A música alcançou a posiçãp #65 na Billboard Hot 100 singles Chart, e posição #1 na Billboard EUA. A canção também é encontrada no jogo Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80’s, e Rock Revolution, e também é usada em um episódio do seriado de TV Supernatural “Bugs”. Integrantes: Klaus Meine (voz), Rudolf Schenker (guitarra), Matthias Jabs (guitarra), Francis Buchholz (baixo), Herman Rarebell (bateria). O baterista “HERMAN RAREBELL” Herman ‘Rarebell’ Erbe, nasceu dia 18 de novembro de 1949, Saarbrucken, Schmelz, Alemanha, e estudou música na Musikhochschule. Mais tarde, mudou-se para a Inglaterra, onde em 1977 entrou para a banda Scorpions, onde tocou até 1995, tendo participado de oito discos. Herman deixou a banda, para abrir sua gravadora em Monte Carlo, a Monaco Records. Herman também contribuiu bastante para o Scorpions, como HERMAN compositor de várias músicas de grande sucesso. RAREBELL Após a sua saída do Scorpions em 1995, ele ficou algum tempo sumido, até tocar com a banda no Wacken Open Air em 2006, época em que anunciou que gravaria um álbum com um projeto seu chamado “Herman Rarebell and Band”. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

Mancuso © 2018 Steven Robert Bellavia All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Andrew Schocket, Advisor This dissertation examines the experiences of the final Cold War generation. I define this cohort as a subset of Generation X born between 1965 and 1971. The primary focus of this dissertation is to study the ways this cohort interacted with the three messages found embedded within the Cold War us vs. them binary. These messages included an emphasis on American exceptionalism, a manufactured and heightened fear of World War III, as well as the othering of the Soviet Union and its people. I begin the dissertation in the 1970s, - during the period of détente- where I examine the cohort’s experiences in elementary school. There they learned who was important within the American mythos and the rituals associated with being an American. This is followed by an examination of 1976’s bicentennial celebration, which focuses on not only the planning for the celebration but also specific events designed to fulfill the two prime directives of the celebration. As the 1980s came around not only did the Cold War change but also the cohort entered high school. Within this stage of this cohorts education, where I focus on the textbooks used by the cohort and the ways these textbooks reinforced notions of patriotism and being an American citizen.

DIE ROCKBAND SCORPIONS Seit den 70er Jahren steht die deutsche Rockband Scorpions auf der Bühne. Hits wie "Rock You Like a Hurricane" oder "Wind of Change" machten sie weltberühmt. You don’t really hear guitar riffs, horns, the band lays down have even tempos and rock arrangements and MAKE: BELIEVE piano or even strings on this record. The sound here is straight syn- aren’t “heavy metal.” Opening with “Make It Real,” the quicker “Don’t Make No The long wait for Krimsha’s full-length thetic, a vibe that, vocals aside, resembles Enigma more than it does, debut album is over.
