Congratulations to all the Premiers & Runners Up and to the individual trophy winners. Thank you to our Secretary Michael Mooney for all his assistance throughout the season. It’s a hard job and Michael did an exemplary job. A big thank you to Allan Lofthouse who kept the Association results. Some captains need to ensure their results are entered correctly and on time to make Allan’s job easier, but he did a sterling job with that hindrance. I would like to take this opportunity to thank David Dee who is standing down after More than 50 years involvement in cricket in the Shire both as a player & an administrator. David has made a huge contribution to cricket in the Shire and without his hard work cricket would not be where it is today, I have valued his advice & guidance over the time I have been involved with the Association & I personally will miss his presence. Thanks to Lance Taylor for making the Association is financially secure and thanks to our Vice Presidents Dean Martin and Adrian Steffani for their help & guidance throughout the year and to all the others members of the Executive my sincere thanks for all your efforts over the past season. My thanks to the Junior Association and the Grade club for their continued support. I must express my thanks to Jim Lynch President of the umpires Association and Lance Taylor the umpires delegate for their co-operation and support during the season. This season we entered a Durham Shield team only for the representative season and they performed very well making the final against Hornsby well done boys, it would be good if we could add a Martin & Telegraph Shield teams next season. Last but not least my thanks to Sutherland Shire Council for their assistance with the grounds during the season, especially the parks & playground officers Kirin Lindop, Daniel Ristic & Emi Skopal. In conclusion, I hope you enjoy the off season and I hope to see you all back for season 2014/15 Noel Taplin President SECRETARYS REPORT Having had the opportunity to read the reports of Noel Taplin and Allan Lofthouse There is nothing I would add regarding the season just completed. Thank you to the work put in by all committee members to ensure that the SSCA competitions are run smoothly for the benefit of all players. Your commitment and contributions are very much appreciated. Once again there were some minor disruptions while Council carried out necessary ground improvements as part of the ongoing 5 year plan in conjunction with the SSJCA and Sutherland Council. There will be major upgrades this season at Kareela and Seymour Shaw which will further improve the quality of grounds we have available. My thanks to David Dee for his sage advice and friendship over my time with the Association. Unfortunately David’s health is not the best at the moment and he feels that he would not be able to contribute by standing again for the Association committee. David has provided well over 50 years’ service to the Association as a player, representative player and administrator. On more than one occasion he has been the calm voice of reason. His many years as Secretary, Recorder and committee positions gave him a unique understanding for the successful running of this Association. I wish him and Carol all the best for the future and I know that I will be able to consult with him when needed in years to come. Thank you to our major sponsor Kookaburra, to Sutherland Council for their on-going support of cricket in the Shire. Special thanks to Tom Croucher for assistance with Cricket On-Line and liaison with Council. Congratulations to all premiership winning teams and individual award winners for the season We sadly record the passing of two stalwarts of Sutherland Shire cricket in Vince Ridge and Barry Davison. A farewell message is printed elsewhere in this report. Lance Taylor Davyd Berry Treasurer Auditor SSCA RECORDER AND COMPETITION MANAGER’S REPORT The 2013/14 cricket season, being a unique “Double Ashes Season,” saw the number of SSCA teams increase from last season’s low of only 68 teams to an improved 75 teams in 10 grades of 7 teams & with the B4 grade being a 5 team competition. Overall there was an increase of 167 registrations that saw player numbers rise up to a total 1,414 registrations for the season. There was a marked increase in the numbers of late registrations recorded after the official SSCA Registration/Team Nomination date on 12 August, 2013. Admittedly there were a couple of clubs that had nominations entered after this registration date because they were not sure of their official numbers at the time, but this also saw a blowout in the total numbers of these late registrations. There were a total of 416 late registrations recorded after 12 August (41% of the original numbers registering) with around 190 of these registered after the commencement of the SSCA Competitions (13% of total registrations). Owing to the very large increase of the late registrations, & the extra work involved in monitoring & recording them, the committee hopes that all clubs can have the bulk of their players registered much earlier next season & preferably before the nominations go in. This will enable better grading assessments to be made by the committee. At the conclusion of the season proper, 11 of the 16 affiliated Clubs qualifying for & being represented by their teams in the Semi-Finals/Finals games to be played in early March. Congratulations to those teams in achieving these results. Minor Premiers’ & Finals’ winners plus the names of all of the SSCA & Grades’ Awards’ winners are published in this Annual Report.
