PPE Requirements – Equine
At our BHS approved centre all riders have to wear correct PPE (Hats to current BHS standard PAS 015, body protector to Level 3 2009 standard, long sleeved top, breeches, hair tied up in a hairnet, leather boots or gaiters with a flat, smooth sole and a heel, gloves).
Level 2:
• Riding Hat - To the current safety standard PAS 015 with hairnet • Gloves- Dark coloured gloves must be worn whilst leading and riding • Footwear - Long riding or Jodhpur boots. Boots must be clean. (If chaps are worn, they must be black or brown) • Jodhpurs- Beige or fawn jodhpurs should be worn for assessments. Black or navy jodhpurs are permitted for day to day lessons • Whips - For flat lessons, a long whip should be carried, for jumping the whip must not exceed 75cm in length • Tops - Askham Bryan tops should be worn where possible; alternatively dark coloured sweatshirts worn with a polo shirt is acceptable. • Coats may be worn if riding outside but must be fastened and must be dark in colour and plain. • Body - Must be worn at all times when riding • Classroom - Pens, paper, lever arch folder
Level 2.5’s ONLY:
• PPE – Riding hat to current safety standards, riding gloves, yard/riding boots and suitable yard clothing will be required for the start of term. • No jewellery, other than a watch and wedding ring may be worn. No false nails. Long hair must be tied back. • A lever arch file and pens are required, plus a diary or an electronic diary system for general organisation. • Body protector will be required (for optional riding sessions) • If riding sessions are made available to students then a body protector will be mandatory; for ALL riding sessions: Students will be informed of this purchase requirement by their Level 2.5 course manager at the start of term.
Level 3:
• PPE – Riding hat and body protector to current safety standards, riding gloves, yard, and riding boots. • Yard clothing : uniform may be purchased – otherwise jodhpurs, polo shirts, sweatshirt and a jacket (no hoods) which should be black or navy, cream jodhpurs are required for assessments. • No jewellery, other than a watch and wedding ring may be worn. No false nails. Long hair must be tied back and in a hair net for riding • A large lever arch file, pens and paper are required, plus a diary or an electronic diary system for general organisation.
