Jodhpurs ( Riding Pants): These jods are the correct style of pant for riding saddle seat at Equitate. They are snug, cover the and the heel of the boot, have a bell-bottom, and have proper underpasses on them. It’s ok if they are long, we prefer long vs. short – just get a pair of cuff straps to keep them off the ground and clean. They have 2 buttons on each left for attaching underpasses (see below).

Most of our riders wear the Polyester Kentucky Jodhpurs. We encourage riders to get suede knee patches on these, which are very helpful when riding. These jods can be used both for practice and shows. Price ranges; $55 and up for kids and $85 and up for adults.

For riders in adult sizes, the Piper Breech by Smart Pak in the boot-cut style are excellent. They have “puffy paint” on the inside of the leg vs. suede which really help! SmartPak makes these, you will have to attach your own buttons and underpasses. Lucky Jods by Hartmeyer Saddlery are a very well-made brand in kids and adult sizes, along with the American Jodphur Company. These 2 brands are great for shows and work!

Practice jods can be of different colors and materials. Show Jods are a solid, neutral or traditional color such as black, navy, tan, brown, etc. Lighter colors allow better sight of the rider’s leg position.

Boots: Saddle seat riding uses paddock boots which are about ankle-height. We require the -on style of boot with elastic sides, NOT the zip-up or lace-up version. With slip-on boots, the rider can push their heel down easier and without the restraint of a firm zipper or laces.

We prefer Ovation Finalist Jod Boots in patent leather (shiny, for showing) or non-patent leather (not shiny). Kids sizes start at $79.95 and adults $84.95. Smoky Mountain is also a good brand and they run a little less. expenseive.
