This approach to our game starts from our Milo Have-A Go program co-ordinated by Adam Thomas through to our Under 8’s a to Under 16 competitions right through to our seniors. In addition, as with all years, there is much that also goes on behind the scenes by many people to enable our cricketers to take the field and I’m very grateful for these ever passionate volunteers for their time and energies. As a Club, we continue our strive to 'Increase Participation in Cricket' and to this extent, Springwood Cricket Club remains one of the strongest contributors to our local area. Through this participation, I continually see great performances from individuals right across sides, not just the standout crickets in each team. Congratulations to all our players who competed this year. Also, a big thank you to all our volunteers including the Junior coaches and managers and the Senior Captains (and managers) and the Have-A- Go Volunteers. The fact that these individuals step forward and take on these roles means a better season for us all - so thank you. This year we were all affected by the terrible bush fires that took place in October with a number of our own Springwood Cricket families directly impacted. Through the rallying of our club and the coming together of the cricket community, we were able to help these devastated families getting back on the cricket field and providing a little bit of relief in an otherwise terrible time. This was one of the proudest moments for me as President of this great club. Once again our Legends night was a fantastic event and I’d like to again thank Frank McDermott for all his tireless work with this event. I would also like to also acknowledge our great committee. It’s been another pleasurable year running the club with such a great bunch of people. And lastly, thank you to all who supported our club this season. I am very proud to have been president of this club during another fantastic year and I look forward to seeing you all back for season 2014/15. Yours in cricket, David Williams President, Springwood Cricket Club 4 JUNIOR PERPETUAL TROPHY WINNERS JUNIOR CRICKETER OF THE YEAR: Daniel Smith This season’s Junior cricketer of the year had a great season, leading his side from the front each week. Whether it was batting, bowling or fielding, Daniel performed with distinction. He scored 252 runs at an average of 50.4 and in the process scoring his maiden century (127no), took 4 wickets at 23.8 with the ball and was responsible for taking 4 catches. His highlight of the year was making a fantastic 127no which included 23 boundaries. MOST PROMISING JUNIOR CRICKETER: Kane Jackson Kane had a great season in the U12’s, contributing heavily to ensure that his team had a successful season. His batting netted him 322 runs at an average of 80.5, including a highest score of 52. His safe hands held 5 catches and his bowling was the absolute standout as he took 18 wickets at 5.2, including 4 for 1 against Penrith R.S.L. PAUSEY SHIELD: Hamish Rogers (Junior Clubman of the Year) The Pausey Shield for Junior Clubman of the Year is not awarded for superb ability on the field, though Hamish did have a solid season both with bat and ball, scoring 206 runs @ 41.2 & taking 10 wickets. What caught the attention of everyone in the club was the way Hamish embodied the spirit of cricket that exists in our club. His sportsmanship was indicative of the way we all would like to play cricket, and see cricket played. His good performances on the field were no more important than the way he went about his ‘work’. Hamish also helped out with the Milo Have-a-Go program this season, as well as supporting the club at it’s annual Back to Springwood Day and supported the senior grades by playing games in 8th and 10h Grade and also helping out by playing Under 16’s when they needed him. 5 2013-2014 CENTURY SCORERS AGE GROUP DATE PLAYER SCORE OPPONENT 16 OPEN 26/10/13 M. We started off the season with a group of young boys and a girl who were all eager and wanting to learn about the game of cricket. We didn’t start off that well with our first couple of matches ending in defeat. That didn’t last long though! As the season progressed, the boys and Milly proved that they were definitely a force to be reckoned with some outstanding batting and bowling performances backed up in the field with some run outs that hit the stumps from side on, and also some screaming catches that I’m sure if caught on tape could’ve quite easily made it onto KFC’s classic catches. It was a great honour Coaching them. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will be looking forward to next season. Thank you to all the parents for being such a great help in getting the kids to and from training and to the games as well. And most of all a BIG thankyou to Clive my manager for doing such a great job in getting emails and match details out to the parents. Matthew Sullivan: Matt was one of our very skilled batsmen who was always looking to hit runs and score boundaries. Matt bowls very well too bringing in some real heat with the ball that was always getting the opposition batsmen jumping. Joel Golder: Joel did exceptionally well this season with bat, ball and some very sharp fielding. With the willow, he was always aware and ready. If the bowler put the ball in his area, Joel sent it flying to the boundary. With the ball, Joel bowled some absolutely awesome overs and was always making the batsmen think about how he was going to get around this very skilful bowler. Michael Dillen: Michael this season proved that he was easily one of the best with calling and running between the wicket. Whilst batting, Michael was constantly alert for the quick single and when given the opportunity, he’d scream “YES” at the top of his lungs and take off. When bowling, Michael showed that everything was not about pace and with some very accurate line and length got himself a few wickets this season. Jack Pohlmann: Jack was one of our most improved players in all the different aspects of the game. When batting, he ran very well between the wickets and was always ready to pounce on a bowlers bad ball. Whilst bowling, Jack was always trying to figure out the batsmen’s weakness and he bowled with pin point precision. Millana Wylie: Milly this season showed that with the ball she was one of the best. Using her height she discovered how to swing the ball back into the batsmen often knocking many a middle stump out. Milly also did well with the bat this season hitting the ball along the ground well and being involved in some good partnerships. Milly also made a Penrith Rep team, so not a bad first year of cricket. 7 Jacob Wylie: Jacob was one of the most enthusiastic and keen boys at training and games. Jacob showed some promising signs with the bat this season by hitting the bad ball for four and doing some great running between the wickets. With the ball Jacob worked very hard on his accuracy and by the end of the season, he was hitting great lines and length with unbelievable accuracy on just about every ball. Harry Farrell: Harry was our youngest player this season but showed that he was very capable of keeping up with the bigger boys. With the willow, Harry showed some excellent hand-eye coordination and hit just about every ball that came down the wicket at him.
