down showing courage and determination. Top notch!

COREY “Magic” TURNER – Corey’s batting was nothing short of solid and he made it very difficult for teams to dismiss him. He frustrated teams with a block that the department of defence would be proud of. Corey’s fielding didn’t disappoint either taking the lion’s share in the “run-out’ department. Corey earns the term magic because batsmen were mystified with what Corey would bowl next. I remember he bowled six different deliveries in the one over. Class Corey!

KOBY “the assassin” WALLACE – He had a top season this year with a performance that was second to none. Solid in batting, bowling, fielding, and keeping. Koby could tear apart an attack in the blink of an eye or take out key batsmen with smart calculated bowling. Great season Koby!

LUCAS “Tiger” MANN – Guts and determination at the crease with the bat with a fine technique to boot! Lucas played some of the finest drives of the season and started to take advantage of loose balls as the season progressed. Lucas persisted with leg spin this year taking a couple of memorable wickets including a caught and bowled off his shoe laces. Proud of you son!

BAILEY ROGERS-SERVAAS – Bailey unfortunately didn’t get much of a run this year pulling out at the start of the season but deserves credit for giving it ago. Hope to see you next year Bails!

Well done lads on a fine season. A season you and your family should be proud of. Thanks for the memories and I hope you enjoyed the season.

Good luck with your winter sports endeavours and I hope to see you again soon.

Finally, coach signing off…

Yours in Cricket

10C TEAM REPORT

Well what a wonderful season for our Dragons 10C’s….2016 Premiers!

It was evident at the beginning of the season that we had a team full of natural talent and ability. We spent a few weeks trying to reduce the number of no balls and wides as these were giving away unnecessary runs. From the beginning of the season to the end of the season we managed to reduce these by half.

At Round 6 we changed from mod cricket to traditional cricket and this saw a whole new approach to the game by our players. Each of our boys moved confidently into the new structure and our season improved from week to week.

With 7 out of 10 Round wins for the season we managed to stay near the top of the ladder and luckily our batting average saw us move into the Final. We knew our Final opponents well as they had beaten us during both rounds. Each and every one of our boys played their hearts out and the on-field talk was a pleasure to hear - each one of our boys encouraging their team mates. The day was hot and the game was long but the game took a quick turn when on the eighth ball Paddy bowled a great delivery and Will M caught the opponent’s lead batter. Our boys quickly took the lead when they moved into bat but the game was not won until the final over when Will M and Ben gained our final runs. It was an overall team effort, not only during the Final but throughout the whole season, and our boys should be extremely proud of themselves.

Thank you to Dean for all your coaching efforts this season. You turned up with a plan each Saturday to ensure, not only a good chance at a win, but for each of the boys to have equal opportunity. Your cricketing knowledge provided a huge contribution to the boys’ success, from deciding on when the grass was too long for a quieter batsman to when the team morale was low and we needed to take a wicket. We appreciated all the hours you contributed on and off the field.

Thanks also to Darren who contributed many hours as chief trainer each week and who provided Dean with assistance each weekend. We appreciate you making the time to train the boys with your work commitments and for always lugging around the huge kit. Many hands make light work and many of our cricketing Dads helped out at training each week – thanks Chris and Ben.

It’s been a pleasure hanging out with the boys and all our wonderful families this year. I hope your boys enjoyed this season as much as mine did!

Jo Davidson

WILL MARCIC – One of our younger players and sure keen about his cricket. Will always worked hard on his game and at the end of each training session he was always trying to talk his Dad into bowling him a few extra balls. Will certainly improved throughout this year and was great fun to have on the team. He teamed up with Ben to gain the last few run needed to win this year’s premiership. Well done Will.

LUKE CARTER-BENJAMIN – Luke is an all-round great cricket player with natural ability. He always listens and tries his absolute hardest at any position on the field and obtains good results. A great consistent team player who always managed to get good runs and take essential wickets. Well done Luke it’s been a pleasure to have you on the team.

MACKAY JOHNSON – A natural sportsman and super keen cricketer. Mackay is a great all round player. Super handy with the bat and he rarely missed an opportunity to catch a high ball taking 4 catches. Mackay always enjoyed his time on the field and was a pleasure to have on the team. This was Mackay’s first season of cricket and I’m sure his love for the game will bring him back next year.

WILL PRICE – Will is a great fielder to have on your team. When given the opportunity he rarely missed a run out – taking 4 of those this season. Will was an outstanding player in our Final and on the eighth ball of the game he managed to catch the opposition’s best batter on 1 run. This was very exciting for our boys and gave us a real opportunity to go after the premiership. Great season Will.

PATRICK HUGHES – One of our best and most consistent bowlers, Paddy had great bowling stats week in and week out. His accuracy always created opportunities for his team mates to capitalise on a catch or run out. Chief wicket taker this season. Always great fun, Paddie was a great team player.

NOAH ANDERSON-BARDEN – A great all round batter and bowler. Noah is very accurate with the ball and with super speed he always managed to keep the opposition’s batters to a low score. Even though he was one of our youngest players he certainly matched the ability of his older team mates and opposition players. Handy with the bat too. Well done on a great season Noah.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 52

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 53

DANIEL HOLT – Consistently great with the bat and ball, Daniel’s game improved dramatically this season. His natural ability for the game always provided his team with a resounding lead or an opportunity to catch the oppositions batting score. Congrats on such a great performance this year Danny.

TYSON BURKE – Our other most consistent bowler, we always brought in Tyson when our score was low and we needed to obtain wickets. Often our opening bowler to get the game moving quickly as was the case at the Final. An absolute bonus having Tyson on the team. Congratulations on a great season Tyson.

AIDEN STEWART – Super keen and with a natural batting and bowling ability to match. Aiden always managed to take good wickets and score consistently high runs for his team. Aiden had a great eye for run-outs – our highest number of 5 for the season. Great improvement throughout the season. Well done Aiden.

BENJAMIN GILBERT – A good all round cricket player who managed to score the last few runs we need to win this year’s premiership. Despite the anxious crowd, Ben and Will M managed to clinch the premiership in the very last over of the game. Well done Ben.

RYAN DAVIDSON – With a love and passion for the game, Ryan came each week ready to play. Our biggest batter this season, Ryan loved nothing more than hitting 4’s - disappointment when no balls and wides got in his way! Ryan had a great season and really enjoyed the opportunity to captain the boys in the Final.

DYLAN ANNETTS – unfortunately we lost Dylan to a sea change midway through the season. A good batter and bowler. Thanks for your contribution to the team Dylan.

10F TEAM REPORT

The 10F team was made up of mostly first time players and some players who have come up from the U8 competition and I could not be happier to have been a part of the team for the 2015/2016 season.

The season started off just as expected, batting was a struggle and when it came to bowling; balls were being bowled everywhere but on the pitch that said we had to start somewhere. From then on I could only see improvement in all the boys and Maeve each and every at training and on game day. Balls started to be bowled on the pitch more consistently; they even were starting the swing the ball which was awesome to watch. Our batting took a little longer but as the confidence grew and the belief that they could hit the ball hard saw big improvement within the team.

We finished the season at the lower end of the table but the competition was very close because we were coming first leading into the last 3 games of the season, no matter what the kids all deserve credit for making the season very enjoyable.

I would also like to thank Andrew for being manager and for all the parents, grandparents that supported the boys and Maeve throughout the season; it was great to see so much support for them each and every week.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 54

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 55

The team is made up of the following players:

DANIEL – We finally did it mate, we got you bowling the ball on the pitch with only one bounce, you even claimed a couple of wickets before the end of the season so great effort Daniel.

JAKE – A keen all-rounder, always enthusiastic when it came to his turn to bowl, nearly claimed a couple of hatricks throughout the season. Was a competitor when he was batting and did not like to get out.

LIAM – Started the season as a reliable outswing bowler and throughout the year his batting improved, he saved his best innings for one of the last games.

BRODIE – Improved throughout the year, typical left hand batsmen who loved to hit the ball has hard as he could through mid-wicket. His bowling improved throughout the year bowling some unplayable deliveries before the end of the season.

MAEVE – our only girl in the team and boy was she outstanding. Her outswing bowling was awesome to see so consistent week in week out, nearly took a hat trick in one of the games. Great effort Maeve.

MITCHELL – Tried his best throughout the year, was very good wicket keeper or being back stop. He rarely got out, he would play the ball so late that even I at sometimes thought he would get bowled but he never did.

LEWIS – Another good all-rounder in the team. Started the year well with his medium pace bowling, good fieldsman, quick across the field and could throw the ball a long way. He also was one of the stronger batsmen by the end of the season.

RYDER – A very quiet achiever, never heard much out of Ryder on and off the field, he just got on with the job. His bowling was very straight and saved his best batting innings for the last game of the year.

CLINTON – A very good swing bowler started the year off well and continued his form throughout the year taking 2 wickets in an over on multiple occasions. He would always put his hand up to wicket keep and surprised himself on one occasion by taking a catch.

JAMIE – Did not take long to grasp the game of cricket, was enthusiastic and encouraged all his team mates. He was a strong bowler and one of the strongest batsmen in the team so a great all-round effort.

AIDAN – A reliable right arm swing bowler, and another strong left hand batsman who had a knack for hitting the ball on the leg side. Finished the year strong and was a please to coach.

12A TEAM REPORT

The boys competed well against all the teams in the competition. They finished with three wins and a draw but also narrowly missed out in three other games that were decided in the last over. It was a close competition and it wasn’t until the final round when we were no longer a chance of a finals spot. The boys tried hard to win every game and would often put the team first in the chase of victory. We are really proud of the boys efforts this season and the improvement in each and every player. We enjoyed coaching all of the boys and hope to see everyone back next year.

LACHLAN BROWNSCOMBE – Lachlan was the best spinner in the competition and always worried the opposition batsmen with his flight and turn. I don’t think any of the boys will forget the seven wickets he took in one game, which included five wickets from eight balls bowled. Lachlan also looks promising with the bat and has a good foundation to work with.

BAYLIE FREESTONE – Baylie has good eye hand co-ordination and loves to hit the ball. In a couple of games Baylie was promoted in the batting order to push the run rate along and Baylie was happy to oblige. Baylie is a real entertainer and would have everyone’s attention when he was batting out in the middle. Baylie is also good at the odd bird noise, with the crow being a favourite. We enjoyed coaching Baylie and having him part of the team.

AARON HANLON – Aaron’s cricket shows real promise and with more experience and confidence in his ability, more runs and wickets will come. Aaron bowled really well during the season and he picked up six wickets. Aaron took three catches, two run outs and was often charged with keeping the ball dry and shiny. My favourite recollection of Aaron was him revving the team up in the 48th over on a very hot day when we only had nine players in the field and under the pump.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 57

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 58

ANDREW HEWLETT - Andrew has one of the safest pair of hands in our team and would often be one of the last standing in our fielding competitions at training. He worked very hard on his bowling during the season and in one game got out one of the best batsmen in the competition to get us right back in the game. Andrew also worked hard on his batting, would listen carefully and apply everything that he was taught.

MATTHEW HULL - Matt really improved during the season and bowled very well for us. Matt also provided some memorable innings including some big hitting at the Ridge to help us in our run chase, which seemed out of reach until Matt let loose. Matt also took two spectacular catches on the boundary and although one was a no-ball, both saved six runs being scored.

HAYDEN LINDSAY - Hayden did an outstanding job at opening the batting for us and he put on opening stands of 77no, 85, 100, 70, 265, 60, 22no and 46 in the eight times he opened the batting. If it wasn’t for rain delays and sitting on 93 for seven days he would have picked up a century as well. Hayden’s bowling was also very consistent, where he bowled a maiden every third over and picked up 7 wickets.

BEAU MCINERNEY – Beau was a real leader of the team, constantly talking and encouraging his team mates. He lifted the intensity of the whole team. Beau did a great job as wicket keeper taking 6 wicket keeper catches and he deserved to be the representative keeper. Beau is a terrific bowler so would sometimes be called upon to shake off the gloves late in the innings. In these important times he bowled very tight and often got wickets. In the field, Beau was rewarded with 3 run outs and 1 catch.

TYSON MITCHELL - It was Tyson’s first year of ever playing cricket and he was thrown in the deep end to play 12A’s. He is a fast left arm bowler and looked like a natural athlete from the start. Tyson opened the bowling on 6 occasions and had the opposition intimidated by his speed and swing. When opening the bowling Tyson had cumulative figures of 4 for 26 off 19 overs from his opening spells. Tyson finished with 7 wickets for the season and looks to be a very promising cricketer.

TY PARKES – Ty’s batting was a real asset to the team and his technique definitely improved as the season went on. Ty wasn’t afraid to put the team first particularly late in the innings as evidenced in one game where he scored 17 runs off one over when our season was on the line. Ty also bowled very well picking up 8 wickets and he was complimented by an opposing coach for how much his bowling had improved from prior seasons.

LUKE RITCHIE – It was Luke’s third year in the 12’s so he was ready to have a good year. Luke was blessed to have a good season with the bat and his opening partnerships with Hayden put the team off to a solid start. Luke was always dangerous in the field where he took 10 catches, 4 run outs and a stumping.

CHARLIE TE HIRA – We all knew Charlie had a safe pair of hands after he took 2 catches on the opening Saturday. Charlie is a left handed batsman that plays a lovely cover drive that is worthwhile seeing. Charlie always went about things with determination and fearlessness. He seemed to always get hit at training but he got on with things, never complained and put the team first.

Big thanks to James for coaching the side this year. James played for the Engadine Dragons and won two 16A premierships between 2002 and 2004. James went onto play for the Sutherland grade club and ultimately first grade. This year the 12A’s improved considerably throughout the course of the season and achieved good results due to his coaching. The boys really appreciated his knowledge of the game, youthfulness, ability to keep things simple and stories of past games against the likes of Steve Smith. It’s special to have someone that contributes their time back into their junior club in order to develop young cricketers - particularly when they don’t have a son in the side. James was a huge plus for this year’s 12A’s.

Thanks also to Mark for managing the side and to the help and support of all other parents. You played a big part in making this season so enjoyable.

12B TEAM REPORT

After having a pretty good season last year, the jump to 12b's was going to be tough. All the boys tried really hard and with not much practise due to weather and the grounds being out, we did ok. All the boys improved and we were good enough to be the only team to beat the top side in the regular season.

With a bit more practise who knows how good these kids can be. Thanks to all the parents for their help with scoring and getting the boys to the game on time. Also thanks to Kaz and Gunny for all their help this season.

Hope to see you all next year.

12E-1 TEAM REPORT

The 12E-1 team had a very good season and their all round team performance was reflected by the great results they achieved. Having played 13 matches this season the team won 7, drew 1 and lost 5, finishing the season in equal third position, but fourth on quotient. The team was competitive in every match they played and even in defeat they only lost by the narrowest of margins with the most being 18 runs.

All the players did their bit during the season, whether it be batting, bowling, keeping or in the field. There were three players that achieved 100 runs or more and two players that took 10 wickets or more, which was a great effort, but the most impressive aspect of the season was every player contributed with either runs, wickets or catches. The seasons overall statistics show that the team scored 1199 runs @ 12.11, took 86 wickets @ 11.99, 23 catches and 6 run outs.

Well done to all the players on a great season.

Thank you to all the volunteers that assisted during the season and thanks to Matt for coaching and Marty for managing the side.

12E-2 TEAM REPORT

This season saw majority of the team playing their first year at cricket. With a few weeks of training and a couple of games under their belt, I could see the improvement and confidence growing. Rotating the batting order each week gave each player a good chance to have time at the crease.

We had our first win just before the Christmas break, won the game in the last over, to see the excitement on the boys’ faces was priceless, also high fives and back slapping.

Overall the season was fun and enjoyable for me and the kids. I would like to thank the parents and grandparents for their help throughout the season, from getting the boys to training and game day, helping with the scoring, and their encouragement to the kids.

Thanks for Jake Ganderton for his help this season, running a couple of training sessions and some umpiring on weeks I was away, also putting results in online. Special thanks to Michelle as our manager, she has done a great job all season, from letting everyone know where and when we are playing to having the kids padded up and ready to go, also attending some of the cricket meetings.

RILEY GANDERTON – Has all the skills, our leading run scorer this season, with some dominating batting performances. Great team player. Well done Riley.

COOPER HARDMAN – Has had a great first year with some solid batting and bowling, has a talent as wicket keeper and also some classic catches in the outfield. Top work Cooper.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 64

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 65

NOAH HARDMAN – A great all rounder, has a very good batting technique. His fielding is supreme, can throw the stumps down from most areas on the field. Great season Noah.

ETHAN KERR – Has worked hard in his first year, good behind the stumps, has lots of positive encouragement for his team mates. Also one of the best fielders. Well done Ethan.

JASON PEIRCE – Jason is a great team player, rock solid with the bat in his hands. Only being dismissed twice all year. Keep up the good work Jase.

RYAN PLANT – Shows a great passion for the game. As the season progressed his batting definitely improved. One of the top fielders as well. Top effort Ryan.

MATTHEW STEER – One of the big improvers in the batting this year, his ability to hit 4’s was impressive. Matt loves the game, well done.

WILLIAM STEER – Steadily improved as the season went on, when he made captain that seemed to fire him up. He went on to score runs and take two wickets in a man of the match performance. Good first season Will.

MARK TARANELLOS – Solid effort from Mark this season. Had a great batting partnership with Jason in the last game of the year. Top job Mark.

ANGUS WHEATLEY – Another of the all rounders with some classy batting performances and quite a few wickets. Great season Angus.

JOSHUA WHIPPY – A great improvement in Josh’s bowling towards the end of the year, saw him take the most wickets in the team, has a great arm in the field as well. Top first season Josh.

Hope to see you all next year.

Cheers Pete Whippy

14A TEAM REPORT

First of all I would just like to say a big thank you to all the young men and woman in this side for the most enjoyable year of my junior cricket coaching to date. These young men and woman played well above their potential and were very unlucky not to be in the final this year. For the majority of the side being first year 14’s you all should be very proud of your achievements this year. To my managers Scott and Leanne Alford, I can’t say enough. Scott was there each training and ready to umpire at square leg each week without hesitation. Leanne was amazing with the cricket online, emails and text messages, the side could not run without you. A HUGE thank you. To Matt Kennedy, thank you again for your input at training and game days, much appreciated. To Robbie Knight, with his limited availability he always put a great spin on training and was always keen to hear how the boys performed. Thanks mate. To the parents a massive thank you for being there to allow me to coach without distraction. It has been a fantastic season and I look forward to the next.

Thanks Adam

COREY ALFORD – All your hard work this year paid off Corey. You have turned yourself into a very talented left arm spin bowler and have become quite the handy fielder at gully with some sharp catches during the season. Well done mate.

MITCHELL BETTS – The engine room of the team. Mate you performed week in, week out with your consistent opening bowling and enthusiasm in the field. You are my team player. Your batting improved over the year and keep that self-belief and you will continue to grow as a great cricketer. Great year Mitch.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 66

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 67

DANE COOMBS – Dane, you have the technique and ability to achieve big things in cricket, you just have to relax and be confident in what you can achieve. A solid year but I am predicting bigger and better things next season. Good luck mate

TYLER CUSSEN – Unfortunately mate injury hampered your season, but the team spirit you showed in your support during the year is a massive pat on the back. You have plenty of ability Tyler and I am looking forward to a big injury free year next season. Thanks Tyler.

BRAYDEN JOHNSTON – Brayden to see you smile in your achievements this year was priceless. You listened and I hope learned from a tough year. With limited opportunities you proved to be a great team man, especially in the field. I enjoyed getting to know you this year and will build on bigger and better things next season. Thanks Brayden.

CLAUDIA JOHNSTON – Wow, what a breath of fresh air. You are a very talented young cricketer and I’m sure we will see your name in big lights in years to come. Batting and fielding I can’t pick any faults, you are a talent. Thanks for a great year Claudia.

OLLIE KENNEDY – What a massive year for your first year in the 14’s Ollie. Your achievements this year are a credit to yourself for all your hard work. Passionate at training and on the field are great attributes to have at your age. Just relax a little more and believe in your ability and you will have an even bigger year next season. Well done.

ZAC McLOUGHLIN – What a great year Zac. Not so much with the bat (we will work on that) but with the ball and your enthusiasm and competence in the field, you were able to lift our side whenever we needed it. You are a gentleman and a pleasure to coach and I can only see you going ahead in leaps and bounds in your cricket. You show great leadership in your cricket which is also a great attribute to keep through life. Thanks mate, enjoyed the year.

COREY MOORS – To come into a new team and perform the way you did this year is to be highly commended. Your concentration and attitude to the game of cricket at your age is a maturity beyond your years. You’re a pleasure to coach mate. Looking forward to a huge year next season. Congrats Corey on a top year.

JOSHUA SHEEHY – Thrown into the deep end of opening the batting and you handled it with grace and maturity above your years. Your technique is a credit to your hard work Josh and you should be very proud of your achievements in your first year of 14’s. Looking forward to an even bigger year next season. Well done mate.

BRAD SIMPSON – What a year. First ton, state selection and Green Shield. You are the complete cricketer Simo and full credit to your hard work and training. It was great to share a massive personal mile stone with you, in scoring your first century, it will always stay with me. I wish you all the best in your cricket future and I am sure we will see you succeed in your future endeavours. Thanks Brad.

14B TEAM REPORT

What a great season with a great bunch of kids. As they get older and some move up, we found some familiar faces back like Will Craggs, Ryan and Blake Barden. We also had 4 new starters to the game with Cooper Noakes, Brynn Magson, Luke and Brad Bishop and it was a pleasure to see their games improve over the season with all showing some commendable batting and bowling achievements. While we didn’t make the final, we did win a lot of games and the positive spirit throughout the season was fantastic with plenty of new friendships formed. Hopefully we can see all the kids back next year.

RYAN ASTBURY – What can I say about Ryan. He’s consistent in his approach to the game. Ryan’s a well-rounded player, being a capable batter, bowler and fielder. Well done this season, Ryan.

BLAKE BARDEN – The teams ‘All rounder’. With the most runs, 5 catches and 11 wickets, Blake really deserves the title. Whenever we faced a tough team we could always rely on Blake to keep us in the game and, once he got his eye in, the big hits kept coming earning him the well deserved batting award. There was more than one opponent who went just a little bit pale when Blake started his run- in and let rip with a wicked bouncer! Another great season, Blake.

RYAN BARDEN – Nothing surprising about Ryan. Year after year he shows he has what it takes as a batsman and as a wicky, but his spin bowling is what really stands out. They’re slow and unpredictable and cause even the best batters to slip up. Ryan’s fielding numbers really added up this year with 7 catches, 2 run outs and a stumping. It’s always a pleasure to umpire when Ryan’s batting as he enjoys a chat and comes out with some great one liners. One of our best players, we hope to see you in the team again next year.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 69

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 70

BRAD BISHOP – As a newcomer to the game, along with his brother Luke, Brad showed some real promise, taking an impressive 5 wickets. Brad showed some good skills in batting with some really big hits right when we needed them. Look forward to seeing you next year Brad.

LUKE BISHOP – As with his brother, Brad, Luke really found his groove more and more as the season progressed. Luke was a handy fielder and took an impressive 5 wickets, as well as a catch. Luke shows some real promise in this sport and I hope he sticks with the game. He was a pleasure to have in the team.

JESSE CAMPBELL – After looking forward to the season all winter Jesse couldn’t wait for the first game. Jesse’s speed between the wickets scored a number of very tight runs as well as chasing down many potential boundaries. Jesse also took 11 wickets, equalling Tyler and Blake, and in the last game bowled an impressive 3 for 5. His performance throughout the season earned Jesse the ‘most consistent player’ award. Another great season. Well done.

HARRISON CAVANAGH – It was great to see Harrison join the team. The skill he brought from the A’s made him stand out with consistent impressive fielding, batting and bowling throughout the season. Harrison fitted right in and was a pleasure to have in the team. I hope to see him back in this team next season. See you next year, Harrison.

TYLER COLDWELL – After missing the first game due to a broken foot, Tyler came back with his usual great bowling and batting. Tyler shared an impressive 11 wickets with Blake and Jesse earning the bowling award and shows the same enthusiasm for the game year after year. Tyler starts his batting cautiously and then lets fly giving us some big hits and numerous boundaries. I can’t wait to see what Tyler can do next season.

WILLIAM CRAGGS – Some seriously fast and accurate bowling from Will had most of his own team shying away, not to mention the teams we played. More than one player ended up with some bruises from being just that little bit too slow to move out of the balls trajectory. Will was given the role of Captain for the season and did a fantastic job of setting the field, assisting with coaching and mentoring the players. Will was not just a great bowler, he was also very handy with the bat and hung in for some long innings when we needed them. Will was a real asset to the team and will be missed next year when he moves up to the 16s. Great job, Will.

BRYNN MAGSON – New to cricket Brynn, was a quiet achiever throughout the season. He would never make a fuss, but was always keen to get in and have a go. Brynn consistently improved throughout the season and shows great promise for next year. I must make particular note of his good manners, never failing to thank the coach and manager after training and the game. Always a pleasure to have Brynn in the team.

LOGAN MCKINLAY – Year after year Logan has been a consistently good bowler and a batter who loves getting the big hits, but this year he really stood out as one of our wickies. Some outstanding acrobatics behind the stumps were not only effective, but amusing to watch, with Logan netting 5 keeper catches and a stumping giving him the ‘most improved player’ award. Great season, Logan!

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 70

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 71

COOPER NOAKES – It was hard to believe this was Cooper’s first season of cricket. With a highest score of 26, four wickets and a catch, this was a remarkable achievement for a B team. With a few seasons under his belt Cooper is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

14C-1 TEAM REPORT

For a team that did not win a game, although we came mighty close a few times, not enough praise can be given to this team of truly committed, enthusiastic and respectful team of young men who played each game in the true spirit of cricket. With so much talent and ability to burn, it was mainly our mental attitude out on the field that let us down at times. Above and beyond all this, the season was based on enjoyment and giving each player a fair go at batting and bowling; although, as the season went on, bowling was the preferred option.

It is another level of ability after playing under 12’s to under 14’s. Consistent good technique and mental attitude becomes vital to being competitive and winning games.

A couple of boy’s had their first season of cricket, others were ‘seasoned’ players, and so with this combination, the team blended really well, with each player having a unique batting, bowling and fielding ability and so respecting each other’s abilities.

Individual performances can be viewed in the matrix.

NATHAN ALLEN – Nathan started the season as a batsman, based on previous seasons, and by the end, was favouring the bowling. A natural hard hitter, Nathan accumulated his runs mostly in boundaries, saving his energy! His bowling was consistently tight and didn’t give the batsmen too much width. Nathan, you are a naturally gifted hard hitting batsmen, back yourself, maintain a sound technique, be patient and you will be a run making machine in coming seasons! Thank you for an enjoyable season mate.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 72

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 73

LAYTHEN CARLISLE – Laythen’s cricket has gradually developed over the past seasons, and this year was a turning point. Maybe he was more relaxed in the absence of his coach of previous years! Laythen was an example of how good solid training sessions and being prepared to listen and learn, convert into much improved overall performance on the field. Laythen shared in several batting partnerships that showed his mental toughness and ability. It was his bowling that really stood out this year with wickets and minimal runs scored against him. A player with obvious passion for the game and a real team player. Thank you Laythen for a tough, but enjoyable season mate.

COOPER DUFFY – This was Cooper’s first season of cricket, and coming from a baseball background, Cooper had a lot to offer the team. A real natural transition into cricket, Cooper took catches, wickets, scored runs with hard hitting and his steady accurate bowling got him wickets. Cooper mainly fielded at point, ideal, as he was quick across the field to cover position. A strong and accurate throwing arm always made the batsmen think twice before running. A real commitment to the team and enjoyment for cricket. Thank you Cooper and well done on a great start to cricket.

ADAM GARMENT – Adam, this was your season. With practice, confidence and self belief, the season just got better and better for you, with the bat and ball. Adam was always prepared to listen and learn how to improve his game and tirelessly work on his bowling that was a real highlight. Adam played with an enjoyment and along with that, came runs, wickets and catches. As your technique continues to improve, there will be even better results for you next season. A rewarding season for a player who loves his cricket with every season he plays. Great effort Adam, keep up the training.

HAMISH JACKA – Hamish’s passion for cricket spilled out onto the sideline with opposition parents even saying how loud he is and how he keeps motivating the team and playing the game hard, but fair. Hamish is a player whose enthusiasm is contagious, and backed up by his talent. Hamish was the wicket keeper for most of the season, taking some sharp catches, making a number of great stumping’s off the spinner and involved with run outs. Although a quieter season with the bat, Hamish shared in several solid partnerships, batting at the top and middle of the order and taking wickets with his leg spinners. Hamish is an example of how important the wicket keeper is in bringing the team together and with his obvious passion for cricket; more success is not far away.

JAMES LOCKE – James joined us after playing at Como-Jannali. A well balanced all round cricketer who contributes with the bat and ball. James thinks a lot about his cricket and is very good at reading the game and offer ideas about how to get a batsman out and stopping the opposition from scoring runs. James had a number of promising starts with the bat and shared in steady partnerships. As he refines his skills, particularly his feet work, there will be plenty of runs coming off the bat and big scores ahead. It was great to have you on board this season James. Thank you for being part of a great season with the boy’s.

HARRY LONG – What can you say about Harry; 100 miles an hour, all the way! A great eye, a natural athlete, 110% in all he does. If he just turned down his enthusiasm a little, well, he’d be the absolute complete package. Harry always gave everything; bat and ball. Harry took many wickets with his fast bowling, leaving many a batsman ducking and weaving. His commitment in the field saved us many runs, along with some great catches and very strong throwing. The enthusiasm in which you play the game Harry is obvious; you are a real team player. A naturally gifted athlete, let’s hope you are back again next season. Thank you for your efforts, commitment and positive attitude.

MATTHEW McNAUGHTON – Matthew started the season as an effective top order batsman and then focused on his bowling to become an effective wicket taker. With is accurate swing bowling, Matthew frustrated the batsmen on many occasions, resulting in taking wickets at key stages. A strong throwing arm also made batsmen think twice before taking runs after the ball went to Matthew. Matthew showed he has the technique and ability to be an effective top order batsman. Well done Matthew on a good season.

LACHLAN MILLER – A player with a lot of talent and ability with bat and ball, and a very good reader of the game; Lachlan scored runs, took wickets and catches. Always in the game, Lachlan can read the situation of a match and adapt his batting and bowling accordingly and offer suggestions for fielding placements. Lachlan was also very aware of where our fieldsmen were placed and would move the players to fill the games in order to dry up the opposition runs. Lachlan shared in a number of very productive batting partnerships during the season, crafting his innings with skill and patience. Congratulations on a great season Lachlan, with bat and ball; you did yourself proud.

ZANE PIGGOTT – Zane’s all round cricketing game continued to develop during the season. After a number of well-constructed innings, particularly with some hard hitting boundaries, Zane was elevated up the batting order. In the field, Zane was agile, taking a number of catches and was quick to a moving ball and strong return throws. With more concentration on technique, Zane is another run making machine in the waiting. You’ve been a really good team player throughout the season Zane, thanks for your enthusiasm and efforts. Well done mate.

JACKSON ROSS – Jackson’s first season of cricket, and if ever someone has natural talent to burn, it’s Jackson. A natural athlete, with his fluent run up, height and slight build, Jackson is a fast bowler in the making. A good eye and timer of the ball, Jackson also showed he can hit a ball hard and score runs. Jackson is a very positive player, was always prepared to take advice in order to improve his game, with the number of wickets taken, testament to how his game improved. Jackson you are a pleasure to coach, you’re enjoyment of the game is infectious and a great team player. Congratulations on your first season; any coach would want to have you in their team.

JARRAD WOOD – Jarrad has talent to burn and them some more. If it wasn’t for some very dubious umpiring decisions this season, your batting aggregate would have been so much more. Runs, wickets and catches, you were always in the game. A beautiful timer of the ball, the straight bat through mid off and cover, the leg side flick off the pads, Jarrad has all the shots. One off the most enthusiastic, talented players I have coached, and an ability to assess the situation of a game, Jarrad is also a natural captain. Congratulations mate on a great season; you deserved so much more success. Cricket, sport, for that matter, works in strange ways, so let’s hope as you move up to under 16’s, next season is your season to truly shine. Thank you for being a great team player and supporting the boy’s. Congratulations and good luck next season Jarrad.

As a team, the 14C-2’s can hold their heads high; you were a champion team during 2015-2016; your professionalism, respect for the opposition and enjoyment of cricket, was obvious to all around you, including opposition teams. Although our success was minimal, you can still be proud of what was accomplished, on and off the field. Thank you Matt Miller for being Manager and helping with the coaching. A big thank you to Stuart McNaughton who did the majority of scoring throughout the season.

Finally, to the parents, grandparents and other family members, thank you for coming to our games and supporting the boy’s. The boy’s attitude to sport is a reflection of those closest to them, and it’s been a pleasure to meet some of you for the first time and get to know you throughout the season. Thank you again for your support.

Thank you for the enjoyable season you gave Matt & me; it was our pleasure to be your coach and manager and we hope you each enjoyed playing this wonderful game called cricket.

See you next season.

14C-2 TEAM REPORT

BRODEY STEVENS – Brodey was a player we could always turn to too lift and encourage the team. It was obvious in the off season he worked hard on his bowling which showed in his results this season. In the field Brodey was always dependable and put in everything he had. Good season buddy.

STEVEN GREEN – The smallest of our new recruits, Steve was one of our biggest players making over 200 runs at opening bat. This was first season of cricket and it was obvious he made the transition over from baseball with ease and has plenty to offer the game of cricket. Opposition teams found it extremely hard to take his wicket and it was unfortunate that most of the time the only player who got him out, was himself. Steve was thrown into keeping this season and did a great job. Such is the talent this kid possesses he can also bowl a mean fast ball which will get more chance to develop next season.

ETHAN PASTOR – One of the new recruits, a nervous Ethan joined the team this season. Ethan’s confidence got knocked around after a few dropped catches early in the season, but his hard work and willingness to learn resulted in him becoming known to possess some of the safest hands in the team. For being the first season of cricket Ethan did a great job. For those music fans out there keep an eye out for Ethan and his band, 57 Minutes, it’s definitely worth a view on YouTube.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 76

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 77

SAMUEL HEALY – Sam possess a one of the better overall batting technique’s in the team and it was unfortunate he didn’t quiet show us all his full potential this season. This is mainly because he chose his pads to protect his wicket and not his bat. With the ball, Sam was always dependable to hit a good line and length. If Sam sticks with cricket and trains hard, he will do one better than the old man and win a Premiership.

HARRISON NOAKES – This season Harrison took the role of opening bat, but somehow always managed to dodge the first ball. Harry had a consistent year, not so much with runs scored, but was always the first to call for a drink after one over in the field. By season’s end Harry proved his worth setting up numerous opening stands to build the necessary foundations of a sold run chase. Congratulations on making your highest score of 44.

JAYDEN LEPLAW – Another star recruit of the offseason, Jayden spent the majority of the season getting the hair out of his eyes. Round 10 came and with it came a new hair cut which enabled Jayden a clear site at the incoming cricket ball. The 18 bucks paid on the haircut was well worth it as it resulted in him hitting his highest score of 33. By season’s end Jayden became very reliable with the older ball and at one stage nearly jagged a hat-trick. A great start to the cricket career and we hope to see you back next season.

NOAH STEWART – Noah is one of the most laid back kids in the team and possesses a lot of natural sporting talent. Even though at times in the field it appeared that Noah was dreaming of his next surfing session, he was quick to focus when a catch was coming his way nabbing six catches this season, which is the highest amount of all the boys. Noah hit a 40 this season which includes many balls being whacked to the boundary.

DANE COURTNEY – It was obvious Dane spent most of the off season in the nets and this hard work paid off. Dane had an amazing season and deserves all the awards he received this season. The first of the boys to score a century this season and took out the Batting award. Great season mate.

LACHLAN MUNRO – Due to an unfortunate skateboarding incident, Lachy missed most of the season with a broken arm. When he made it back on the field he was one to always provide entertainment and relax the mood around the boys, even if it wasn’t always what the coach wanted/needed at the time. A great kid to have in the team and with a little work and concentration has the makings to be a good little cricketer.

BLAKE HOSKING – Blake is one of those lucky kids that just has a raw talent for the game of cricket. Blake could often be found discussing girls he was hoping to win over at school rather than putting in at training. Come game day Blake could always be counted on to take the ball and snag a wicket with his variety. A definite character of the team and hopefully we see him back next season.

JOSHUA SMITH – Josh is one of the smallest members of the team but has put some massive efforts throughout the season. Josh worked hard on his batting and put into practice any advice that was given to him. When it came time to bowl, his change of pace and accuracy caused the opposition plenty of trouble and was the team’s second highest wicket taker with 10 wickets. Joshua is a great kid to have in the team and a pleasure to coach.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 77

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 78

JARED KIDD – Jared was always first to put his hand up when the team needed a breakthrough with the ball and often worried the opposition batsmen with his fierce erratic bowling action. Jared was forever pushing into the slips cordon until the edges dried up and wanted to be moved to another position where the action was. This was a fine example of his keenness and is something any coach hopes for in a player.

LUCY MUNRO – Without Lucy as manager the team would not function. Chris and Tim walk around pretending they know what they are doing but deep down they aren’t bluffing anyone. Not only did she manage the team she was also the official scorer, Lucy has her own style of scoring which caused many opposition scorers to look somewhat bewildered when comparing scores, although unconventional, it works and that’s all that matters. Hopefully every one of the parents and players reads this report and passes on their thanks for how much time and effort she puts into this team.

Thanks Lucy from both of us.

14D TEAM REPORT

Well, the season has passed & with it goes my first time as coach. The main aim being fun & seeing an improvement in everyone's game.

I'm happy to say that no one disappointed, all the guys focused & got that bit of improvement happening. We may not have won a lot of games, but that isn't important. What is, however, is our ability to want to understand, improve & enjoy our game. The game we did win was worth a cause for celebration anyway!

This team has a lot of positive signs going for it and I've been saying that throughout the season. If we stick together, bond & learn to read each other’s play, I can't see any reason for us not to take out a title next season.

So to these guys...

TAJ ALLEN – A real character, fast & devastating with the ball. Can hold his own when batting. Pulled off some spectacular dives when keeping & has a great arm out in the field.

LACHLAN BRESSINGTON – Whose 'Thommo" style sling bowling has got to be recognised as a future form of terror to opposing batsmen. And, when not under pressure, can swing a bat. Also doing a fine job when keeping.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 79

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 80

KYLE EBDON – Whose flowing, growing & graceful ability with the bat, developing great technique during backyard practice! was matched by his remarkable improvement in line & length with the ball.

AUSTIN FURLONG – One of the real gentlemen to play this gentlemen’s game, has made an obvious improvement with both ball & bat this season. Appears to have a decent batting style emerging. Always kind, courteous & listens to advice when given.

JAKE HUNTER – One of the most consistent players. Great line & length continuously, not giving away to many runs or extras. Got lots of our runs on the board throughout this competition & showed great hands in the field.

ETHAN NANCE – Another gentleman of the game. A top quick bowler who can get it to move around. Another also with a graceful batting style that can lead to runs. Great on the field. Pleasure to coach.

SEAN RICHARDS – Quietly confident & able, a player that showed enthusiasm & through that openly improved. Definitely has a growing ability to be able to swing a ball, I'm sure this will be improved upon. Really showing technique when batting, head over the ball. Great stuff.

LUCAS RYAN – Without doubt was one of the most improved players this season. Being able to hold out some decent bowling with nice developing batting style & by the end of the season, was able to deliver a very sweet quick ball.

JAY SAVANIA – Has an excellent ability to get bat on ball, which came in very handy when we needed it. Able to stay out on the pitch & support other batsmen out there. Has a nice, steady delivery as a bowler which payed off with a few wickets.

DOM SPOWART – KABOOM...The guy with the bat that's nearly bigger than him !... well, nearly as big as the ticker he showed when trying to drive bowlers out of the park, bowl stumps out of the ground or keep the wickets like a demon.

THAL WHEATLEY – Who enthusiastically filled in & played hard for us, basically to the point of being counted as one of us too, thanks for your effort. Your bowling, batting & fielding, all of which alone is outstanding, really helped out.

NATHAN EBDON – Who, with his little quiet but able attitude, filled in with batting & fielding for us, Thanks mate.

Thanks for being the team that gave me the first opportunity to coach a game that I love playing & enjoy being a part of.

Big thanks to Matt Richards for managing, scoring & entering scores.

Thanks to all the parents that helped train, score, deliver players to games & for just generally being there. I've enjoyed meeting you all & I hope we may all be able to continue this next season.

16A TEAM REPORT

I think this year’s coaching of the Engadine 16A team was one of my hardest in thirty four years of coaching teams at any level.

We started the season off with nine players, YES nine players in 16A’s, which is quite ridiculous. We also had Dylan suffer a stress fracture in his foot, which meant that when he returned he was unable to wicket keep or bowl, to top that off we had a player who choose to go mountain biking halfway through the season.

I must mention to all parents who registers a child in any sport, once you make a commitment to a team, please fulfil that commitment, as your child is letting down their team mates badly when they have to play short.

After six rounds we only had 14 points and were running last, but then won the remaining four matches and proved that miracles do happen by finishing the season as Minor Premiers, so very well done boys on your efforts and improvement.

For the final we had to bring up two boys to help out, but in the end we lost to DLS Seagulls. We were right in the match with all the boys trying very hard and if a few things had fallen our way the result could have been very different, but it wasn’t to be and DLS were deserved Premiers.

Ian and I are extremely grateful to Jacob Mifsud and Brad Simpson for helping us out. Jacob in the Round No.10 formed a great last wicket partnership with Cam hitting the winning runs that got the team into the Final. Brad was superb in the Final winning the match ball for his 4 for 15 off 10 overs.

Thank you to both of you.

Boys I wish all you all everything good for your future in whatever you choose to do.

THE TEAM

NICK – Our captain always led by example and had a wonderful year at club and representative level. In what was a very tough season Nick did an outstanding job for me and his team as leading run scorer and wicket taker and along the way broke the all time Club Bowling Average Record. As a reward for all his hard work and commitment this season he was selected in the Cricket NSW U16 Metropolitan team and the AW Green Shield Merit Team. To be honest the team made the Final on the back of Nick’s runs and wickets, so well done indeed mate.

ALEX – My second year of coaching Alex and could not ask for a better kid to have in your team. Always gave his best whether batting, bowling or in the field. Perhaps hoping for a more consistent season, but remember Alex keep doing the hard work and you will get there. His bowling got better and better as the season progressed and had all batsmen struggling. Alex saved his best for the Final top scoring with the bat and was nearly impossible to score off with the ball. Thanks Alex.

DYLAN – Like Alex this is my second year of taking Dylan and I must say apart from being a lovely kid he always gives 100%, especially in the field where he excelled this season. Dylan was the team’s second highest run scorer and has an awful lot of ability, but I was frustrated, as I’m sure Dylan was that he got out on a few occasions when he looked like he was in for a big score. Keep working hard on your footwork mate and the runs you deserve will come your way. Thanks Dylan.

CAMERON – My little mate Cameo what a season he had for us. His enthusiasm and effort week in week out was just fabulous. Not to mention his and Jacobs last wicket partnership when all was lost to beat St. Pats and get us into the Final. His bowling every week was miserly and kept an end tight for us. His batting came on in leaps and bounds and I feel it could really develop if you work hard on it Cameron. An absolute pleasure to be around and I will miss him.

JOSH – A new boy to Engadine and Josh I feel had a very good season. Because of Dylan’s injury Josh found himself wicket keeping and did a tremendous job for us. Josh is a first year boy who was experiencing his first year in 16A’s and I feel will be a far better player for it next season especially his batting if he moves his feet.

LOUIS – Our opening bowler and a boy with tremendous potential if only he would focus on the job at hand and not all the uncontrollable things going on around him. Louis did a fabulous job for us and I feel really hit his straps after Christmas when his bowling really made inroads into the opposition’s top order. As with his bowling he has potential with the bat but needs more focus. Thank you Lou for a very good season and I wish you well.

WILLIAM – Will was another first year boy who went well for us more so before Christmas. William opened the batting and got us off to a good start more often than not. Alas at times footwork got him into trouble against quite quick opening attacks. A pleasure to coach and I hope William I have made you realise there is a lot more to cricket than just having a bat and bowl. Most importantly you’re fielding needs to be worked on all the time and in turn it will help your batting.

ANDREW – What to say about my old mate Andrew? I have been lucky enough to coach and have Andrew in Reps and privately since he was eleven years of age. A nicer kid it would be hard to find with so much talent, but won’t let it all out in my opinion. He is a very good bat, great bowler who moves the ball, extremely good fielder with beautiful hands in any position. Andrew for his first year in 16A’s had a terrific year, but I feel it could have, and in my opinion should have been so much better. So many times he did all the hard work seeing off the opening bowlers only to give his wicket away softly and I always felt for him. Andrew will be an exceptional cricketer when he just backs himself.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 83

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 84

BRADLEY – Brads first year in 16A’s and he did well. Took wickets and fielded very well in the gully taking some good catches. Brad shows promise with the bat and worked extremely hard in the nets, but coming from B grade to A grade is quite difficult at this age. I sincerely hope Bradley you enjoyed your season and I taught you a little about how to play cricket. I really enjoyed your company mate thank you.

RITHIK – One of our opening bowlers and did a fantastic job for us as the team’s second highest wicket taker. Like Bradley his first year in A grade and I think was a bit intimidated at first before realising he was capable of performing at this level. Great trainer and never let us down in the field. His batting I feel came on in leaps and bounds. I really enjoyed my season with you mate. Good luck in the future.

To Ian Latham an absolute stalwart of Engadine Dragons and has always been so much help and encouragement to me, thank you Ian, you are a champion.

I would like to thank Brian for managing the team and to all the parents that were on hand to set up and score week in week out thank you very much. You know who you are. Well boys all that is left for me to do is thank you once more.

Peter Schofield.

As this has been Peter’s last season of coaching club teams for the Dragons I would like to thank him on behalf of our Club and all of the boys that he has coached over his six seasons with the Club. Peter is an outstanding coach and motivator and personally I have learnt a great deal from my association with him over the past five seasons. I have never met a person that is so passionate about every aspect of the game of cricket and the skills and knowledge that he has passed on to charges will be invaluable to their cricketing careers. His amazing record with the Club stands at 6 x seasons – 1 x 10A Premiership, 4 x 16A Premierships and 1 x 16A Runners Up.

Schoie enjoy watching your grand children play sport on Saturday mornings.

16C TEAM REPORT

RYAN COLLINS – After a year off cricket, Ryan returned with a fantastic season. He scored over 200 runs as an opener and took more wickets than anyone else in the team, even though half of the time he had the wicket keepers gloves on.

LUKE GOODMAN – Luke’s enthusiasm in the field and dedication saw him make significant improvements as the season progressed. He was one of our most accurate bowlers and often trusted as the person to bowl the final overs.

NATHAN HALL – Nathan was a live wire in the field and was keen to contribute to the team with either bat or ball.

WILL HICKEY – Will joined the team a couple of weeks late, but his lack of an off-season didn’t hinder him. With 5 catches and a run out, Will really shined in the field.

DAKOTA JATTAN – Dakota’s energy in the field was contagious. Dakota’s quick bowling was always difficult for opposition batsman, with him taking 6 wickets throughout the season.

JUM JITPRUNG – Jum was the other regular opener for the season. He quite often saw off the new ball, with other players then taking advantage of his hard work.

KIERAN MCNAMARA – Kieran was the other half of our wicket keeping combination. His versatility saw him also contributing with the ball and bat throughout the season.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 85

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 86

JESSE MICHEL – Jesse was our top scorer with the bat this season, with a massive 341 runs. He also took 11 wickets and 5 catches and gained representative honours in the U15s Presidents team. Unfortunately this is his last season with Dragons as he now lives on the other side of the city.

WILLIAM RUSSELL – William debuted in cricket this year and quickly became a dangerous fast bowler, with opponents struggling to cope with his good length ball coming from such a high height. Williams batting improved throughout the season with a high score of 28.

BEN SPOWART – Ben was one of our more consistent members of the team. He always tried his best and was particular effective as a bowler near the end of the innings.

SEAN STEPHEN – Sean regularly opened the bowling this season, with his accurate pace bowling hard for opposition teams to get a hold of. He was also solid in the field with 6 catches and made some solid contributions with the bat.

A1 TEAM REPORT

It came as a great surprise that a team whose core group came 5th in the B2 competition the previous season would find themselves battling it out in the A1 comp. From the get go we knew we were going to be tested like never before and to the credit of the boys they definitely took up the challenge head on. From the lowly depths of an embarrassing outright loss in round 1 to our first win in Rd 11 there were plenty of bright sparks and fun times along the way.

The notable performances include Craig taking 6 for and 4 for during the middle of the season, Dean and Michael making 50’s, Milky getting his first catch in cricket in the last round and Joff taking some absolute screamers behind the stumps. Other notable performances include Alex being involved in 2 hattricks, in the same game, James spilling about 5 chances in the one game when we actually had a total to defend and when I accidentally took a practice ball out (that swung like a swing king) instead of an actual match ball. Even though we recorded just 1 win, the rain ensured we missed 2 chances to beat the team ranked below us and some poor fielding didn’t help either. It was very encouraging to see everyone turn up each week with the right attitude. Guys bowling their hearts out and none more so than Adam, who just steams in all day long. Others were putting their heads down trying to bat for as long as possible and everyone else enjoyed each other’s company like Dave who would always end up standing right next to someone.

It could have been easy for the team to get bogged down in defeat after defeat but to their credit they turned up each week prepared to at least make the other team work for the result.

Better luck next season guys, the team is definitely capable of getting a few more wins.

A2-1 TEAM REPORT

A new season, a new captain and some new recruits had the making to a successful season. And I suppose in a way it was successful, in that we successfully dominated the other Engadine Dragons team in the comp. Unfortunately, this was our only success throughout the season and we struggled to get eleven guys on the field to be competitive.

None the less this season brought change and provided a much better social platform from seasons past. The new recruits implemented the beer esky which was well received from the guys and will continue to play a part in the upcoming seasons. We look forward to some big names returning next season to get our batting back to its semi solid state. The bowlers again did a great job throughout the season giving their all to keep us in the game.

Congratulations to all the award winners and a big thanks to Dunco who was thrown the captaincy this year after others decided to get married. With little experience in the role he did well to control the boys and I hope he enjoyed his time. He has already expressed that he won’t be returning in the main role next season but will as always play a major role in the team.

Tim Russell.

A2-2 TEAM REPORT

Not a bad year fellas, at least we finished higher on the ladder than the other Engadine side.

A welcome back to Andrew Jones who proved to be our most consistent performer with a total of 26 wickets @13.31 and 161 runs @ 23, well done mate on a great year.

Nice to see some new faces, Steve Holz, Brett Bullock, and Lee Bailey into the side thanks for a great year guys hope you enjoyed the season and look forward to seeing you again next season.

Big thanks to our super subs during the year, Josh Berry, Josh Kedwell, Mitchell Aitken, Michael Daly, and John Mifsud, cheers fellas.

To the regulars thanks again for a great year really enjoyed the cricket and the mateship we have on and off the field, that’s what cricket is about.

BRETT ADAMS – 3 Matches: Hub loves his cricket limited opportunities, works too hard.

LEE BAILEY – 8 Matches: Great team man, handy bat, does need some work on his fielding.

COLIN BERRY – 11 matches: Great 5 for, loves to score handy No 10.

TIM BERRY – 7 matches: 339 not out, what else can you say.

BRETT BULLOCK – 5 matches: loves to eat flies at cricket, doesn’t help with the bowling.

ANTHONY CAMPEY – 7 matches: loved his travel more than his cricket this season. Hard to track him down.

SAMUEL DENT – 8 matches: Fittest man in the side, change nothing mate, can’t say anymore.

STEVE HERRON – 10 matches: Most improved player, broke down late in the season.

STEVE HOLZ – 6 matches: Best beard in the comp, handy bat and bowler.

ANDREW JONES – 10 matches: Sorry mate not as fit as Sam, good year though

DREW LAKE – 5 matches: Part time player, handy cricketer on appearance.

DARREN MCINERNY – 5 matches: Mr Elastic, dislocates limbs in mid stride, off season training required.

MARTIN MCKENZIE – 12 matches: Always there, struggled with the bat, but again leading catches with 11, might change fielding position next season.

NATHAN MORANDO – ½ a match: WHO?

B1 TEAM REPORT

A season of near misses is all we can say for this season. We let a few games get away from us and in the end that probably cost us a spot in the finals, but the main thing is we all had fun and played as a team the whole year long.

The year started off with a not so good outright loss, and we ended the season with 14 games played, 2 outright wins (equal most in the comp), 3 first innings wins, 1 Draws 2, Byes 4, first innings losses 1, outright loss and a tie.

Everyone in the team contributed in one way or another during the season and that’s what makes our team so successful, I look forward to next season and hope to see you all there again.

We had a pretty successful year in 2015/2016. We finished as minor premiers but unfortunately lost the grand final. Mick Daly was our best with the ball and Eddy Douglas had his best year with the bat.

We shared the workload around and welcomed a couple of new players. Carlos, Daz and Eddy provided plenty of highlights. The BBQ’s were the standout and our on field talk has grown to greater levels.

Our greatest win was against Bangor in September. After losing the 1st innings we went on to win outright! The boys have put in a lot of hard work and we all look forward to going one better next year. It’s great to catch up with good mates each week and play a game we all enjoy.

See you next season

After going up a few grades we all had mixed feelings at the start of the season, but we can hold our heads high getting into another final.

After the old guys carried us through the start of the season with a win here and there it wasn’t until the young guys got on the field after their studies and we never lost a game after Christmas until the final.

What a great effort and the way the young guys stepped up this year was great to watch.

To the new guys who joined the team this season John, Cam, Dave, Ryno, Andrew, Neddy thanks for the top efforts.

Also thanks to all the great support from families and friends.

Looking forward to next season.

All the best John Westlake.

B6 TEAM REPORT

Was another great year for the boys, claiming first place, although we fell agonisingly short of the premiership. After losing the Captain halfway through the season was a major setback, but the rest of the boys stood up and proved to everyone that we are still a strong force to contend with and win matches despite losing a key player. The guys fought hard all year and deserved every success that we obtained throughout the year.

The team this year was:

MITCH – The designated fieldsman, whilst only bowling the one over in the year, decided to make it count with 11 balls in the over. He was the only player available every week and proved himself extremely useful in the field.

MERRY – Stepped up as the Captain halfway through the year and led the side from the front with a good season personally.

CAM – Always put in for the team and never let anybody down. He never looked comfortable when a catch was hit towards him but always managed to catch the ball.

TRENT – We missed the Trentalfloss special in the final this year, could have easily used a short pitched mullygrubber. Safe hands in the field and reliable to shake things up a little with ball in hand and also provided some crucial knocks in the middle order.

JAMES – The oldest bloke in the team this year, was a bit unlucky not to claim more wickets this year but the spoils he managed in the final of 4/12 were a fairer representation of his bowling ability.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 95

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 96

BRAYDEN – The Backbone of the side this year, amassing 426 runs and 27 wickets for the year. He stepped up when it was required of him and was critical in the teams’ progression into the final.

JACOB – The mid-season recruit opened his account with consecutive 50’s. He provided an important stability in the top order late in the season.

KEATSY – A team player who was content with allowing others to take charge and never let anybody down. He always put in for the team.

KEDWELL – He was held up with the navy for large parts of the year, but always gave a massive boost to the games that he played. Provided some lively spells of fast bowling that was able to lift the side in the field, and also provided some entertaining knocks at the top of the order, claiming the highest score in the final.

JOSH K – Always provided quality banter out in the field and was a key reason for the laughs both on and off the field. If only he targeted the opposition more than CP. Provided some entertaining innings late in the game by managing to connect even after he stepped a foot down leg.

JOSH MC – Couldn’t managed a run this year but came through with the ball after being asked to bowl the 3rd last over with 8 runs required. It is not often that someone will get more wickets than runs in a year.

MACCA – The wicketkeeper for the season taking a solid 9 catches behind the stumps. He was injured for the first part of the year but came back early when the team really needed him. The importance of Macca’s keeping could not be measured in the scorebook for our team. He also stepped up as captain in the last round.

JACKO – Being the primary spinner of the team was a scary prospect, but after a blistering start to the season he proved his worth. Provided a nice change from the pace attack and developed his bowling, by working hard, to become a dependable spin bowler.

CP – Was at almost every game this year and was a treat to have as a player, always happy to Bat wherever he was asked whether it was opening the batting or down in the lower order. Had a real knack of taking wickets and could be passed the ball for a short spell when a breakthrough was needed.

TIM ROSS – He missed half the season due to living away from the area, outside of the University semester, but that didn’t stop him from being at the nets whenever there was discussion of training or any hit out, Tim was one of the first to get to the nets for a hit. Unfortunately for Tim the hard work he spent this year didn’t convert into stats, but the game is not all about stats.

BODIE – He has always eager for a game, constantly reminding everyone of his availability. Helped out in crucial matches when our team had dwindled and was always willing to come and field to give one of the boys a rest.

Ryan, Lanky and Matt Lister all deserve a mention as they each played varying amounts of matches and would help out when we were short. Especially Lanky who volunteered to score for us on multiple occasions even before he registered in our team.

Special thanks to Jerry who filled in for us a couple of games from the C2’s.

One last player who deserves a mention is Tim. Whilst he only played the first half of the season, he put on an absolute batting master class as he amassed 5 centuries and totalled 928 runs. This including his 339* that will forever be remembered by all of those who were at the ground that afternoon, it was a privilege to watch such a spectacular innings, luckily I had the best seat in the house for most of it.

Tim’s efforts for our team extend beyond the runs that he scored. He was responsible for organising the team each week and made the transition of captaincy even easier. Deserves a massive amount of credit for the success of the team this year, and each success we had Tim deserved. See you all next year boys.

Matt Berry.

C2 TEAM REPORT

What a great year. To play with some of the young blokes you’ve coached for a long time and win the comp with them was an awesome feeling and I think I can vouch for Johnny too. Thinking about it still gives me a high.

We had a squad of 18 and all 18 contributed in some shape or form. We had a lot of good performers during the year so I won’t single any out.

A quick shout out to Johnny, Keelan and JB for helping with the captaincy along the way. The whole season spending Saturday afternoons with you boys was enjoyable and was topped off by a great win in the semi and then in the grand final. It’s never over until they get the last run, you never gave up. See you all in the nets next season.

ANGUS BROWN – Took a stack of wickets with his lanky frame, dropping the ball in from his six foot four height, ‘dead eye dick’ Browny. Bowing on the spot almost every ball all year. Scored a 48, which should have been 50 too.

ALEX LINTON – Bowled well and batted well, back to medium pace this year and took some good wickets, a good team man.

IAN LINTON – The highlight was definitely not tearing the hamstring in his second over of the season. Bowled on the spot and a reliable batsman. Ian helped out wherever needed.

JOSH BERRY – Great all-rounder. Took wickets, scored runs, has great foresight and knowledge on the field, man of the match in both semi and GF. What more can I say. Consistent all season. Took the catch of the year in game one fielding at gully.

FYNN RODGERS – Another superstar performer in the semi and GF, a saviour with the bat in the GF. Bowled great line and length all season and it was great to see Fynn reap some rewards in the finals games.

JACOB MIFSUD – Batted and bowled well all year round. Held the innings together in the semi to help secure the win and get us to the GF. Took some good catches and was always reliable in the field.

KEELAN JENKINS – Our keeper and he excelled. Great effort considering Keelan only picked up the gloves in the last year of juniors. Good with the bat too.

LACHLAN SKILLCORN – Tough as nails and held his own opening the batting. Also took a wicket when he bowled.

NEIL SKILLCORN – Showed some prowess with the ball and took a couple of wickets when he bowled. Not sure who was more excited Skilly Snr or Skilly Jnr.

JOHN MIFSUD – Scored plenty of runs, batting in the top 4 all year. Strong batsman, can always be relied upon. Great in the field and also handy with the ball. I think the whole team was happy that Johnny was under the catch for the last wicket in the GF.

MATTHEW JONES – Started the season with a bad back, rested and came back strong taking plenty of wickets in the back half of the season. Left arm quick that gathered momentum as the season went. Scored valuable runs in the GF with Browny.

MATTHEW QUINNELL – Started the season batting at 6 and 7 and ended as our opener and succeeded, scoring 40 in the GF. Very sharp fielder took plenty of catches and bowled some quality overs during the season.

TODD SHEPHERD – Our best bat, scored a tonne of runs and took some key wickets. Bowled great in the GF taking 3 of their top 6 batsmen. Not much he can’t do, great season Toddy.

ENGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 99

E NGADINE DRAGON CRICKET CLUB Page 100

ZACH HUGHES – Bowled well, batted well and can field when the ball comes to him. Wherever we put ‘Hughesy ‘the ball seemed to go in the other direction. Every team needs a cheeky ‘Hughesy’ in it.

ALAN JENKINS – I think the highlight for Jenko was the 7 catches the Jenkins clan took in a game. Great team player and great bloke to have as part of the team.

STEVE AQUEL – Our opening batsmen, scored plenty of runs until he bought a new bat, take it back! Good cricket brain. Filled in as our keeper, took some good catches in slips and a quality player.

GREG QUINNELL – Another great team player, always there and enjoyed being part of the team. Scored nearly as many runs as his young bloke on a couple of occasions, loved having him part of the team.

Such a great feeling for dads to play with their sons, bring on next season.

Scott Jones.
