SCORPIONS Lovedrive (Hard Rock) SCORPIONS Lovedrive (Hard Rock) Année de sortie : 1979 Nombre de pistes : 8 Durée : 37' Support : CD Provenance : Acheté Nous avons décidé de vous faire découvrir (ou re découvrir) les albums qui ont marqué une époque et qui nous paraissent importants pour comprendre l'évolution de notre style préféré. Nous traiterons de l'album en le réintégrant dans son contexte originel (anecdotes, etc.)... Une chronique qui se veut 100% "passionnée" et "nostalgique" et qui nous l'espérons, vous fera réagir par le biais des commentaires ! Bon voyage ! Avec Lovedrive, SCORPIONS entame la plus extraordinaire trilogie discographique jamais enregistrée par un groupe de Rock allemand. Sans doute est-ce dû au succès rencontré par la tournée mondiale d’où fut tiré le splendide live Tokyo Tapes et qui a enfin apporté une crédibilité internationale aux arthropodes.Sans doute également l’intégration du jeune guitariste Matthias JABS (remplaçant l’excentrique Uli John ROTH, parti fonder ELECTRIC SUN, bien que l’on ressente encore parfois son apport musical) a-t-elle eu une influence sur le résultat final. Sans doute, encore, est-ce le fait de changer de label, passant de RCA à EMI. Sans doute, enfin, que la nationalité même du groupe fut un rempart contre le Punk qui a dévasté les plus grands noms de l’époque. Les conseils du producteur Dieter DIERKS expliquent également certainement le succès fulgurant remporté par ce cinquième album studio des SCORPIONS. Tout autant que la pochette (signée par l’avant-gardiste Hipgnosis) qui, une nouvelle fois (après celle fort décriée et aujourd’hui introuvable de Virgin Killer) fait jaser. Si les meurs ont depuis évolué, le monde, en plein mouvement de libération de la femme, ne semble pas encore prêt à accepter ce genre d’image pleine d'un humour très machiste et totalement décalé. Tout cela est amplement suffisant pour poser ce vinyle sur la platine et se laisser emporter par ces huit morceaux d’un groupe oh ! combien inspiré. Les mélodies imparables de Loving You Sunday Morning ou de Lovedrive apportent la finesse nécessaire pour séduire tous les publics, mêlant douceur et rugosité, tandis que Another Piece Of Meat et Can’t Get Enough se veulent clairement et foncièrement Hard, directs et tranchants (pardon : « piquant » me semble, en l’occurrence, plus approprié.) SCORPIONS s’en est fait une spécialité – même si, en 1979, la réputation du groupe ne tourne pas qu’autour de ça – et offre deux sublimes ballades avec Always Somewhere et le très romantique Holiday. Deux ballades judicieusement placées, d’ailleurs : la première, presqu’à mi-parcours, résonne comme une série d’excuses et de justifications quant à l’absence due au métier choisi, tandis que la seconde, qui clôt l’album, est une invitation aux vacances, une invitation lancée à l’être aimé comme pour se faire pardonner les dites absences. Klaus MEINE maitrise parfaitement sa voix si particulière, et les musiciens semblent tous unis autour du guitariste Rudolf SCHENKER. SCORPIONS se laisse même © www.metal-integral.com 9/25/21, 7:49 AM tenter par l’exploration de nouvelle sonorités avec Is There Anybody There qui puise dans le Reggae du maitre Bob MARLEY. Une chanson dont les premiers mots sont explicites : « Ouvre mon esprit et laisse moi ressentir de nouvelles vibrations »… Enfin, SCORPIONS s’adonne également à l’autre exercice dans lequel il est passé maitre en proposant un efficace morceau instrumental (Coast To Coast). SCORPIONS, avec Lovedrive, parvient à recentrer sa musique autour d’un Hard Rock basique, mélodique et direct, s’éloignant des explorations parfois trop proches de l’esprit psychédéliques des compositions de son ancien guitariste. Si JABS n’est pas encore totalement intégré (Michael SCHENKER apporte une nouvelle fois sa touche inimitable en tenant la guitare lead sur Lovedrive, Another Piece Of Meat et Coast To Coast), il est en tous les cas sur la bonne voie. Les albums suivants le démontreront, tout autant que l’avenir, le guitariste étant, aujourd’hui encore, membre du groupe. Le résultat est sans appel : Lovedrive devient le premier album de SCORPIONS à entrer dans les charts anglais et dans le Billboard américain (respectivement aux 36ème et 55ème places). L'avenir confirmera la positions incontournable du groupe allemand, malgré l'apparition d'autres difficultés, écueils et défis d'envergure.
